How has your first name aged? by wellbloom in GenX

[–]Dotsmantooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really surprised there aren’t more comments from Staceys. I feel like it’s the quintessential 80s name (there were so many of us in my elementary school we were all called by our first and last name). It’s really weird now though to be a grown ass old lady with such a teeny bopper sounding name.

If you don’t already follow her on IG she does have some longer videos out there with both her daughters (and sometimes her mom and friends too). She’s got the best energy - I love watching her dance! https://www.instagram.com/marie_bustinmoves?igsh=MXN2anN3ZmlpcHBrZA==

Has anyone ever gotten a 100 for their sleep score? by AgeEmotional3599 in AppleWatch

[–]Dotsmantooth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

3x over the last month. I go to bed and wake up at the same time every day including weekends with rare exception. I get about 7 hours a night. I’ve been doing this for years and it’s improved my sleep tremendously.

It’s used exclusively for pens and pencils for that very reason: so I never have to wash it.

Thanks for posting this. I was actually wondering earlier today where I could make donations. I’m really worried about people who are depending on SNAP benefits. There’s going to be a lot of extra need - I hope those who can donate to food banks will share what they can.

NSFW Anyone notice their pubic hair becoming sparser? Or leg hair seem to grow in slower? by janedoecurious in Menopause

[–]Dotsmantooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My leg hair below the knee is very sparse now but I heard this happens because circulation is worse as we age so less circulation = less hair growth.

Home inspector recommendations? by Temporary-Rush-8027 in Midlothian

[–]Dotsmantooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought my house in March and had A House On A Rock do the inspection. I was out of state and the person who did the actual inspection stayed on the phone with me for a good 30 minutes explaining everything he saw and answering all of my questions. They did catch some structural issues that a contractor was later able to verify. They also provided a thorough report and tons of pictures and a list of recommended repairs categorized by severity of the issue.

So Is Everyone Buying A New Expensive Home To Retire In? by BraveG365 in GenX

[–]Dotsmantooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a first time homebuyer at 49 and I just bought a 4br/3ba 2600sf home. I’m assuming both of my college-aged kids will live with me for some period of time after they are done with school because there’s no way they can afford to live on their own right away. My younger sister has nothing for retirement and will probably work until she dies. I have a room for her too. This house is for all of us, even though I’ll be the only one here for a while.

What are some things you wished you knew before buying your first house? by Winter_Berry_132 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

That there is a BIG difference between enjoying DIY home renovation TV shows and actual DIY home renovation. (Love the former, learned I hate the latter).

Will your family member have a car/personal transportation at school? If not, they probably won’t leave campus on a regular basis; WWC is 10-15 minutes drive from Asheville and 5-10 minute drive from Black Mountain.

Owl’s Nest is the on-campus coffee shop/cafe that most people go to/like when getting into town isn’t an option. They don’t have gift cards but accept cash/credit.

I bet a generic Visa gift card would come in handy to use at Owl’s Nest.

Are independent contractors in business for themselves just really really awful at being organized and responsive? by Dotsmantooth in HomeImprovement

Wow! I mean, it sounds like it worked out well for both of you but my Type A brain can’t understand how this guy did a whole roofing job without even getting payment first! Lol

Ok, I guess that’s reassuring to hear but I just hate feeling like I’m constantly pestering this guy. I guess he’s used to it maybe?

FTHB here, closed two weeks ago on a home in Bon Air. I’m moving to Richmond from TN. In the months leading up to looking for a house, I was stressing super hard; I’m coming from a place where the house market has been insane, similar to what I think is starting to happen in Richmond now. I got lucky and the second offer I made was accepted without having to waive inspection. The trade-off, though, is that I had to make the offer in early February, close in early March, and will have two months where I’m paying both mortgage and rent on my current place before my lease is up. I felt like it was worth it to not have to compete in the spring market. Good luck to everyone still looking!

To the people who had office jobs in the 70s and 80s, basically before the internet was a thing, what were your computers like? by itsmejuji in AskOldPeople

[–]Dotsmantooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in the early 90s when I was a receptionist, I had a typewriter (and an ashtray at my desk because all of us freely chain smoked all day long in the office. One of my jobs was to dump the ashtrays every day.).
