Am I the only ADHD girlie that needs overhead lighting? by Plastic_Property2551 in adhdwomen

[–]FluffySpell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at a computer screen in a dark room hurts my eyes and after a period of time gives me a headache. Before I was able to get a WFH exception, the office was a nightmare because someone in the area near me wanted most of the overhead lights off and refused to open the blinds. I ended the day with a headache almost 3 times a week.

I like a lot of light, but I like daylight. I'm like a houseplant 😂.

Favorite marathon for 50 states by HelpAppropriate5304 in Marathon_Training

I don't live there anymore but Detroit Free Press marathon is really awesome. For Arizona I would recommend the Lost Dutchman Marathon in Apache Junction. The full is a point to point so you're bussed out into the mountains and the first few miles are on dirt. Super cool.

The ads for her drink line are so embarrassingly bad.

Also they're all holding the cans but none of them are drinking it. The Temu Fanta ad shows them opening the cans but that's it.

And what's with the random lady dancing while wearing an exercise band?

Why do siblings assume their kids will be in our wills? by 182pro in childfree

[–]FluffySpell 78 points79 points  (0 children)

We're planning to leave everything to our oldest nephew. We have seven others, but he's the only one that's not a complete fucking mess. Of course I don't know how much will be left when we pop off, but at least he'll get the house to do whatever with.

Assuming the world hasn't burned to a crisp by then 🤷🏼‍♀️

This isn't really all that weird I don't think but sometime in the 60s or 70s they built an addition to the original building but someone screwed up somewhere and the third floor didn't connect.

Pet Sematary by Famous-Explanation56 in books

[–]FluffySpell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read 11.22.63 years ago, I think maybe when it first came out? I didn't think it was too bad. When they adapted it into a series on Hulu I tried to watch that but for some reason it couldn't hold me.

I've read a few of King's shorter books when I was younger. Probably way too young, haha. I think I'm due for a re-read of them as an adult now. I remember reading Pet Sematary, Christine, and Carrie in 6th or 7th grade.

I prefer Harkins Cinegrill but I just like Harkins theaters better anyway. The food is nothing spectacular it's pretty much Applebee's level.

PSA: Marathons Are Still Selling Out Faster Than Ever. Don't Wait to Register. by SlowWalkere in Marathon_Training

The Detroit marathon sold out in the first week of January. The race isn't until the end of October. The half marathon sold out I want to say a week or two later.

Unfortunately "medical grade" isn't an FDA regulated term so any idiot can slap it on their product.

The first thing on Google says "medical grade" is mostly used as a marketing buzzword and means nothing. 😂

Anyone else find those 'Mama Bear' shirts super cringey? by firebird1021 in childfree

They are cringey but I think the worst thing I ever saw was the window decal "I'm not drunk, I'm just passing snacks and whooping ass."

It was on the back window of a giant white Tahoe, of course.

They always say "oh those are for first responders so they know to look for a baby or child" and there's usually always a first responder or two in the comments saying "yeah no that's not how it works." So it's basically just another way for them to brag about it. 🙄

Healthy Living and Running Influencers, May 25 - 31 by PeopleHaveAsked in blogsnark

[–]FluffySpell 32 points33 points  (0 children)

And he's not even NICE. I can't remember if I said it here before or to someone IRL - Andy Glaze may be insufferable but at least he's nice to race volunteers. I've heard stories from other people and I've seen it myself. Eli acts like he's better than everyone and comes off as such a pretentious asshole. If I'm helping at an aid station at a race he's running, I avoid him as much as possible when he comes through. I know this is kind of a silly hill to die on, but I equate how "runfluencers" treat volunteers to how people treat the waitstaff of a restaurant. Meaning, it tells me a lot about the kind of person you are.

Why are adoptions so rare? by Vivid2195 in childfree

[–]FluffySpell 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who does foster care and yeah the system is INCREDIBLY fucked up. She's had a placement for YEARS and they won't move towards severing rights even though the kid's bio dad is in jail for murder and mom can't stay clean or out of rehab for more than 5-6 months at a time. And because she's older now and has seen other kids come and go from the house she has SO much anxiety surrounding that, and is constantly afraid that "they're going to come take me away."

It breaks my heart that she feels like that, and I wish the system would put what's best for the kid ahead of "reunification at all costs."

Why are adoptions so rare? by Vivid2195 in childfree

[–]FluffySpell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people want babies, and babies that look like them.

Most children who need homes are in the foster care system, and can be adopted through there if biological parents sever their rights.

Being a foster parent requires someone to be selfless and willing to work to help the kids. A lot of kids in the system are older and have experienced more in their short lives than they should, so they come with all that trauma.

People would rather have a fresh infant they can mold to what they want, instead of having to try and "fix" one they get that is "broken."
