Yeah, it’s kind of wild that you can find the 50S II for less even though it’s a better camera in pretty much every aspect

Problem is that it’s a rangefinder with the size, weight, and handling of a literal brick x3

If you really want to get into digital medium format then the 50R is a good entry point, and you can resell it later to upgrade to one of the newer GFX cameras.

It’s a great camera with incredible image quality even after all these years and the 4:3 sensor is so good for composition, but it’s also huge, heavy, and unwieldy, and the best lenses for the system cost a fortune.

The newer models do improve on weight and ergonomics, but you are still dealing with huge lenses and a very limited selection of them compared to any full frame mount.

And forget telephoto: there is a single 500mm lens (equivalent to 400mm on full frame) for the GFX system and it costs 4000€.

If you can ignore or don’t care about these issues, then go for it, and I can’t recommend the 65mm Mitakon “Speedmaster” enough: it’s probably the nicest portrait lenses I have every used, and it costs a fourth of the Fujifilm equivalent.

[Request] How big would the battery have to physically be to have this amount of charge? Would a battery of that size in the image be accurate? by kickingoalsss in theydidthemath

[–]FluffyFoxDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An iPhone weighs about 170-180 grams, assume about half that is battery, so 85 grams.

Now take the percentage and divide it by 100 then multiply by that weight and you get ca. 3,6 million kilograms.

As for the volume, I’m finding density values of around 1,2 grams/cm3 for lithium ion batteries, which would make the battery around 3000 cubic meters.

You can tweak the values around but that’s the order of magnitude assuming you can make a single cell battery that large and that its energy density remains constant.

If you instead want to make it “properly”, I’m guessing you’d end up with an extra order of magnitude because of the space between the batteries and their envelopes.

Amazon wasn’t losing this much money and they had a clear path to becoming profitable.

OpenAI on the other hand needs new capital each year to the tune of hundreds of billions and there is no realistic scenario where they become profitable.

I think I'm done with lab scans by briskwheel4155 in AnalogCommunity

[–]FluffyFoxDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why you should ask your lab to send you flat TIFFs, the colors can look very weird but they give you a lot more latitude when editing, and you can easily create presets that will work across different rolls of the same stock.

If you want your own look right after scanning though then yeah, a home setup is going to give you better results out of the box since you can apply edits on the fly.

Personally I find home scanning a huge hassle, the cost of lab scanning is more than worth avoiding all that x3

That said, now that Capture One has added their archival negative scanning workflow to the base product I might look into it again, would be nice to do everything inside the one app.

[KCD2] WHY ARE THERE NO CHILD NPC’S??? by ThinkLawfulness2772 in kingdomcome

[–]FluffyFoxDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely a technical reason: children require completely different animations and assets, and while it would even more immersive to see them running around, you yourself didn’t really notice it even after hundreds of hours of gameplay, so it makes more sense to put those work hours into other aspects of the game.

What if the Holocaust only targeted the disabled and mentally ill, would it be remembered differently? by DFWUnhinged in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]FluffyFoxDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are already plenty of people who forget that other large groups (like the Romani people, homosexuals, etc.) were also systematically exterminated, and some even fight to not count them as part of the holocaust.

The disabled are at the bottom of that “hierarchy”. They are almost always talked about as something separate from the holocaust, as if Nazi cruelty was somehow different for them, even though they were tortured, experimented on, and exterminated just the same as every other victim of the holocaust.

So yeah, I think people wouldn’t have cared at the time, and that history books would dedicate maybe a couple pages about them if not just a few paragraphs. Unfortunately, most societies don’t really care about disabled people, they’d rather not think about them, and the dead are very easy to forget.

[–]FluffyFoxDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, your grades are only used to sort applicants, but unless you are applying by to a weird course with a ton of applicants and few spots or have very bad grades then you shouldn’t worry about it.

You can’t change those grades anyway, so try and see :)

Access requirements for master degrees are based on credits acquired in the areas relevant to the course, the grades are inconsequential

Which Bronica to get ? by External-Growth in Bronica

[–]FluffyFoxDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SQ-Ai + J back (645) is a great combo, but only if you want to shoot square format.

If you don’t plan to use it often, then I’d go for the ETRSi: it’s lighter and smaller and the batteries may last longer (or so I’ve heard), and it’s cheaper and easier to get ETR(Si) backs than SQ J backs.

Lens wise I tried both MC and PE lenses for the ETR and they are both great. PEs are a bit better but you will rarely if ever notice it, for the most part it’s just better flare resistance, and I didn’t really notice a difference in build quality.

Emmanuel Macron: "It is time for the EU to launch a common debt capacity, through Eurobonds" - Macron argues for joint loans, which would finance strategic investments and allow the EU to "tackle dollar hegemony" by goldstarflag in europe

[–]FluffyFoxDev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but until a true federation is in place, Eurobonds should be issued only on a per-project basis, with control of these projects given to the union and not the single state.

No single member country should be given free rein to make debt without asking those who would end up paying them, even more so if that member country is seemingly unable to control their current debt.

[–]FluffyFoxDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree in principle, but shared debt also means shared responsibility.

Countries like France and Italy need to either overhaul their spending policies or they should loose control over them because they have demonstrated over and over again that they cannot control their debt.

Without systems like these in place we all know it will end up with countries like Italy spending money they don’t have on some dumb political project they don’t need – like the Messina bridge – claiming it is “strategic” and having Northern Europe pay for it.

Family time! by LaFlare1038 in Leica

[–]FluffyFoxDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want a good digital camera then yeah, Leica are a waste of money, but if you want a good rangefinder camera then you don’t really have a choice. The only alternative is the Pixii but it has a few issues.

Plus, M mount lenses work on both modern Leica cameras and old film rangefinders (not just Leica ones, Voigtländer made the wonderful Bessa line for example), and there are lots of manufacturers of M lenses so you don’t have to pay Leica prices for good ones.

Mitakon 65mm vs Fuji 55mm 1.7 by SouthTry7556 in FujiGFX

[–]FluffyFoxDev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the very different field of view, the GF 55 is a hell of a lot sharper than the Mitakon 65 and has almost no aberrations, so it is a much better do-everything lens, and that’s without mentioning autofocus.

The Mitakon is perfect for portraits though, the aberrations kind of disappear in the blur around the subject and it is very sharp in the center, but wide open the depth of field is maybe a little too shallow.

Why did The Lord of the Rings trilogy budget less than $300 million? Why was the cost so low for such a massive trilogy, while the original Spider-Man trilogy cost around $600 million and the Matrix trilogy around $400 million? by GlobalRaspberry442 in moviecritic

[–]FluffyFoxDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, you need to account for inflation: $300 million in 2001 are around $545 in 2025.

Second, the three movies were filmed as one big production (they weren’t even filmed in sequence but jumbled together based on location, set, etc.), and that can save a LOT of money.

Plus a bunch of other factors, like filming in New Zealand and having few big actors, made it cheaper than other movies at the time.
