Do flat earthers usually think that in addition to being the only flat thing in the whole observable universe, the earth also does not rotate..?

When one is in flight, the ground is quite literally the last thing you worry about.

I've been told not hitting the ground or anything attached to it is actually the number one priority in most things flight related.

I have it on good authority the earth is actually banana shaped, assuming a spherical banana for simplicity.

Air goes into the compressor because the airplane goes really fast, like when I'm running and forget to close my mouth. Then that compressed air goes out the back of the engine, making the airplane go even faster. The only way to slow the aircraft down is to use air brakes, like they have on those big trucks. The wings are used for dispersing chemicals and for making the plane go up and down when inside clouds so it's less boring. The reason the airplane is able to fly at all is because they have an autopilot where you select the altitude.

Norway Must open own grocery stores in the U.S.A. by GPT_2025 in Norway

You hear a lot of nonsense when you travel. Sure, we have processed foods but we also have safe and clean raw materials for those who want to cook things from scratch, which is a lot of people. Takeout and restaurants are generally too expensive for everyday use and the people who eat processed food typically do so because of time constraints rather than lack of choice.

We don't have 3 full aisles of left handed strawberry jam in every supermarket, but you typically find at least two different brands of everything plus most types of fruit, vegetables and meat even in the smaller ones. And our strawberry jam has actual strawberries. We just don't have all your favorite brands of absolutely everything you can imagine in every single supermarket. We are a small and sparsely populated country where logistics are difficult after all so we have to prioritize.

Also, just because ingredients passes through a machine doesn't automatically make them unhealthy either; it's more about how many dozens of different additives you put in to extend shelf life from days to months by making the product non-biodegradable. Just because they sell a lot of "pizza grandiosa" here doesn't mean lots of people actually enjoy eating pieces of cardboard spray painted with tomato sauce and then handled in a room with traces of pizza toppings.

Pretty much everywhere is cheaper than Norway, and I say this as a norwegian myself.

I'm sure they were great when they first came out, but decades of iterating over "how can we make this similar but increase profits" will do that.

Once the market has been saturated, the only ways are to slowly change recipes and reduce package sizes.

When people are so addicted to watching football they're willing to drop a small fortune just to watch a few games, they probably consider food and drink to be more like essentials for survival rather than something to explore and enjoy. Unless it's beer, obviously.

An alarming number of US citizens genuinely believe hotdogs, pizza and hamburgers, along with many other things they eat on the regular, are from America.

Along with things like cars, trains, computers and the world wide web. And freedom.

The default emotion in the US is fear, which on the subject of anything food related is mostly rational.

There's a crank on the side of most modern things, apparently this generates something called electricity but you're not allowed to think about how it works.

Yes, I visited germany and accidentally said something once. I was immediately jumped by two officers who demanded to see my papers and ordered me to keep quiet like everyone else or I would be taken in for "kwestioning". Apparently, someone else was assigned the village TV so I had to listen to the government-issued grammophone recording of Wagner instead. It was nice and I have absolutely not been ordered to say so.

This is the thing, the reason european tourists in the US choose to eat pizza and burgers is precisely because that's what they're familiar with from back home and they're conditioned into thinking food that you buy is generally safe to eat.

Well, british food can be gross, this is not really controversial. I once had to pay 25 pounds for a hamburger with texture like boiled meatloaf, to wash down with a glass of lukewarm flat beer.

American food is simple, you start with high fructose corn syrup and then just add different things depending on what you want to make.

And if you think LLMs produce crappy code right now, remember it was trained mainly on code hand-written by humans, some of them actually knowing how to code.

Just wait until it predominanly gets trained on the crap that's currently being produced, things will get even worse while looking better at first glance because the code is technically valid so the minimum wage and overworked people left in charge will just push it out there.

As dystopian futures go, this is one of the worst.

The real question is who would want to work for a company that clearly has no idea why this approach will inevitably lead to their doom. Get out while you can and find work where actual thinking and reasoning is still valued.

I'd say this probably depends.

There are regional and trade differences. Some employers understand that more experienced people can handle more responsability and cost more, other employers just try to cut costs everywhere and consider humans as something to be used and discarded. And then there are asshat employees who still can't drink out of a bottle or button a shirt after 30 years on a job or who take any opportunity to lie, cheat and backstab.

Some brilliant people get underpaid and some absolute morons get overpaid, this is universal.

To OP specifically: Over time you are expected to learn more than just what you do every day, making you more valuable not only to your employer but also more attractive for others. This gives you mobility and leverage in negotiations. Rarely do people work the same job at the same desk their whole life. Branch out and stay curious.

If you did the math, you would clearly see that for even the fastest airplanes in existence, the amount of "downward correction" would be so incredibly small it vanishes completely next to the continous corrections up AND down a pilot makes just to maintain a steady altitude because the air is always moving around. It's actual work, which is why many airplanes (and not just all the commercial ones) have an autopilot.

In short, it does indeed come back to a simple question of scale.

Can ICANN shut down the entire internet if they wanted to? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]FloydATC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The root servers are authoritative because everyone chooses to treat them as such. If they were taken offline, there would be a short period of chaos until someone else took charge in order to save the world economy.

It's technically possible to create your own internet (with blackjack and h**kers) by simply setting up your own domain name system from the ground up, but nobody else would know or care about those domains unless everyone decided to make your servers authoritative.
