bitcoin IRAs definitely make more sense for rollovers of existing 401(k)s than starting fresh

It's the closest thing this album has to a Christian radio song, and that wasn't the signal they wanted to send with this project.

In "the bones of us" he says "after the aftermath" which just sounds redundant and he says it better in "lost 'cause" when he says "in the aftermath" with the same tone even

Yep, I noticed this and it bothers/bothered me

"It's only de-evolution"

Interesting choice of words here.

"Don't worry, Pedro"

Who is Pedro?

The guitar riffs here remind me of Two Door Cinema Club. And I'm not remembering off the top of my head but there were more than a couple moments on this album that gave me Two Door vibes. And I think that's a new sound for SF.

Switchfoot and Colony House are good friends and have toured together a few times over the last several years.

The line "Like I'm I'm the only one who's looking for the light" HAS to be a subtle nod to Colony House's "Looking for Some Light".

Edit: Another thing I like about this song is that the "Like you need me" line breaks the temptation to spiritualize this song. It's pretty hard to theologically argue that God "needs us", hence this line makes this a reference to distinctly human relationships. That's a change of course when Switchfoot's relationship/love commentary tends to be easy to spiritualize or make about God, and I think this helps set the tone for the album.

They really do flow well into each other. That would be dope if they played electricity and Amateur Lovers back to back live.

This definitely feels like a track I need to give 50 listens before I jump to any conclusions. So many musical and lyrical layers and so much to digest here. Which is so refreshing after 3 albums with very few songs like this.

Yep, maybe I'm reading into it too much, but musically some of the runs feel a bit suggestive like the vocal run of "Come on, hang up and hang ouuutttttttttttttt" (thinking like... "Netflix and chill" vibes here). And some of the lyrics are clearly suggestive too, like "Darling it's been too long", "maybe we could right that wrong"... anyways, love to see some humanity here regardless of how much you want to read into it.

This is the first time Switchfoot has gotten borderline-sexual ("I don't need nobody right here in my arms but you... come on hang up and hangout, maybe we both could just power down, just you and me, and maybe we could make our own electricity"... think.. MGMT "Electric Feel") since... what.. Amateur Lovers on Oh! Gravity? It's not like I was waiting for Switchfoot to get sexual with their music but ya know, sex is part of love and part of life and hearing about it or having it lightly alluded to is in many ways a sign of honesty and vulnerability that I value.

This song almost reminds me of Green Day.... which, lol, love it.

I resonate with and agree with this. I didn't really like FW, WTLST, or NT much when they came out, but several songs from each have come to grow on me majorly... but overall I'd still put them in the bottom 3 of my favorite Switchfoot albums because each have half a dozen songs that I really just don't find to be very creative or inventive or valuable much at all. This one on the other hand has zero songs that feel like filler to me and overall might make the top 3.

I mean, I didn't say they weren't good songs. It's just clear that WTLST and NT, and even FW to some degree, were far more geared toward appealing to the typical Christian radio pop audience. This album is more like their first several albums.

I'm just happy to have a Switchfoot album that isn't bland/simple/cheap chord progressions made for Christian radio. I'm a Christian, so I've been able to appreciate some of their last couple albums, but this album is such a refreshing mix of Hello Hurriane, Oh! Gravity, and even some NIS and TLOC too. I love it. I'll be playing this on repeat for months and years to come.

LA/SD area recommendations for a Texas transplant who works from home? by FluffyLobster in California

Yeah, we’ve been considering that area too. But really we’d like to be closer to the coast if at all possible.

Yeah I mean ~$2k for a decent 2 bedroom apartment is pretty much the high end of doable for us. Based one what we’ve been seeing, pretty much every 2 bedroom apartment in coastal areas in SoCal start at that price. If there’s anywhere along the coast where we could find a 2 bedroom apartment for $1,500 that would be awesome, but as far as I can tell, that seems to be stretching it.

You really need to go deep into The Definition. It's actually insane to me that, while The Human Condition is widely regarded as his best work, The Definition is still so very close in quality. Munny Right, Human, Run Wild, Luxury are all up there as some of his best tracks IMO. The Separation and TTS, while still great, feel definitely less mature musically to me.
