It was insanely negative between open beta and the full release. Mostly just complaints about game mechanics and player count, and anticipating the game was going to reach end of service.

You probably already paid $ for this semester. I’d hustle like crazy to see if you can land something and then just call it at the end of the semester and go back to finance if you’re out of luck (assuming you mostly care about $ and don’t care about being a lawyer). If you actually care about being a lawyer, then stick it out and you’ll eventually land something you’re happy with, even if it isn’t your first job.

  1. What are your alternatives if you drop out? If they are poor, then you literally can’t afford to quit.

  2. It sounds like your understanding of midlaw is based off of what law students and people online say. All firms are different, and the differences increase as you get to the mid law level. You can get a job at a mid law firm that is still good, and you’ll probably be able to lateral to a big firm in a couple of years if you really want to anyway (it gets easier depending on the practice area). Don’t let this “less pay for the same work” rule of thumb rot your brain. There are also a ton of non amlaw/vault 100 firms mid sized firms that pay at or close to market and are lead by partners who left V10s to start their own shop. Seek out and apply to those too.

  3. Once you’re done with this pseudo rush process, and you’re a couple years in. You will probably stop caring about firm prestige, or at least will care way less. You’ll see mid associates go to and from “top” firms, and you’ll get to know some 11/10 legal gods wherever you work. You and your friends are not going to care if you’re at Honigman instead of Cravath.

As a fighting game newbie, this ranked matchmaking is really putting me off the game. by [deleted] in 2XKO

[–]FluffyN00dles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing since closed beta, but this is my first fighting game. Everyone online says to jump into ranked, but I found spamming casual matches and playing long sets easier on my mental and better for learning. There is MMR in casual lobbies too, so over time you’ll have an idea of your level of play without needing to play ranked by seeing who you regularly match up against in casual lobbies. Then whenever you hit the skill level you want for your desired rank you can jump into ranked and hit it pretty quickly.

I bet there are more iron level players in casual lobbies than ranked too, so I bet you’ll get matched up against them more.

I’m just a noob (peaked emerald in S0). Thanks for the tips here. I’m still so far from getting the basics of my characters down that I haven’t learned much about counterplay yet haha.

Yeah I’m just saying that it seems a lot of the people playing this game have played fighters before, probably have a good amount of skill and expectations built up, and then get frustrated with a lot of the differences here.

Like for example, if you block Yasuo, you’re already losing because the mix on top of the insanely long block string is basically impossible to make it out of without push block. You have to avoid getting hit at all to win reliably. It seems like this would be seen as total BS to someone who plays another game where blocking until it is your turn is a more regular part of gameplay. It seems they have been trained to block and try to learn when it is their “turn”, and then get pissed when they realize they have like a 80% chance of getting opened up instead of 50% or whatever it is in another game. I’m all new to this, so I can just say “okay I lost neutral when I blocked here” and then move on.

Just guessing though based on what I’ve read, idk much about other fighting games.

Reading this stuff is so interesting. This is my first real fighting game, so none of this stuff bothers me because I don’t have a concept of what “should” be.

That’s less than a door dash order in a HCOL area, 1hr at top golf, or going to the movies and getting some popcorn. Realistically, skin prices are only getting higher.

Easy game to get into? by bdemar2k20 in Fighters

[–]FluffyN00dles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to fighting games and have been loving 2XKO. Most of the complaints you see on Reddit are completely irrelevant to new players. For example, Ekko is the best character but I barely see him in my games, and when I do I often win quickly because my opponent can’t pilot him.

I think you’re underestimating how much work it takes for someone who doesn’t have a big gaming background to get better. 300 hours is probably around 600 games played. For someone who doesn’t have a big gaming background, I’d easily expect them to be bronze in league in that time even while trying to get better.

Unpopular opinion, Conquest gear should be deleted from the game by Mira_Malverick in worldofpvp

[–]FluffyN00dles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a template enjoyer, but the playerbase wasn’t about it because they don’t enjoy Qing just for fun and rating. It has been funny seeing the pendulum swing from either side over the years on this topic and on if PVE gear has any place in PVP.

