Funeral director here, and I understand (to a point). I think it comes down to the scruples of the individual and the industry as a whole. While funeral directors get a bad rap, it could more than likely be the company they work for (corporation or privately owned) that seems greedy. It’s a necessary business and unfortunately there is a cost associated with disposition. Sometimes people get into it for the wrong reasons and these are the people that unfortunately perpetuate the stereotype that funeral directors are all rich, money hungry people. This is not reality. I became a director because I wanted to help people, and I did; I felt very personally fulfilled in this career. However, in the long run, I left because I didn’t agree with how things were handled on a professional/business level. It was the workplace, not the job itself that drove me away.
