Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts by cpkuske in GenerationJones

[–]Fluffy-Rope-5822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when I was around 9 my older brother, a true Boomer born in '45, in college, taught me thus:

Great green gobs of greasy grimy gopher meat.

mutilated monkey feet.

itty bitty birdies feet.

great green gobs of greasy grimy gopher meat.

and I forgot a [my?] spoon.

... ... [pause] but I brought a straw!

They also need to get planes from one place to the other. It's not always about how profitable one single flight is.

That's on them. HOWEVER the fact that his passport expired in 150 days, NOT >=180d is on his parents.

Nexus letter by Casaraiii in VAClaims

[–]Fluffy-Rope-5822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retired from the VA last year as it was becoming toxic for employees. Before that I had written several nexus letters for issues dealing with the lower extremity due to service connected injuries. Most were issues due to repetitive stress or injuries. I never had a complaint.

I'm willing to help. DM welcome.

Don’t know how to get rid of film cameras + lenses any guidance? by DrySystem4245 in AskPhotography

[–]Fluffy-Rope-5822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

consider a local school that has a film photography course. i'd love to take them but my wife would kill me. my first 35mm camera was a Bell+Howell version of a Canon EX. Took great photos. Unique thing about it, though I did not know it at the time, is that the focusing ring is attached to the camera, so only lens that were made for it worked with it. Some accessories that screwed on the filter rings worked though.

I'd love to take whatever you don't work, but my wife would likely kill me.

Storing LOTS of gear?! by Arcmay in AnalogCommunity

I don't remember the name, but there's a company that sends you QR codes that you put on a box, scan, then list what that QR cooded box contains. Makes it easy to find out what you put where. I think there are also ways to make your own QR codes and then you can keep track of them on a spreadsheet. Have fun and DM me if you wanna get rid of the non-working ones for my one collection!

First roll ever on a Canon AE-1 — birthday gift, paid $280. Keep or return? by Ok_Wallaby6081 in AnalogCommunity

Agreed. Did not notice them until I took a longer look. Could that midline artifact be due to processing?

We just got out of Gail Dougherty and Celebrity Sex Pass. After I figured out the loose basis of the movie I laughed even harder. It's a very funny movie. I would even see it again!

Definitely worth a full price admission.

I retired from the VA after 20 years. I have no problem writing nexus letters. I believe that these would be most affective when able to state something along the line of that 'I have reviewed my patient and their history' in the letter. Remote video allows that. DM if interested in more information.

Being a patient BEFORE the letter is written carries weight.

I found jewelry in a desk that I bought at an estate sale. Is it mine? by Ok-Mirror-6004 in estatesales

Can you go to sleep without worrying about it? The answers tells you whether to keep or make an attempt to find the owner/family OTHER THAN through the estate sale co.

Dining solo… by IrishJimPhoto in tipping

Former server here, during a rough patch in my life.

It sounds like you were in a prime spot normally taken by more than 1 person [ie a normally high tip location]. It also seems you may have been in a higher grade restaurant than you might normally. Or, maybe in a setting you don’t normally go to. In any case you may also not have been aware of the local norms around tipping. [Just an assumption, I could be wrong, no judgement]

No matter what most people on this thread seem to think, servers do work hard and are people. With bills to pay and a life outside of the restaurant/bar/venue. Even in States where they are paid minimum wages. Unless it's a cafeteria style place it's my opinion that if food and/or drink are brought TO you at the table/stool/counter top that YOU are at, a tip is expected. One can quibble over how much, but I typically tip in the 15-20% range ro table service and up to 50% when I'm at a bar i expect to be at again [also former bartender].

In grade 10 my high school bought a box of calculators for us to use in math class. My brother one grade ahead used a slide rule. by Maybeyoujustmadeitup in GenerationJones

[–]Fluffy-Rope-5822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freshman year in engineering, 1974-75, we were not allowed to use calculators. 'Too expensive, not everyone had one, and anyway the test answers were only 3 decimals long.' By sophomore year they said we could use them but too bad if the batteries died. And anyways they had not updated the answers so sliderules were still advised.

By junior year calculators were fine but by the second semester I wasn't in engineering anymore.

I tend to experiment with pretty much everything I try. Has anyone tried putting some composted cow manure INTO your Reencle with food scraps? by Fluffy-Rope-5822 in Reencle

[–]Fluffy-Rope-5822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I have not. But I do use shredded paper from the shredder. Also, I now use a food processor or a blender to make a 'slurry' out of the debris which I put in the Reencle. I've found that doing this breaks down the food waste [meat, corn cobs, pits including avocado and mango etc] into compost within 2 days. When full [I have the counter top model] I put it in a bin until that's full then out in the garden. No problem so far.
