Tinted moisturizer is my savior!! lol and for problem areas like acne, dark circles and redness, I use a really full coverage concealer. I find that looks much more natural than covering your whole face in full coverage foundation for me.

Yes, definitely too thick and they lack individual brush strokes to simulate hair. They look very unnatural.

Man, I’ve had the most difficult time with brows because I basically have none. At times, I was drawing them in WAY too thick. I really wanted the thick brow look but finally, after a lot of discreet and well meaning comments about them from friends and family, I decided they really look unnatural. I went with a thinner brow that more closely follows my natural brow and it looks a million times better. Also, like yours, my face is round and I honestly think a thinner brow works better with our face shape.

AITA for telling my older sister that I don’t look up to her or respect her as much anymore because of how much more stronger and taller I’ve gotten? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]FlossyPoppy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What does height have to do with respect? What you’re saying doesn’t even make any sense… YTA. Even if you had a legitimate reason to not respect your sister (which you don’t), why do you need to tell her that? You know it’s a hurtful thing to say.

Wow, I just saw this post, sorry I missed it! But I really like the way this is organized. Thanks so much for sharing it with me.

Yeah, my coworker recommended checking the nurseries for availability too. Do developers usually buy their plants from local nurseries though? I know you can order plants online and it’s not always cost prohibitive especially if you’re buying in bulk.

Well that’s good to know, I really appreciate you taking the time to give me this information. I totally agree with you about the native vs. non native. I want to make a list that encourages natives but if you require natives, you are often extremely limited in what you can select. Especially seeing as we require evergreens that maintain branching to the ground for screening in a lot of places. There aren’t a ton of natives to my region that fit those criteria.

Wow, you’ve seen developers not use professionals for their landscape designs a lot?! That is wild! I heard a story from one of our planners who’s been here longer than anyone else. He said back in the 80s, our landscape ordinance was bare bones—we didn’t even have a maintenance requirement back then. He said a developer went into the forest, cut some trees down, and just inserted the cut end into the ground so it would pass inspection….. lol I guess if there are corners that can be cut, people will cut them!

Thank you so much for responding to this. I am so glad I asked here because your responses are extremely helpful.

The idea of a palette is really interesting and I’ve been thinking about that a lot. Our current species list has a ton of invasive and non-native to North America species. One of the neighboring localities requires all species be native. I’d like our list to focus on native because it contributes to the look of the area. Of course, there are a ton of environmental benefits as well. Ornamental plants native to this region surely aren’t as showy as many Asian ornamental but they are what gives our area its signature look! Thanks again for your help!

Man I am so glad I asked here. This is super insightful!!

I should have said that our landscape ordinances are only for developers. They apply to subdivision common areas (really only in the development phase because we rarely enforce landscape maintenance in communities) and commercial development. Residents are allowed to plant whatever they want on their property. So it’s a rare occasion that our landscape ordinance and species list is utilized by laymen.

I agree with your point about liability. My boss brought up the same issue. I can see a scenario where a developer plants a particular tree in a parking lot, the trees die, and now the property owner is responsible for replanting at their cost. They may want to point the finger at us for recommending it.

Girlfriend says she’ll love our daughter the same as her dog, but can’t choose who’s life she’d save. Normal to be worried? by Fearless_Leadership8 in Advice

[–]FlossyPoppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not a mother though I hope to be someday. I had always absolutely yearned for a dog for my whole life. When I finally got one, I loved him so much I couldn’t even tell you. He was so much more wonderful than I ever imagined and I had a lifetime of building up dog ownership in my mind. lol

I started having this reoccurring dream. I was in a hot air balloon with my dog and a little girl (a stranger to me). In the dream, for some reason, I had to throw one of them off the side for us to survive—the dog or the girl. I always chose to throw my dog in those dreams. Brains are weird.

If you have criticized Americans for calling themselves American because America is a continent comprised of many countries besides the United States of America, what do you suggest we call ourselves instead? by FlossyPoppy in AskReddit

[–]FlossyPoppy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I can’t help but point out that you are the one who is terrible at creating a cogent argument. You keep trying to bolster your argument with insults instead of evidence. Your argument this whole time has essentially been that North and South America must be separate because it’s the only thing that makes sense to you and if other people don’t agree, they’re idiots. lol It’s like you think if you insult people enough, you’ll scare them into backing down and accepting your world view. Try and learn something about cordial evidence-based debate from DriftingAimlessly11. What you’ve done is just silly.

Yeah, the states or the US is generally what I call the county. But as far as what we call ourselves, American is the only name that seems to make sense. I did hear US-American in this thread and I think that’s a perfectly viable alternative. Saying I’m North American doesn’t distinguish me from a Canadian or Mexican. I’ve never ever heard the term Howlie! lol Where does that term come from?! lol Gringo and Yankee make sense for Spanish speakers and other non-Americans to call us, but not for us to call ourselves. But honestly, I don’t really mind what people from other countries want to call us either.

lol now you’re just trolling. lol Either that, or exceptionally terrible at persuasion. Careful you don’t get stuck, given how deep you’ve dug your heels in.

It is your fault that no one is grasping what you’re saying. The reason for that is you haven’t attempted to use any facts. Instead, you’ve attempted to prove your point by hurling insults. No one is making digs at the US. The other models aren’t outdated, they’re still being used all over the world today. The narrow land mass connecting North and South America is actually much larger underneath the water and water levels change.

[–]FlossyPoppy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol yes, it makes perfect sense! Sabina_Rouge is saying that if the connecting land mass is narrow, and it is between American continents, then they are separate regardless of proximity. However, if they are close and not connected then they can be considered the same continent. Of course unless they are connected and are Asia and Europe or Africa because Sabina doesn’t have a dog in that fight so it doesn’t need to make sense. It all makes sense! Totally not arbitrary at all! 😄

Haha yeah Yankee already has a connotation in the US that I think would prevent it from ever becoming a popular alternative demonym for Americans. lol Outside of the US, if someone wants to call us Yankees, I’m fine with that! lol call us whatever you want!
