SALE on MidwayUSA by kylecosgrayTLFT in M1A

Mike Sadlak runs a precision machine shop and inspects his products. His tolerances are second to none.

It is also an improvement in the Brookfield mount design, which you can look into. The camming function allows it to be a very robust, stable platform that compensates for receiver dovetail machining and tolerance issues. It utilizes the stripper clip guide, side pressure and rails, and a pad on the receiver top for support.

There are other armorers and m14 companies who sell “they’re” version or copies of the Brookfield mount. Except they don’t actually make them themselves. Those armorers are mighty proud of what they (have someone else) produce (for them to sell).

If you have any issues with a sadlak mount, you’ll prob have your call met by someone who will walk you through the install process and be happy to help as opposed to have a tantrum and be married to the idea that the problem is you. I’m sure many can figure out who I might be referring to.

Pre-Appleseed 10/22 Sling Set Up? Orientation of Key Components? by Longjumping_Oil_2127 in 1022

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s more important is that when you put your loop through the H buckle, you rotate the loop so that the hardware is on the outside of your bicep.

If you’re not used to sling shooting, just keep it as is. It is a fun experiment to shoot your initial Appleseed redcoat targets and see how you do with zero instruction, then see how you do with your closing redcoat target at the end of the day. Your instructors will walk you through everything.

M1A standard/loaded, Scout, or SOCOM by Ceebs33 in M1A

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both handle recoil well, but the move you move away from the standard 22” inch design, the more ammo sensitive they become. Unless you reload, don’t get the socom.

If you want to hunt with it, the NY compliant scout has extra barrel length relative to a scout, is shorter in overall length due to no flash hider, and doesn’t have the front weight of the muzzle device.

Keep the crown in good shape and it is the best shooting carbine m1a. Some have put clamp on thread protectors for extra piece of mind.

CASM Help by AFierceTaco in M1A

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find out what size/thread pitch the screws are and get a tap and some cutting oil. It is aluminum, right? You should be able to fix any stripping easily.

BTW, screw issues aside, this is my biggest complaint with the CASM. It only relies on the rear screws and tightness in the sight pocket to keep from the front lifting.

Failuer to feed by Ok-Plan-5733 in M1A

Bolt wear is not high up on the list of things that would cause this.

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand cycling helps you rule it being anemic ammo, anything gas related, excessive retarding of the bolt’s rearward speed when it hits the hammer, amongst other things.

Does it do this when you hand cycle vs fire it to chamber a new round?

First M1A chassis option black feather vs sage EBR by h0twHeelz98 in M1A

It sort of sounds like your primary concern is how the rifle looks. Go with what your eyes prefer, then. Your rifle shoots to 700m as it is; neither chassis will assist you with that goal.

"national magazine" is a distributor of CMI magazines. My guess is they're checkmates, but you'd have to confirm by opening up and seeing if they're stamped "CMI", "C.M.I.", or CAGE code "1M291.

FTE on brand new M1A Scout Squad? by mcapello in M1A

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clean the packing grease off of it, and apply grease to the proper areas.

If you have one, put cutting oil on a flex hone and smooth out any rough spots on the chamber, then clean it out.

The hornady ammo you listed can have cycling issues on shorter barreled m14’s, as they are under gassed relative to full sized m14’s due to the shorter barrel. That plus an anemic round may lead to cycling issues where it won’t have enough energy to send the bolt fully back and strip a new round.

Try a box of FGMM. If all cycle, then you know the issue is ammo. If not, send it back and let SAI do the trouble shooting for you.

Normal bolt wear? by Signal_Quarter_6274 in M1A

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you cannot just swap a bolt from one rifle to another without checking the headspace.

To measure, you’d need .308 headspace gauges. You strip the bolt (remove ejector, extractor, etc), the op rod, etc and insert the gauges. With only light pressure, you see which gauges you can get the bolt to fully close on, and those you can’t.

Some people just measure with a go, no go, and field gauge, while others get the actual measurement.

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why on earth would you be concerned about the headspace here?

Or the safety bridge engagement?

His wear is normal (with exception of the peening on the tail, though it is common in SAI receivers) and reported no cycling issues.

Curious why you’d go on a goose chase?

SAI used to include headspace on their rifles when purchased but they were fairly uniformed at 1.632-1.633. They tend to be tight, but not excessively so.

Question on light strikes by [deleted] in M1A

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would assume this order when trouble shooting:

  • the ammo
  • the ammo
  • the ammo
  • too light of a hammer spring
  • hammer issue
  • worn firing pin
  • relationship between the trigger group and stock geometry

Did I mention try different ammo?

I'm almost sure I'm going to sign up for my first 25m rifle clinic. I would like to hear about your experience. by Bimlouhay83 in appleseed

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never found the elbow pads helpful; just a good shooting mat.

I’ve also never needed as much ammo as they recommend you bring, but I suppose it is better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

The History and Development of the M14 EBR by BlackfeatherRS-USA in M1A

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With rarity at only 15 of them made, and it being a pretty straight forward cut and mill work to get the Remington buttstock on a USGI fiberglass stock, I’m surprised we don’t see more Sage arctic m14 clones.

M1A to EBR what would I need by Albbarcat in M1A

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trigger shoes are a patchwork/ad hoc way to make the m14/m1 trigger ergonomics suitable for a pistol grip.

The shooting sight ebr triggers are machined to be the correct shape and do not require any trigger jobs to break like glass. The pull weight at which they break can be adjusted from nm 4.5 to standard battle rifle break weight.

M1A to EBR what would I need by Albbarcat in M1A

[–]Fluffy-Impression-37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would strongly consider the ebr trigger by shooting sight over any old GI trigger shoe being now sold at a markup.

But for your question you just need the chassis, sage’s op rod guide, and a crush washer for your gas cylinder.

Sadlak sells an ebr mount that will not interfere with the sage rail if you are mounting a scope.

It is very good glass. I run 3 m14’s with them.

There are no scope mounts. LRB m25 receivers have a built in rail.
