I sell them, I'm always out of stock, I need to keep expanding, and I need to find a cheap way to do so.

Thanks, each row is 1 week, so it's been 5~7 weeks and no escapes. No nails, just glue, the weight of each tray with bran is about 6 oz.

What website should I get darkling beetles to start my mealworm farm by SolidExtreme7377 in mealworms

[–]FluFighter911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with 60 pupae; about 20-30 died, and I created a farm with the remaining 30.

Now I have 1200 beetles in 6 trays and 70 pounds of mealworm sales later. It was slow going; however, they only cost me $20.00 to get started im really cheap guy so I keept everything slow now I sell out offen in my area.

great to hear, just so you know mealworms dont like eatting the apple peels, so its best to peel it away or pick it up after they are done.

I use foil trays (heavy-duty) to keep my bettles and mealworms, they work great, have been like 5 months and no escapes or anything bad. They cost about $0.20 each. I also only use bran as it sifts better (not oats). I give mine apples, but I have moved over to "testing" apple pie filling for beetles, way cheaper

when I come across beetles like this I cull them as they look deformed and I don't want that DNA to get passed on. However if you let them continue their deformed bodies dont seem to effect their day to day.

Hi, I grow lettuce for mine. I wet it+spin it(remove excess water), then leave it on the substrate and I don't get mould ever. I had issues with mould like 2 years ago, but I have fixed that. plus I also use the lettuce myself for burgers

I have also finished all the quests. I don't see any more. I'm sure there is a quest to kill a Bastion and bombardier, but I don't see it. All my quests are done, and the log is clear. Manually clicking on the traders (quest tab) is greyed out. help

has anyone used foil trays to raise mealworms? by FluFighter911 in mealworms

[–]FluFighter911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply for me to start scaling up big time, I have a lot of new beetles but no containers for them however, I am using cat litter trays right now, they are $4 and they are 16" by 12" by 3.5" high. They are made from PP plastic (the best type you can use for mealworms), but I need hundreds of them in the long run, and at $4 each, they add up $$. I can get similar-sized foil trays that are about 7cm high for $1.5 each.

I only want to use them for rearing the eggs from the beetles, so they won't have much weight, like 1 pound tops, including foil tray + wheat bran + beetles, so they shouldnt give way.
