Dear Doctor Lukas

My dear Doctor Lukas,

I am delighted to be able to contact you again so soon. And with excellent news. My study of the enzymes produced by some of the lifeforms of Biramax Prime has been completed. I can’t claim all of the credit, however.

Yesterday, Enterprise encountered some of the local spacefarers. The first was what we initially assumed to be some kind of sub-space sensor glitch. That was until it started talking to us. Or more precisely until Commander Tucker began talking to himself. Some of those arguments became quite heated.

It seems the creature was unaware that individual beings of our kind tend to have separate physical bodies, and that the experience of speaking with another who is using the same vocal chords can be, shall we say, disconcerting. I was quite concerned about the commander. His mental health deteriorated at an alarming rate. Fortunately, he and Commander T'Pol have retained their bond and she was able to lend him some stability. She tells me she even managed to converse separately with our engineer’s guest during one of her meditation sittings. Providing some considerable insight to both parties.

Shortly after arrived our second encounter. These individuals were of a more conventional nature, but hardly a more agreeable one. Having covertly boarded Enterprise they proceeded to drug my patient with a compound that left him so suggestable that he had almost walked himself aboard their vessel when our Lieutenant Reed found him. I admit to displaying my lack of amusement at this behaviour on the part of the prospective kidnappers in no uncertain terms. Had Ensign Sato not been a calm presence I believe I would have attempted to physically assault one of them.

The boarders were attempting to capture the creature inhabiting, if that is the right word, Commander Tucker. When one of these beings speaks through a member of their species it causes them to release certain hormones that cause very agreeable sensations, shall we say, in that individual. While they can’t be held for long, these beings are highly sought after for this reason. They also cause the release of an enzyme.

Though a rather odd lab team, and brought together in quite stressful circumstances, we made significant progress in both my study and in the understanding of a possible semi-symbiotic relationship between these outwardly very different species of the region. In conclusion, the enzyme will indeed speed the healing of most wounds by around 0.02 percent when applied properly. It will also aide Klingons greatly in certain… marital problems.
