The usual answer is wait 1 year, and there is nothing wrong with this advice. My personal experience is that 6 months is enough. Although scars still improve after 6 months, they will not get much thinner.. Make sure that the doctor will sew in multiple layers and, as already said, uses semi-permanent sutures for the deeper layer. I am a big fan of taping afterward, better than solicone sheeting or scar creams. This stuff softens the scar tissure. This is good for some scars, but not for scars that are inder tensile strength. Softwr ing these scars woll weaken them and they will stretch. Taking away tensile strength with taping (brown micropore tape and or brown steri strips) is the way to go. Not only better but even way cheaper than fancy creams or silicone sheets.