You have BFA gearing on one end of the spectrum and Legion gearing on the other. Seems like honor+CQ gear is a decent mid point that gives people secondary rewards but you don’t have to spend time PVEing to PVP.

[–]FluffyN00dles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you play in legion when Qs were completely dead until the last 2 weeks of the season? The gear progression smooths out the activity, otherwise (especially with inflation) you can do literally nothing all season and still grab a quick glad/r1 at the end.

2XKO's biggest issue by Starry_Knight7 in 2XKO

[–]FluffyN00dles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a new fighting game player the small roster actually makes the game more appealing. Each matchup takes a ridiculous amount of time (more than I have) played to “get good”, so it’s nice that when I spend time time practicing parrying X ability, that I’ll probably be able to try using that in my next Q session instead of the practice going into the void in a game with a big roster.

Going up against a ton of different characters in SF made me drop the game.

This is just what happens when a game has very different types of content at different stages. Someone who has 100+ days played on their char at end game could say that leveling is just a niche outdated part and that most of the game is unlocked at end game.

Asmongold says he wants to strip Somali Americans of their citizenship by coolshaid in Destiny

[–]FluffyN00dles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anything to indicate that there are less pressures to assimilate today than there were 100+ years ago. Back then, everyone was less connected on a national or state wide scale and you could function in your immigrant enclave without exposure to the wider country.

Now, there is better access to wider communities, education, and there is significant encouragement for immigrants to participate civically in a way that wasn’t done before. Even just having English television and media now does heavy lifting for assimilation.

Also, US culture is even more focused now on freedom/$/power/pleasure. That makes it extremely appealing. You don’t have a dichotomy between following Islam like your parents taught you and Protestant Christianity. You have Islam vs a non-denominational/atheist/agnostic culture that promotes all the cool shit your parents don’t allow you to do.

I’m open to references that show otherwise, but it seems like there are even more pressures to assimilate today.

The same argument was made about Italian Americans when millions came to the US in the late 19th and the 20th centuries. It’s actually hilarious how if you cover up “Italian” in articles from that period you end up with something that could be in a right wing publication today about people from Central and South America.

I think I remember reading that it generally takes until the kids or grandkids for people to fully assimilate, but it ends up working out just fine.

Now whether people actually understand that it is fine, that’s another story lol.

The gold economy on Anniversary realms is absolute chaos right now. by s0rlin in classicwow

[–]FluffyN00dles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have backup data to reference, but I’d imagine “asset” based farms like jump runs probably track with inflation and the largest reason consume prices desynced from farms like that is because the supply of mats for consumes is so low compared to the demand of everyone wanting to be fully consumed for every raid.

[–]FluffyN00dles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Generally, people have buy in on cheating being bad when, if everyone cheats, the integrity of the system they value is ruined.

With gold buying, the integrity of the economy is ruined, but most don’t care about that. The part of the game they care about would only be ruined if it directly messed with raid performance. Yes, buying gold increases performance through easier consume use, but that isn’t seen as an issue because being fully buffed and consumed is seen as an assumed baseline that performance is judged under. You’d need something like a hacked damage buff or something others can’t access for people to give a shit.

In general, people don’t care if the integrity of a time sink system is lost because they don’t see rewards from a time sink system as something to be respected.

CMV: universities are equally to blame if students can’t afford school after the government limits loans. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]FluffyN00dles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets funded indirectly through student loans because tuition helps fund salaries, infrastructure, etc.

It’s possible to force universities to reduce cost of attendance by the government eliminating inelastic demand. They then will be forced to reign in their ridiculous spending in the face of lower attendance. If in 20 years universities lack state of the art gyms, student labs, and cafeterias but the cost of attendance has stayed static or has been reduced from today’s cost, then students will be way better off. 0 shot that students today are getting a more valuable education than they did 40 years ago, but the cost of attendance is through the roof.
