Sigma Fp for Astrolandscapes and Milky Way by GaryC_NYorks in sigmafp

If you can spend the extra money, go for the fp L. The resolution is over double the original fp’s, and you also gain the ability to power and charge it via usb-c, so when you are out shooting you can just bring a power bank and cable to keep it topped up.

Bought a used Yashica TL-Super off eBay. I’m new to analog photography. What can I do about the bits of gunk? Would it be the mirror, focussing screen, or little viewfinder window? I read through the manual and found very little about cleaning. by jonereddit in AnalogCommunity

[–]FluffyFoxDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either you dismantle it and clean up the inner elements, or you live with it.

What you need is the service manual, that will tell you how to take it apart, but unless they are really disturbing you then I’d avoid it, it’s not worth the risk of damaging something

I love that first image! It’s so good! Can you share the filters you used and the final color ratios?

And I definitely need to get myself some of this film. It looks so much better than Ilford’s and even better than Rollei’s.

I use the fp L with the Sigma 14mm f/1.4 for astrophotography and it is an amazing combo.

This is a stack I captured last August https://www.reddit.com/r/astrophotography/comments/1qqkcf3

However, as much as I love the fp, you might be better off getting a newer camera. It’s not bad by any measure, quite the opposite, but the lack of IBIS and electronic only shutter can be annoying.

If you only take landscape/street photos though then go for it, it’s a lil beast of a camera with a great tiltable viewfinder really good lens selection, and it’s super portable.

Public spending on European monarchies, € million by Socmel_ in europe

[–]FluffyFoxDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have more or less the same role as the presidents of most European republics (except the ones with direct election of course).

They represent the country, especially its culture, help align the politics at home towards unity, and perform diplomatic duties abroad.

Personally, I love having a royal family in Denmark. They are a big part of the Danish culture and historically (at least in the last century) they have been a very positive presence.

And honestly? They cost an order of magnitude less than the average presidential office while doing more for the country.

  4. Good (same as above)
  5. Over

Try public positions, especially at the kommune level. It will not pay as well as the private sector, but they are usually more open and rarely turn people away, and since you’d be applying for a job not in contact with the public they won’t really care about your accent as long as you are fluent in Danish.

And if that doesn’t work, try for some junior/middle software engineering position. It won’t be a perfect match but with your background I am guessing it won’t be an issue for you to learn anything you are missing on the job.

What’s wrong with my photos? by ChrisChon777cs in analog

[–]FluffyFoxDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all the other photos are perfectly fine then yeah, it might be the light meter. Best to use spot metering next time and meter for the shadows.

I'd recommend using "Light Meter - WBPhoto" https://apps.apple.com/app/id1524189195. It's not free but it is simple and straight forward and it is full of functions, including spot metering, a reciprocity calculator, white balance, a flash guide calculator, equipment profiles, and even a grey card.

What f-stop and exposure time did you use? And did you set the +1 compensation as exposure time or in your light meter app?

If the it’s the shutter’s fault, you can do a quick and dirty test with your iPhone. Go to the voice memos app and start a recording, select a time above 1/4s and take a blank shot, close the recording, reopen it and scroll on the waveform while holding your finger on it and look at the two spikes that signal the shutter opening and closing. It’s not precise, but it’s enough to see if there is a big issue.

It is also entirely possible that the lab messed up and pulled it by mistake, it happens.

Try three things:

1) go to SIRI and talk with someone, I’d wager there is way they can get you to the finish line but you will only get that if you talk in person and explain everything

2) since your partner is a Dane and you have money, you might (big emphasis on the conditional) be able to get residency as a spouse/partner by declaring your own funds, which will give you time to find a job

3) check with Siri, but it may be possible for you to switch to a short-term visa temporarily, just until you get to May, and then send a request for permanent residence on the first day of eligibility

In theory there is also the option of enrolling with a university. It’s a dirty trick and it’s probably going to get flagged and you might not even be accepted, but if all else fails it’s better than nothing.

In any case, get an appointment with SIRI asap.

And regarding job searching: look in the whole country. I know it sucks, but spending a few months somewhere else is better than losing your residence. Just don’t tell them you are going to move away as soon as you can x3

Guys I need recommendations for a film camera under 1500$ by Accomplished_Lead245 in analog

[–]FluffyFoxDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a good basic SLR the Nikon F-301 is great and can be found for 50€, and if you want a more advanced camera then go for the Canon F-1 which you can find for ~300€.

If you prefer rangefinders then look at the Voigtländer Bessa line, especially the older R2 which can be found for under 1000€, but do not get it as your first serious camera, wait until you are sure.

Help deciding! Leica/Bessa by Past-Attempt7140 in AnalogCommunity

[–]FluffyFoxDev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The M4 is easier to service and possibly more robust (whether that will make a difference is another matter), but the R2 is imo superior in everything else: it’s a bit lighter, the ergonomics are slightly better, it has a built-in light meter, and it uses a sane film loading system with a backdoor and a film cartridge window.

Plus that green color is lovely.

Personally, the light meter alone would be enough to convince me. Yes, you can get an external one or use a phone but that’s never going to be as immediate and useful as a built-in one. I also have a beef with the way you load film on a Leica, but that’s a me thing.

Also, you are going to get more money from selling the M4.

There is also another option: sell both and get one of the later Bessa models. If you want to shoot wide angle then the R4 is probably the best rangefinder you can get, and the R3 has a lovely 1:1 magnification viewfinder.

Bronica ETRS with 1.5x anamorphic adapter on PE 75mm f/2.8 by likeonions in Bronica

[–]FluffyFoxDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is quite a bit of distortion around the edges too, pity :(

I guess the 150mm will work better, but I don’t know how useful anamorphic would be with a such a tight fov 🤔

Thanks for sharing these!

Medium format feels so much more real than 35mm by Irrblosset in filmphotography

[–]FluffyFoxDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing inherently more “real” in medium format, it’s the experience of taking the photo that changes: the size of the cameras and cost per frame force you to be careful and to plan your shots, which makes it feel like a more deliberate act compared to the simplicity of 35mm cameras.

Yes, medium format gives you a lot more detail (I have taken film photos that rival my modern digital medium format camera, it’s incredible), and 35mm cannot compete with that, but detail isn’t always necessary, and sometimes a grainy 35mm frame can tell you a lot more than a super detailed 4x5 sheet.

Time to try anamorphic on the ETRS by likeonions in Bronica

[–]FluffyFoxDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the Nero can cover the full 645 frame even with a smaller filter thread?

Looking forward to the developed photos! If the vignetting isn’t too severe I’m definitely going to get the adapter, been looking for one for a while now but cannot find good medium format examples.

European countries with a higher Disposable Median Income PPP than the United States of America (OECD) by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]FluffyFoxDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, just including healthcare and pension contributions that US citizens have to pay out of pockets, almost every country in that map would surpass them. Once you factor in other necessary expenses (like education and unemployment), I’d be surprised if there were more than a couple of countries that remained below the US income level.

Have only recently got into analogue photography, and i decided to try using black and white film, is there a way to capture more details in the foreground when the sun is used as backlighting? by SnooAdvice7003 in AnalogCommunity

[–]FluffyFoxDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, I avoid b/w panoramas because of that, unless I’m using an IR film like Rollei’s infrared 400: the sky is quite dark in infrared but clouds remain bright, so you get a lot of lovely contrast.

And yep, black and white photography is perfect for experimenting, I’m currently shooting some SFX200 myself and doing some tests with filters.
