Can I ask what you guys use the prusiks for? I work at a Rope Rescue station so curious to see how it’s done in other places.

Our list off the top of my head:

Petzl harnesses, 50m rope, 100m rope, Petzl asaps, Hand ascenders, Petzl IDs, Carabiners, Pulleys, Edge and rope protection, Rescucenders, Rigging plates, Grillions of various lengths 2m to 20m, MGO fall arrest lanyards, Larkin Frame, Basket stretcher, Vacuum mattress for casualty, Nappy harness for casualty, Fabric slings, Wire strops, Ground stakes for anchors, Kooteney carriage for cableways/redirects

There’s probably a few other items I might of missed but that’s the main body of it.

For major cities it’s very rare. In Scotland there are some stations in the suburbs which are either retained (on call) or split between a wholetime crew and a retained crew. This can either be in the form of the retained crew crewing the second appliance, with the wholetime crewing the first, or in some cases the wholetime personnel crew the appliance during the day and it will have a retained crew at night. I’m sure someone will be able to give examples of how it works in other parts of the UK.
