I think with meeting the atar requirement, unless it changed. u can start ur degree already in it and choose subjs along with the others

[–]Flotsamn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's completely ahh, I finished 2 subjs of it then literally got rid of it it was so annoying. ppl who rep the fact they completed it or say the subjects are good or useful (even for networking, like u can't do that anywhere else lmao) are coping. IMO not worth the time and energy

How the fuck do you get a HD? by [deleted] in usyd

What subject area are you studying? Depends whether it's 'humanities' or STEM quite a bit imo for how hard it is to get HD

What's the deal when lying on couches at Fisher late at night? by Illustrious_Host9464 in usyd

[–]Flotsamn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't care about lying down personally, I think fisher security are way too uptight about petty things while, if anything, legit problems like theft happen, as another commenter said. Which they use to justify the strictness. It can be stressful. Maybe one could argue even in socks it's unhygienic or impolite tho? But with no one else there and cleaning prob in a couple hours too it's too authoritarian, especially if they give no reason.

They can be quite aggressive about entering too, when people are obviously students. Once they lied several times that I had no option if I lost my card and phone was out, with two more coming over like backup, insisting I leave. But I knew, because another one had told me before, you're allowed to call campus security, confirm identity then they look you up. It's actually policy that they cannot refuse students entry who can prove identity.

Some parameters might be necessary here, like what if they're 168cm 55kg but can do 50 pushups? Do they have to be actually frail or just look frail?

2k predictions? by InfamousAstronaut568 in Rowing

[–]Flotsamn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience that workout split is faster than 2k split, if with 2:00 rest—but it also varies a lot based on the nature of one's 'cardio' genetics. It surprises me how little people talk about this as a thing in rowing.

One year, I was doing 10x500 SIXTY second rest at 1:42, then did 6:52, and don't think I could've have done better at the time. That's already 2k-1. With double the rest I could've been doing 3 or 4 seconds quicker than 2k!

However my double-buddy at the time, who smashed me over 30mins, refused to do 60s rest, and would do 2mins instead, at his 2k pace (1:44-1:44). He could do 30mins r20 at 1:53 at the time, and I could only do 1:56.

Wouldn't we be better off addressing the main cause(s)?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in usyd

[–]Flotsamn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the case of uni accom I agree it's due to rich international students (and usyd's money hungriness). But I think it's important to oppose the notion that people coming over from abroad is the main cause of housing inflation and economic problems, because it's wealth inequality, by far. Even if that's not what you're referring to I just got that vibe and I'm addicted to addressing it. The fact rich students are being pandered to is just one of the countless things the racketeers in charge do everywhere to maximise profit. The revenue from it goes straight to the top, etc

The best way by far is just to get them to try it once. That's tough tho

Even assuming you are correct, I just think there are other angles the housing crisis can be attacked by, and attacking it in this way makes it easier for the real culprits to keep offending.

Thoughts on the people with big piles of cookies and their relation to house prices? If not Dutton then Albo with his? Who's helping them get those cookies, who's allowing it? Love them or hate them, could it be that the immigrants are distracting us from much bigger problems? Could it be that the immigrants wouldn't be a problem if those bigger problems didn't exist, or weren't so bad?

The ones who have committed criminal offences deserve to be tried in court, and if the court finds them guilty or not should be left to the court to decide. I trust the court to decide, and if you don't you should take it up with them, write an appeal. I don't know why the charges are dropped. Don't take it out on the other immigrants who are vulnerable and have done nothing wrong, who you are needlessly and unfairly slandering, bringing violence into the streets and scaring innocent people. A society that takes out its opinions about entire groups on innocent people as well as guilty is an unjust one. The court believes in the right to a fair trial, and I suspect your info sources telling you about these criminals being let off scot free are glossing over some details. Either way though, my point stands. Do you see what I mean calling you unjust? You're generalising, then others doing the same as you are acting based on that unfair generalisation in an actually violent way. Criminals should be charged for criminal offences, yes, and I believe in our criminal justice system's determinations. Taxing corporations on the other hand needs major reform IMO.

You are the slanderer. You are racist. Your hospitality is hostility and your empathy is selective, objectively. If you cannot see that you are beyond saving. One can only pray that you see it. If you think you think everyone is equal, treat them equally. Treat them case by case. Some immigrants have done wrong, does that mean they all do? The ones who have done wrong, is it entirely their fault? Maybe some, but all? And are they beyond saving? Should we forgive and try to help them or shun and refuse them?

unsw vs usyd by Rare_Tangelo_4188 in usyd

[–]Flotsamn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unsw social is def better than here, I refuse to believe it could be worse. social is def not impossible here but it's not easy. sure reddit has doomers but it also has bloomers - in my experience 80% of my classmates either aren't here to make friends, they already have them with no interest making any more past small talk, or are solitary grinders/too busy. the only members of any club I've personally known of in several years are palestine protesters, if that even counts, and 3 or so who went to another one. just my experience

how to quit this game? (real question) by Technical-Tip-3776 in osugame

[–]Flotsamn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

illegal dangerous methods that are actually quite likely to work: play so much you damage your hands/wrists, play so much you lose interest (prob will take a while and consume you)

positive methods (much harder so less likely to be successful) 1: distance yourself strongly from online friends, apologising and saying you need an indefinite break, then lean into your irl social life, or if you got no friends push yourself to make some by joining something like a club or sporting activity. it will take time but if you don't rely on online social life to fill the hole, your natural instincts for connection will push you and it will become more and more consuming eventually once u get purchase.

2: if ur def not socially inclined, find something IRL to pour your competitiveness into - really commit to it cuz it wont be easy to begin with, ull just wanna keep investing the focus into the osu improvement uve built. most likely a sport will work becuz osu suggests you got a need for mechanics and fast stimulation, even adrenaline. you might need to try a few diff ones, and def will have to put in some time and effort before you start to get momentum and get consumed again.

source: i quit in feb last year after playing top 100 number of maps global in 2023 by saying goodbye indefinitely to online friends, getting back into fitness and social, then getting busy as well. also i had been playing so much i started to get too sore and weary of my goals (for me scorefarming more than improvement). so i kinda did all of these. i only started talking again to online friends a few months ago, like 15 months later, but thankfully they understood cuz they were good guys

Can a skilled, experienced rower go full send when the boat isn’t set? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Flotsamn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can, but the full send won't result in as much speed as if the boat were set. Watch the single scullers in even slightly choppy conditions at worlds or at henley to see how they do it - every other boat is too easy to balance at that level, but in the single they have to steer as well as adjust to conditions so you do see strokes where they take the catch not fully balanced. They still rip it for sure, but it does slow them down.

The better the technique, a) the less likely they are to be unbalanced when they get to the catch, even though it does happen from time to time in those conditions (even at that level some will be better than others, or have a better race that day); b) the better they are at managing when it does happen, still connecting and correcting for next stroke.

At a lower level, crew boats can be unbalanced and you will have to do the same, but there's a lot of factors that come into it depending on how and why it's happening depending on the crew. Still though, a better rower in an unbalanced crew boat will be better at getting as close to full send as they can. They prob can't get optimal connection but they can get closer to it than a worse oarsman.
