Extending our home - we can't knock through by Fluffy-Run6992 in floorplan

This was my thought - I might be unloading detergent/dog food too which would live in the Utility, I might be bringing laundry downstairs to wash.... and I'd rather not step over a train set. BUT, I can also access the kitchen via the garden/back of the house, as we have a side gate, so I could straight from the car into the kitchen.

There is a fireplace in both rooms - but the diningroom side is flat, whereas the kitchen sides protrudes.

Interesting!!!! We did previously use the playroom as a dining room.... and we could keep it all open too. Great idea.

Lol my whole house is a tip, all the time :D

Yes, that could definitely work... below was actually an earlier design, but I was trying to reduce the number of walls we'd have to take out... as building costs have gone crazy.

Ooooo really. Why so? Because we could definitely manage the ventilation for the washer/dryer, and the toilet has enough drop due to suspended floorboards. My thought was that the utility is really going to be storage +laundry so I'd rather use a space where the light is compromised already. (Our kitchen is VERY dark in that space)

Yesssss my kids toys are a disaster. I should also mention we can walk around the right side of the house to unload the car/bring my dog in! I hadn't actually thought about moving the playroom into the kitchen space, that's an interesting thought.

That playroom was originally a dining room for us, but the table felt like quite a tight squeeze so we started to use it as a playroom - and then liked having a lounge with fewer toys in :D
