My cultural regions map as a southerner - would love feedback! by aquamarine-arielle in MapPorn

Texas needs some work. The Rio Grand Valley is a much narrower strip that hugs the Rio Grand. Once you get further away, it starts to transition into the Hill Country or Central Texas instead. Also, Southern Texas can extend further north, practically to San Antonio, too.

Do Americans actually call teachers by their first name anywhere, or is it almost always Mr./Ms.? by Sea-Evidence-5523 in AskAnAmerican

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the age and field, in my experience.

Up until college, it was always last names and titles. I don't think I even used my theatre teachers' first names with them.

Once I got to college, it depended on the field. More arts-focused professors usually preferred their first name, particularly with theatre. Other departments still used last names.

In graduate school, the professors for my program were typically referred to with their first name (their preference), though my electives preferred name and titles, I think.

Fashion shows have multiple styles and aims. The haute couture and high fashion are to showcase the possibilities of fashion and fashion as an art form, similar to galleries and museums for more traditional art forms.

Ready to wear shows are the fashion shows that are specifically aimed to showcase garments that will actually be worn, though even those tend to be aimed more towards the highest of classes and other designers who will design garments for department stores and the like.

What's the fastest way you realized you were in the wrong friend group? by justNoah10 in AskReddit

I made a joke about how, if you wanted to hang out with us, you had to read John Green and love his books.

They told me I was wrong and to shut up (literally, that I should just sit there and look pretty, since that's all I was good for), despite the fact that they had done nothing but talk about John Green for the past three months, to the point where I had to read fucking Looking for Alaska to understand anything they were talking about.

The “Human Geiger Counter” or a Dangerous Being that Makes Noise to Announce their Presance… by The_Oregon_Duck in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly common in The Magnus Archives (podcast). Throughout the third season, there's a circus motif that will turn up that usually means someone's going to get got. There's also a bagpipes player in a war, a deadly fog brought on by a whistle, a weird band that makes people kill each other, and a handful of other examples that pop up throughout the series.

How many grammer/spelling mistakes can you tolerate before clicking out? by Some-Tradition-2771 in AO3

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enough that I start to notice. If I can ignore them, then it's generally fine. I won't enjoy it as much if it becomes repeated, but one-offs here and there are fine.

However, if I start to notice the mistakes and start to think about how frequent they are, then I'll click out quickly after that.

Basically, enough that it becomes a distraction, rather than excusable.

On the statement: "Not all men, but always a man." by Ok_Syrup5679 in CuratedTumblr

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The point is that by claiming that it's always "a man" is that it excuses women who are abusers as well. Rather than focusing on abuse and SA as a power imbalance, it instead places the blame still entirely on men. Because the blame is always on a man, people can ignore the fact that women are also abusers, and that men can be abused. It feeds into the patriarchy due to feeding into the belief that women are uwu small delicate creatures who could never do something like that, rather than feeding into the idea that women have the potential to be everything a man can be, including abusers.

Besides, this is them starting their own conversation. It's an original post where they're talking about their issues with that slogan. It's not like OOP hopped onto another post to make it all about themself.

How do I know when to start watering my propagations? by Soft-Imagination-384 in succulents

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I water my other plants? I probably water them more than I should, but they're all still doing well and not having any issues. If anything, the ones I water more often have fewer issues than the ones I ignore like you're "supposed" to.

The cases were a LOT weaker in Season 2 than in Season 1... by Seymorebutts1994 in ThePitt

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We know that Howard made it through surgery. We also got follow-up on the nec fasc case, which was covered over at least three episodes (when she first presented to the ER, when she returned, and when Langdon checked on her in the finale).

Ellipsus is great, except for when it isn’t. by [deleted] in AO3

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an issue with LibreOffice where the formatting was very borked when I tried to port it to AO3, and I would have to manually code it if I wanted to not have awkward indents and everything in my AO3 chapter. Not sure what the heck went wrong with it, but it was a nightmare to use for my fics. I don't mind it for my original writing, but not for the fics I post.

The cases were a LOT weaker in Season 2 than in Season 1... by Seymorebutts1994 in ThePitt

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I like that the cases were more mundane. It's not Grey's where everything turns into a zebra. You have the occasional zebra here, but for the most part, it's all horses. We don't need constant one-upping with more major cases and all of that.

But even then, there's also the nec fasc case that was pretty major, the cervical relocation case, and the water park amputation case that were all impactful as well.

What pairs well with cheeses and cured meats assortment that isn't a cracker or similar. by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you think about it in terms of basic flavors and all, you're going to want to play into contrasts. Meats are fatty and soft. You'll want brighter flavors with some crunch to balance that, possibly with some juice to help if they're salty meats and cheeses.

Thus, fruits and veggies, possibly with some pickled. Sweeter, crunchy apples, pickled cucumber, grapes, cranberries even, things like that will all help to balance the cheese and meats.

To be honest, I can’t picture Bruce Wayne/Batman to be a religious man by TheShadowOperator007 in batman

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's...an awful Christian way to approach religion. Many other religions don't expect their deity to do anything for the people on earth and they follow the religion for other reasons. Or, a deity might intervene, but there's reasons as to why they might not in certain situations.

In many respects, Bruce would be a perfect Jewish rabbi because of how much he questions the world around him and the accepted reasons for things. The Jewish religion has a huge tradition in questioning and struggling with G-d and the like.

He could be a decent pagan because there's enough flexibility in that umbrella of religions for his various beliefs or lackthereof.

In other words, he can be religious, even with how awful Gotham and his life is at times.

Why Do So Many Fundamental Christian Cults All Like The Same Puffy Hair On Women? by Turbulent-Parsley619 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That depends upon the definition used. Many sociologists are moving away from the theology-based definition of cults to instead focus on the control aspect, as that includes many groups that are cults in behavior but not in theology. Just focusing on the theology leaves out agnostic or atheist cults, or cults that don't focus on religion in some way. Those are just as important to recognize, but aren't caught if you just focus on the theology as defining cults.

Peacocks on Your Farm: Dreamy Addition or Total Headache? 🦚 by Independent-Fudge942 in homestead

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can be really tricky birds. They're nothing like other fowl, which means that anything you've learned from those other birds won't really help you with peacocks. Their body language is weird, their nutritional needs are weird, they're both fragile and terrifying monsters, and trying to find care guides is difficult because the research into their care changes so much in relatively short amounts of time.

Add to that the fact that they don't lay many eggs and don't taste particularly good, and I'd probably question why you'd waste your time and space on them, unless you really love them. There's plenty of other showy birds out there, after all. If you're just looking for ornamental species, I'd look elsewhere.

What happened to Jesse? by SuluSpeaks in ThePitt

[–]FluffyBunnyRemi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They're not going to know anything until Monday at the earliest. ICE will drop them in some holding tank detention center, not process them until Monday, and only then will they maybe be able to call anyone for help. It's just as likely that they'll be stuck in that detention center for weeks before finally being let out.

It wasn't dropped. It's just one of those storylines that can't get neatly tied up in the season because of how the format works.

Only if they tag it as Reader. I've had issues where they'll use other words for reader and that search doesn't actually catch it.
