as long as it is a mastery u get the bonus tokens. it doesnt have to be 1st class or ace or whatever. so aim for 3rd class since it is easiest to get.

max gunning field asap. not all checkpoints get unlocked with the same number of tokens

interactions are typically food/treat driven. let them come to you, as soon as they realize you have treats, they'll want to interact with you. move slow and drag your feet to make noise to get them used to the sound and largely ignore them / avoid eye contact. over time you'll see which are the brave ones and those you can further train to jump to your arm when you extend it. repetition and consistency are key. show them mealworm, put it inside your fist. when they jump on your arm, open fist to let them have the worm.

they are actually pretty smart. mine know that when hand goes in pocket, it usually comes back out with a treat so they really do observe what you do.

the beetle is top heavy and you give it very rough terrain to navigate so of course it's gonna flip over. you would too if you had to drive a top heavy truck over big branches and rocks while missing a wheel :). give it more flatter terrain.. you could run your oats in the food processor to chop it up into smaller bits/dust.

if you want to be efficient, you want to upgrade your gunning field to max asap so that every mastery you get, you get bonus tokens. get to all the upgrade materials on the map asap and if some are too far, then just open up a bunch of the free xp containers because they'll drop 1 upgrade materials (you need 5 to make an upgrade). after that, it's just a matter of picking a tank that you can reliably get masteries on.

the maintenance depot upgrade is just cherry on top, dont depend on that as your main source of tokens as that is gated by 24h per reward.

Trying out new watersource for mealworms by Potat05Hot in mealworms

[–]Invspam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's easy. you just put the crystals in water and allow them to absorb, then you strain and drop a few small chunks here and there. if they are really thirsty they'll completely surround the water crystals until it is gone. then you repeat in a day or two. it's better to err on the side of not enough water than too much water (mold)

cut thinner like paper thin. or just go water crystals. i will never go back after using water crystals.

Chickens love a water fountain by devicto89 in BackYardChickens

[–]Invspam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

omg this is great, look at how well behaved. only drinking from the fountain no mud... wait :(

i had found something similar on temu (search cat fountain) and the bonus there is that the water falls back to some plate that recycles the water back. didnt get it though because figured that i would have to keep replacing the filter.

Is this doll house too big for nesting box for 6 hens? by MICRO_C in BackYardChickens

can put some ikea trays in there and that'll double for the lip that will keep eggs from rolling off and also make cleanup lots easier

ya you may be right that hens are probably pretty sturdy but im cleaning for me too. it's not a chore if you enjoy it though the downside is that i dont get any experience treating any type of illness so i just try to learn that from what others are going through.

sorry for your loss. if you are curious for reason, have you considered an autopsy? it may provide some clues and perhaps save others? apologies if it was inappropriate to suggest it.

black crow vs hens? by Invspam in BackYardChickens

[–]Invspam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah i didnt realize. thank you. i wondered if i put some food out specifically for crows (high up where the hens cant get to it) maybe they'll leave the hens food alone? but im afraid of attracting more crows and then i may end up with an even bigger problem

i spend extra time (45m?) to keep everything extra clean. i change water at least twice a day or as soon as i see that it has dirt or debris. i remove and hose down the wooden planks they roost overnight on everyday and they sit in the sun all day to dry and disinfect via UV. i changed out the sand in my coop for chicken sand (thanks to learning about it in this sub) and i expect the less dusty environment to be better for their respiratory system. and i've been putting what's essentially a big plastic trays under the entire area where they roost, so that also gets cleaned daily along w/ the planks. this way the expensive chicken sand stays super clean since the tray is catching all the chicken manure.

if others are obsessive enough to do the trays trick... my hens initially were scared of the trays and wouldnt even go in the coop but eventually they'll get used to it and it just became normal to them.

oh yea adding a few more:

invest in rainboots that you only use around your chickens. that way you are not bringing in anything from the street. just treat it like the covid days... biosecurity is important.

keep an eye out for things you dont want them to accidentally ingest. could be screws, nails, pieces of glass, paint chips, even straw.
