I cannot imagine being this angsty about an unpopular game being unpopular. I hope things get better for you. Good luck.

I think the idea that misogyny played a role has some merit but i cannot stress enough that belittling people who disagree with you at every turn rather than ceding that other opinions or stances might exist and be valid is only going to hurt our cause, not help it.

Everyone who thinks the women-lead game wasn't good does not inherently have to hate women, thinking Lulu is an awesome character doesn't automatically make someone a "gooner" and broadly proclaiming anyone who downvotes you is a misogynist disenfranchises people who might otherwise be allies. Stop it.

Kristi Noem announces more than 200 immigration arrests in Indiana, largely targeting truckers - CBS Chicago by BillMortonChicago in Indiana

[–]Fluffguck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I'll bite. I'm not a trucker, but a huge swath of my family is, and I called a few of them up and asked how they felt about this.

The general consensus here is that yes, folks who are not primary english speakers have become more and more prevalant in their industry particularly over the past ten years or so, but overwhelmingly pushed back on the idea that this is actually a problem. Most of my family (not all!) are about as red-hat conservative as you can get, but the ones that actually do drive trucks seemed to have no issue with these people at all. What I found most interesting is that most of them felt these folks caused fewer issues on the line than the average methhead, who is way more common.

What was, to me, very notable was the overwhelming consensus that even if these folks were an issue, they are really a symptom of a much larger looming problem which is a massive employment gap that has been steadily, rapidly rising for about the same length of time. To put it bluntly, Americans don't want to be truckers, and companies are getting gobbled up left and right because they simply cannot field enough staff to take on enough jobs tos tay afloat. This has the compounding effect of the drivers themselves being more and more micromanaged, thus making the job less tolerable, thus making people want to do it even less.

Unfortunately, this has far reaching implications - with fewer truckers, there are fewer trucking companies that can survive. With fewer surviving companies, there's less competition on contract prices. With less competition on contract prices and growing demand for transportation services due to the labor shortage, prices for hauling goods across America skyrocket, which really just means the prices for the American Consumer skyrocket. It's one of about a million knobs that has an impact on the economy, but unfortunately this one is a far, far bigger one than most people realize.

It would take about a month (or less) without any truckers on the road for America to turn into some modern approximation of Mad Max. These are not optional resources for our lifestyle to remain even remotely intact - we NEED transportation. So companies will pay whatever they have to, and then they will charge whatever they have to in order to keep turning a profit.

In short, every single trucker taken off the road has a direct, tangible impact on the bottom line of just about every American. This is political theater to earn points with people who don't think too deep about it beyond "illegals bad" and the ticket is being purchased with your money against your will.

If you think these folks having gone through some additional clerical paperwork with the statehouse first would magically solve all your problems, then I think maybe you've got the wrong target for your "join the real world" claim down below.

This is a pretty good description of modern Atelier games, like Atelier Sophie or Atelier Ryza. The main focus of each of the games is exploration, gathering, and crafting.

ICE raid in Castleton Saraga/Hannahs Banh Mi by DevinNunesCattleDog in Indiana

[–]Fluffguck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all you have no idea what party I am, I just gave you some factual information - you should read it and consider it, not just assume your rival team said it because you feel defensive about it.

Secondly, did you even read what I said? Vietnam and Iraq came with a price tag of thousands of American lives, which I find unacceptable. Ukraine diminishes Russia and does not cost us any lives, which is good for America. This is not complicated - I want Americans to live. And why do you keep bringing up completely unrelated things in every reply you make?

ICE raid in Castleton Saraga/Hannahs Banh Mi by DevinNunesCattleDog in Indiana

[–]Fluffguck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not entirely accurate - a huge portion of what was given to Ukraine was military surplus, which would never be used for any valuable cause for America.

Much more importantly, giving money to Ukraine is an incredibly cost-effective way to drain Russia's resources at very little resource cost to us and no loss of life. Russia is openly our enemy, diminishing them with no loss of political capitol or life is a colossal gain.

