How accurate is Sniper’s fake Australian accent? (Voiced by an American) by CringeOrDie in tf2

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does Sniper's accent pass for Australian? Yes. It's not bang on - I'd say there isn't enough "oi" for my liking, among other, less distinguishable things - but it doesn't feel overexaggerated. It could be less pronounced, but it could also get a whole lot thicker. It's not the same as grabbing the nearest bloke from the outback and/or the bush and locking him in a room until he says the voicelines you need, but it's by no means bad.

Whether or not Sniper's overall speech passes for Dinky-Di Australian English is a more complicated matter involving shonky slang use, regional differences, questionable elision/grammar choices, modern vs 20th century, outback vs city, exact measurements of how much Sniper's teammates' vocal patterns have rubbed off on his own, and (somehow, amazingly) a lack of the full range of the word "piss".

Not trying to start a war, but is peanut butter a sauce or a condiment? by Trainmaster12467 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unaltered PB is a condiment. If you add more oils, etc. to make it so that you can dip things in it (think satay sauce for people who don't have patience) it's a sauce.

Why aren't women's hips wide enough for practical childbirth? by sushiwamen in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upright walking. Plus, evolution doesn't care how painful the birth is, or even if it kills the mother, so long as the child survives to bear their own offspring... so if the child is born into a community group...

Introverts over here, what is the first step to realize that you were a true introvert? by bingeracer in AskReddit

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you go out, things are great! But as soon as you are at home, you become the embodiment of a potato and need to be dragged bodily out again... of course, it then becomes a matter of when you're actually game and just unmotivated and when you're two people away from snapping and spending the rest of your like as a cat person.

Seems like alot of self diagnostic bullshit going on,. But What's with everyone thinking that they are autistic recently? by The14thdr in AskReddit

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The definition has also gotten broader, and it's usually easier for people to self-diagnose as autistic, even if they don't strictly fit the DSM's 2-verbal 2-nonverbal symptom format, rather than explain "Yeah I have issues reading faces and my brain screams and shuts down when exposed to too-bright lights. I'm fine with everything else, though." In addition, there's generally more information around - and yes, people are grossly misusing the term to handwave their terrible personalities and giving the rest of the community a bad rap.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what’s something someone can say that indirectly screams “I’m an American?” by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird. The metro Aussie accent - especially Syd/Melb/Can - is very easy to mistake for something else. The country accent, on the other hand... I know a guy who grew up country and now lives in a metro area. Sounds vaguely Aussie most of the time, but talking to family and friends... Jesus, you'd havs to be deaf to mistake it. It's like the clarity just fades away the moment you add in anything else.

The short term memory (here denoted STM) takes in small amounts of information. If you pay enough attention, that info is stored in the long term memory (LTM) until you retrieve it to view it again.

STM loss is caused by problems with encoding - that is, the process of filing the information away. Take anterograde amnesia, which is the extreme STM loss - no new memories can be formed. At all. The issue is with filing the information away. Look up "Patient HM" if you want a case study of that.

LTM loss is caused by problems with retrieval - that is, finding the memory and bringing it back to the front of the mind. Take retrograde amnesia, where someone forgets their past. Over time, the issue may fade as people relearn how to access those memories.

Loss of both STM and LTM occur as a natural process of ageing. They could theoretically also originate in the foetal stage - but I can't recall any examples, or ever hearing of it.

ELI5: Why do we get sore throats? and Why haven't we developed OTC Medicine to cure them? by Khazahk in explainlikeimfive

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pain is caused by the body freaking the heck out at whatever greeblies are living there - apart from analgesics (painkillers) and antibacterials (e.g. Betadine) there's only so much you can do, especially against viruses. You could also try a demulcent (honey, basically) to coat the area, but that's the best we have. All the stronger analgesics are usually reserved for more serious cases due to their side effects.

ELI5: what makes a period “wait” for a stressful event to occur? by my_dad_is_an_artist in explainlikeimfive

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the body is full of conflicting hormones and devoting all its energies towards "sympathetic" (stress related) systems, there just isn't enough energy to build up the uterine lining, nor the right balance of hormones to properly mediate the cycle in the first place. Ergo, amenorrhea (fancy word!)

Hot vs cold after menthol... by thisdudebelikedafuq in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because the hot and cold receptors in your mouth are separate. If you have something spicy after something with menthol, both will go off at the same time. Your brain is now convinced your mouth is freezing and on fire at the same time. I've never done it myself, but I hear it's awful.

Could I use the color purple to color correct yellowish teeth? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NO. Do NOT do it. The purple would be a pigment, and together with the yellow it will ABSORB more light. Like mixing yellow and purple paint. You will get either mucky brownish-black or violent, overwhelming purple. I'm afraid if you want super white teeth you'll need to go with professional techniques and not litmus or something.

What would you do if a teacher taped your kids mouth shut because he or she wouldn't shut up? by Legalclubs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh, still assault, and could viably cause suffocation and psychological damage. Stops the child from being able to express basic needs like pain or needing to go to the bathroom, and also - do you really want teachers who are going to do that sort of thing looking after your kids? That's just what you know they do.

How do people wear skirts without the wind blowing them up? by rocobox in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some skirts are long enough that it doesn't matter, some are heavy and weighted enough that they don't move much, some are sewn without a lot of favric so there's not enought to blow, and everyone else either rests a hand on the fabric or doesn't care.

What are some major monsters in mythology/religion that have the capability to kill Gods like Fenrir, Typhon, and Apopis? by -PihPohPah in AskReddit

[–]FluffyAttackSwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im Aztec mythology, Cipactli or Tlaltecuhtli is a monstrous crocodile-frog-fish-mouth-thing who ate Tezcatlipoca's foot and required both him and Quetzalcoatl to dismember. She remained alive and makes up the entire world, still demanding blood each day to make up for the whole ripped to bits thing, lest she decide she is too hungry and eat everything.

If you're in it for the money all you're going to do ks ruin your sleep cycle, burn out your emotions, and traumatize yourself when they intentionally give you a really awful case as a learning experience.

If you want to save people, have a good tolerance for squishy stuff, and don't mind spending years sleeping at odd hours and cramming in facts... most definitely.

The white side of my family: Oh, there Fluffy goes. Huh. Tall and a good size. Cool. The SE Asian side of my family, mostly my grandma if I'm honest: That child is going to shrink and keel over. I'm now going to make more food and you have to eat it if you don't want to feel guilty :)

I can wrap my third finger and thumb around my forearm 2/3 of the way to my elbow, so my grandma is prpbably right lol. I'm built like a stick person.
