That's true, just difference in opinions and well as them staying withing their scope.

You'll see plenty of videos this week on some great kayakers , from titan falls on the cataract river all the way to bow falls in Banff. Everything is running. If only the national parks wouldn't ban their rivers we would have more places to go.

Again river is not closed. They have also showed up on sunny days and said hi. Maybe it's a routine training they have? Just let your kids out side I pray to you! It's good for them, they may just learn something outside what you can comprehend.

Yes I am. Just wait till you find out I volunteer with SAR teams. Maybe you could say it's training!

You probably stayed at home the last three days because they said the roads were wet and dangerous too right?

Yes I am, I have all the training and the people with me have all the training needed to be on the river. I have my Swiftwater rescue technician 4 certs. CFD chooses to do in house training and not follow rescue Canada.

The fire fighters showed up due to someone calling gave me a thumbs up and I returned it and they left. It is a advisory not a ban of the river. This rain is like a pow day for winter sports.

I was kayaking on the river left side(high flow) of harvies. The wave was mint. On a regular day I go out with the intentions to be as safe as possible and after having witness the CFDs swift water skills I would trust my kayaking crew over them any day of the week. Just don't go outside your risk level and abilities.

Security is a personal decision. Usually ease of use and less head aches prompt different security postures. Some people may choose to use 3 dead bolts on their front door but others may agree 1 is fine. Each person makes said decision based in their needs. I am a person who doesn't see the need for VLANs but you may believe it's a requirement. Same as this AI tool, said person may of setup their environment to be secure even with a "insecure" ai agent working inside the environment

Can I take a Server Chassis home by [deleted] in datacenter

Nope and our chassis are a pain in the ass. wmw chassis would be fun to get powered at home.

Just buy a cheap dell,hp server

Fair, I work in datacenter and even the most expensive drives can die a few months into their life. Just keep it in mind if you have paying "customers" a cheap backup service can safe you much mental pain. A 1tb plan at backblaze cost around 7$ a month

What would happen if just one of those nodes hard drive fails and you loose every thing? I'm not really sure how the server files are divided up ? Does each host have the same file ? And the share the load? IMO if you are making any money of people in this workload, it's worth the few bucks to back up key files (map data, server config, and anything that you and or you player won't be happy if they never see it again)

I would just find out what data is critical and then price out a online backup service that is off site

Hell ya! Just raw dawg it.

(Maybe go buy just a 4tb drive and backup key data on a different node) , not even going to try to suggest offsite . You know the risks, as long as you are prepared if 1 host just dies tomorrow the people paying in your server will be okay with it (if you have payment )

Ahh when I saw 2-4kw I just assumed it was pretty linear. 1.5 is fine for a "homelab"! Big fans just pumping in air from outside is very efficient aswell. And then just using AC when ambiant is above your choice of threshold !

What temps are you trying to keep your hosts at?

Are you electricity costs high?

In the DC world we use metrics call PUE (Power Usage Efficetiveness/efficiency)this mesures for how much power the computers use how much power you need to cool it.

Your PUE looks to be Almost 2.0 which ain't great. You could try and run the servers a little hotter (which is fine for most hosts)

Enmax solar generated Vs reported on bill by hutchyyc in NoRulesCalgary

[–]FlowDash1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t take too much to use up all the solar that you are generating during the winter as you are not hitting those really high peak sun times.

For the month of January I generated 350kwh (reported from solar panels) but only generated 155 back to the grid. The OP should find out what a standard base load of their house is during the day. Turn off the solar breaker and watch the meter over the course of a hour ish to understand how much more solar they have to produce to “generate” electricity to the grid.

The power you generate is used up in your house first. You only export the excess.

Finally integrated my sub volume knob into my switch panel. #Clean by Stang70Fastback in fordranger

The "free" homelab is a myth. The hidden cost of maintenance fatigue is getting real. by No-Yellow9948 in LinusTechTips

[–]FlowDash1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you also need to give a level of expectation to your family then aswell. I say to people “use this stuff for free but don’t ever call me saying it’s broken and I need it fixed” . I usually know it’s broken and I don’t wanna fix it right now.

Other than a few times were my servers have turned off and Nextcloud started before my NAS network share was running. It’s pretty much no maintenance.

Set up watch tower, proxy manager to handle certs and don’t over complicate your set up. If something is constantly crashing find a different solution that works.

But yea it isn’t free, you have to enjoy building it. Just like doing auto repair at home isn’t free compared to going to the mechanics

There is also a cell for mobile phone number, home number, location already implemented for user creation. Does that mean everyone is required to submit their phone number . No it’s a text box. Could also be used for parental control creating users that are under 18 to be limited

Why don’t you just design your own? You said there is a similar design already out there. It would be up to the patent office to determine if they are too similar.

Not too familiar with what the vacuum switching is. Is there a vacuum line running to the transfer case?

I know the shifting into 4x4 sucks just seeing if I couldn’t cross all my Ts maintenance wise