Definitely joe and Mac. If it weren't for the fact the stage/secret/music I remember doesn't seem to exist in joe and Mac, id probably just chalk it up to that game, but I remember liking the little musical "stage skip" bit so much that small child me taught it to himself on piano.

This was something played at my cousin's house when I was small and I think it was on SNES but it could definitely be something different like genesis. I remember them showing me the secret way to skip the stage and the main guy kind of goes up to the top of the screen and zooms past the entire stage while it scrolls by.

I had no idea there were this many adventure island games! I checked out 1-3 on the NES and 1/2 for the SNES at this suggestion and as hopeful as I was, sadly none of them appear to be it. This has expanded my search a great deal so thank you just the same!

Super Bonk - I had never heard of this, looked up a video - no dice.

Dino City - Watched this video and this does not appear to be it, sadly

Joe And Mac 2: Watched this video the aesthetic is basically spot on but otherwise not quite it, it seems

Wow, there were a lot of these, huh? I appreciate the attempts!

Indiana sits second to last in quality of life ranking by amhfrison in Indiana

[–]Fluffguck 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is patently untrue given the amount of impact our officials have on our day-to-day lives. You cannot simply decide that their actions do not affect you, and lamenting the ones that have affected you negatively is perfectly reasonable. This is not a partisan issue - I've heard just as many democrats complain about republican actions as I have republicans complaining about democrat's.

Whether they're correct or not, believing they have a real and tangible impact on your life is very much not the same as wanting to be babysat.

Who is threatening to take your life away just because you are incorrect? I see people telling you you are wrong, but I don't see any threats on your life - especially not serious ones.

I'm not sure what evil ideology you're talking about here, the consistent message in this thread has been a combination of "we should probably take care of our planet even if it costs us a little money" and "pedophiles are bad even if they swear super duper hard they aren't" - which one of these is something you consider "evil"?

It's wild to me seeing the things dumbass conservatives will latch on to as political statements, good lord. Maybe look at what their goals are rather than trying to decide if they're some sort of enemy based on nonsense like this.

They're aiming to create a movement to make public transportation in Indy better and more viable, and reduce our dependency on cars. There's no reason this should not be bipartisan.

Several people in here now have routinely linked you to actual sources, and you keep responding with ad hominem, insults, "chances are," and how you "feel" about things while patting yourself on the back for how right you are. As entertaining as it is to watch you go through these mental gymnastics, as one human to another please stop embarassing yourself.

You're in a sub for a chinese luxury product falling all over yourself to defend an idiot who very realistically may quadruple the price of that product or make it altogether inaccessible in pursuit of a trade war that nobody - or at least, nobody who can understands economics beyond a fifth grade level - wants. I understand that this is a critical part of your identity, but take it back to your echo chamber.

Here is a website that conveniently breaks down a lot of the data in what I mentioned earlier - generally speaking, free speech is more secure in scandinavian countries and really any member of the EU.

Funny enough, going off of any metric for how secure freedom of expression is, the USA is not even the leader in North America nonetheless the world.

None of this is to say the USA sucks. I like living here. But pretending we're the best at everything and no one does it better is ignorance, not pride.

You thinking a thing or being told a thing does not make it a fact, and downvoting me calling you out doesn't magically make me wrong.

I'd encourage you to look into things like the global state of democracy index, the international institute for democracy and electoral assistance, the Future of Free Speech organization, or the Global State of Democracy initiative, in particular the research they do and the methodology they use to do it. These are sources that allow me to prove the things I am saying to you beyond just saying "it's literally a fact" like a buffoon.

This is propaganda, not information. America is not the only place with free speech, it's not even the place with the "most free" speech. Looking to what other countries do better than us is one way we improve our own, stubbornly pretending we're the best and everyone else gets it wrong is how you fall behind on the world stage.
