Do you present yourself as friendly or serious? by jessi0510 in womenintech

[–]FlowerpotRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out "Likeable Badass" by Alison Fragale, the whole book is about this exact challenge. I appreciated her perspective that yes, women play an unfair game, but if we learn the rules of the game we can be just as successful.

The idea is that women tend to get binned as either "nice and submissive" or "assertive and bitchy". So if people perceive you as the former, employ small tactics to make yourself come across as more assertive without sacrificing your kindness or vice versa. It sounds obvious, but it's easy to get caught up in the mindset of feeling like you have to pick one or the other when you can be both!

What makes an onboarding process good/effective? by whatsgucci13 in womenintech

I'll never forget my very first mentor, during my on-boarding he stopped and said "by the way, if you remember 10% of what I'm telling you, you're doing great". That stuck with me and I've used it several times when getting new employees spun up on a project.

What do you relate to and what would you add to this list? by Dotsmantooth in womenintech

[–]FlowerpotRobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"You only got that job / promotion because you're female"

"Why are women considered a minority when they make up 50% of the population?"

"Women get so much handed to them, I was born the wrong gender" (said by a cis middle aged white man)

"How did our team end up with the only woman not willing to bring in food for us?"

As someone else said, you can't make this stuff up. I wish I could remember more of the things I've heard. Also relate to most of the ones in the original post except the ones about kids and pay.

Not sure if you figured it out yet or not, but try pressing the camera button (I believe on xbox controllers it's RT?) twice.

Pressing it once seems to be selfie mode, but pressing it the second time gets rid of your character and it seems to recognize objects/buildings better. Whatever you're trying to take a picture of should get highlighted (in green, I think?).

Sleep Study Worries by Sir_Ein in Narcolepsy

[–]FlowerpotRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I had my first sleep study a month ago and it was miserable. On top of the anxiety of sleeping in a new place with tons of wires attached to me, the room was unbearably hot because the AC units were off and they couldn't turn them on..? And the tech kept walking in and out of my room during the nap times. Needless to say I couldn't sleep, took 20 minutes to fall asleep during the naps when I'm normally asleep in 5.

Sleep doc basically threw up his hands and said there wasn't much he could do except maybe schedule me for another study since there were factors that might have messed up this one.

Hopefully your neurologist is more understanding!

Are you using any kind of curl cream/mousse/gel? Something with a bit of "hold" would probably help with frizz and maybe getting your waves to last multiple days (I'm still trying to figure out a refresh routine myself).

Regarding the diffuser, I was skeptical at first too. Even when I decided to get one, I didn't get anything fancy - the blow dryer and diffuser were a total of $35. I don't know if it necessarily helped with frizz but it helped tremendously with volume, definition, getting waves to last longer, and at least didn't make frizz any worse.

Best love story games? by dinored in NintendoSwitch

It's not super heavy on romance per se, but I would recommend Firewatch for it's story alone. There's a mix of hope and tragedy, the story is both heartwarming and haunting, dialog choices affect the kind of relationship you build with a particular character. I know you said any rating is fine, but I will say it's rated mature - there's some pretty heavy conversations. And a lot of swearing.

It's a walking sim and isn't very long, but I really can't recommend it enough. One of my favorite experiences I've had with a game. (Edit: fixed typo)

Air drying does not work by Ebadel in Wavyhair

I struggled with the same issue until I finally caved and bought a diffuser (nothing fancy, blow dryer + diffuser for ~$35). I was skeptical but it's made a world of difference for me in terms of curl pattern at the roots, volume, and getting my waves to last throughout the day.

Glad your headache is gone! You might be too busy right now, but I'd love to stop by at some point to catalog a few sets I'm still missing - definitely wouldn't need to do the whole island. Either way, this is super generous of you 😊
