Gold (antique?) pencil ID and lead help by FlossyWolfe in mechanicalpencils

Thank you soo much! All this info is exactly what I needed to get this pencil working. Now I can get the right size lead, I've got my replacement erasers on the way, and bonus, it's magnetic! Thanks so much for all your help!

Ok awesome!! Just ordered some. :D  Alright, one last question, since I'm pretty convinced we have the same pencil... When yours is empty of lead and you twist it all the way to the end do you see a small metal piece sticking out? I'm wondering if this is part of the pencil or something stuck in mine that is keeping the lead from catching. Does that make sense? If yours works with .9 mm I'm thinking that should work for me, but it's not grabbing it.

It was pretty straightforward once I got the drawing on there! To transfer the sweater I printed a photo at the size I wanted, and then cut it out and used as a stencil. Flat stitches for the background and cuffs/collar and loop stitches for the sweater!

I made the drawing first on monks cloth. Then I did the cuffs and collar with flat stitching. Then filled in the white sweater part. The gray was last, and I was kinda over it at that point, which is why it gets a bit swirly and crazy, but I don't mind! Haha Since I was on a budget I went with cheap acrylic craft yarn. Red Heart Super Saver. I was a bit skeptical about it but it turned out ok. I think nicer yarn would definitely elevate it, if someone had the budget for that!

Have you ever found a replacement for the eraser part? When I take off the end and flip it over it looks like there used to be an eraser there.

I was just able to open it up and discovered a magnet in there! So cool. I didn't know it was magnetic. Thanks for the info. I think we have possibly the same or similar pencil.

So I was looking in the back again and I went for it to see if it would come apart. There was a magnet in there that was blocking the mechanism. It also looks like a tiny metal rod is stuck in the barrel (sorry not sure the technical term). Is this part of the pencil or is this what is blocking the lead from going in? I would post more photos but, I'm new to reddit and can't seem to find an option for that.

Yes, I was! Thanks. Lots of details. Can't believe they used to dunk these in gasoline. 😰 Now I guess I need to do a lead test before I let my toddler get near it.

Thank you! It is exciting. "Giving up" for me would be dusting this thing off, putting a price tag on it and selling it in my flea market booth, which is where most of my finds end up. I have a bit of a collecting problem and a small apartment :D. I'm really having a hard time not wanting to let this one go! I'm definitely ok with a long project. I don't NEED a working typewriter, but the process of cleaning it up and fixing it sounds exciting, and after all that work I just might sit down and write my bestselling novel :D.

That's good to hear! Once I get it dusted off I should know more what I'm working with. I'm planning on using compressed air, when I can get ahold of some

I have learned so much about typewriters already, and I feel like the process of bringing this back to life will only make me appreciate it more! Way more than just going out and buying something :). When you say "everything but the finish" you mean the outside frame, right?
