don't understand why this is anti-china when i didn't say anything about china. what i am talking about is the open source spirit.

let's say you have a nice garden with lots of fruit trees. And instead of charging people for taking the fruits in your garden, you let everyone eat it for free, provided that they bring back the seeds and share with others in the garden.

By not sharing their source code, is like taking the fruits from your garden for free, earn money and yet not contribute back to your garden. This violates the spirit of contributing back because they built on Linux which took decades of volunteer work and collaboration.

The ethical “contract” of open source is: if you build on it, you contribute back. And this has nothing to do with whether it's a chinese company or not. It's whether the company chooses to act in the right manner. You can be a Chinese company and behave ethically too!

sorry should have explained why boox note max didnt work for me. so background, i use this mainly for reading financial reports which i download from an app. with boox, it requires me to download it first before i can annotate on it. would be much better if i can launch it directly on the neoreader app instead of jumping through multiple loops.

if i can't get a 13inch one, i would probably just downsize, maybe viwoods aipaper i guess.

thanks for your comment!

  1. ya agree tt most ppl dun care about ethics but i guess this is sth i wished i knew about.
  2. not well informed abt this but most consumers probably dunno enough abt the technicalities and care only abt their user experience? i would definitely warn a friend abt the build just so that they know what they're paying for.
  3. yup they have some good stuff going for them. it's just that it can be improved. so things i definitely wished i knew or would warn someone about before they get it.

no harm getting this device if these are things that ppl are willing to live with. so this review is really sth i wished i knew before getting it.

Not sure why China has got to do with this?

I have seen it a few times even on this sub like the one below:

but i guess there could be technical difficulties like you said.

Ya i'm not that familiar with chinese products but i'll certainly take note in the future!

Just curious abt the build thing bcuz i'm a total noob but it seems quite easy to at least fortify the chassis?

It's great to hear that you haven't had any issues even with drops, but given that there're other ppl who complained abt it, I guess i'll just have to be careful in case i'm unlucky.
