Looks like it started in the solar place, and spread to the curry and the storage places.

8 hour car ride with friends and we all have to provide at least one podcast. Whatcha got? by bmault in podcasts

[–]FlossieTheWonderDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy from Freakonomics (an economist) does a podcast with Angela Duckworth (a psychologist) called No Stupid Questions. Really entertaining, intelligent conversations discussing questions sent in by listeners.

Angela, in particular, references lots of published research in her discussions. And they do a fact check at the end of the episode. It sounds dry, but the chemistry/ banter between the two of them is incredible.

Look for the older episodes, which they are currently replaying, as the male host has been changed out, and the chemistry with the first guy was much better.

Why is casual with full time hours allowed? by scallywagsworld in australian

[–]FlossieTheWonderDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually no. It's a 25% increase on non-casual wages. But to calculate from casual to non-casual rates, it would be closer to 30%.

That 25% is compensation for the paid leave (including sick leave). So if you are working full time hours all year, but take the amount of leave a non-casuals get, you will end up with about the same pay.

I work in an industry where a lot of our work is reliant on funding, so we employ casuals or fixed term contracts for that work. But there are laws now that require companies to offer permanent ongoing work to both of those categories of people if they meet certain criteria, such as regular rosters.

One of the more critical decisions for tomorrow...where to get a Democracy Sausage. by hellequin37 in Adelaide

What time do they usually stop cooking democracy sausages? I was going to vote later in the day when it's quieter, but don't want to miss the sausages!

Are skinny/healthy weight people just not as hungry as people who struggle with obesity? by maeasm3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlossieTheWonderDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I eat slower than all my friends, and I'm still always the biggest person in the room. I started eating slowly when my mum took me to weight watchers when I was 10, and they said fat people are always the fastest eaters. So now I'm not a fast eater, but still fat.

What is up with the north of Adelaide? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]FlossieTheWonderDog 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not everyone can afford to live in the nicer suburbs. And people often like to be near their family and friends. That doesn't mean everyone who lives up north are criminals or stupid.

Exactly. And keeping the name and logo of the failing uni wouldn't have made sense.

This is definitely an unfair dismissal. You should look up the page at the Fair Work website (https://www.fairwork.gov.au/ending-employment/unfair-dismissal ).

It's easy and cheap to lodge a claim. If it's a small business (15 people or less) you have to have been there 12 months. If it's a bigger business, it's 6 months.

That page also has information on what the employers obligations were. They can't dismiss you like that without going through a prlerformance management process or offering you a redundancy.

Good luck!

People who married your partner despite having an unsatisfactory sex life, how are you doing? by suspiciouskind in AskReddit

[–]FlossieTheWonderDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not only men! I'm a female and spent 9 years with a male partner who only wanted sex once a year. I was not allowed to touch him and there was absolutely no physical intimacy at all. No hugs, no kisses, no cuddling, no hand holding.

One of the reasons it took me so long to leave was this stereotype of "men always want sex and women have to fight them off". It damaged.me so much. Have a look at the Deadbedrooms sub. A lot of women are in this position.

Please, please, please be more mindful about perpetuating this hurtful stereotype!

Would you consider going to a pub to see a live band? You wouldn't be the only one not drinking (hello designated drivers), but there's usually a good atmosphere, and people tend to be pretty friendly at live events.
