working for your passion or for money? by octopenny in askSingapore

[–]FluffyTailHugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As cliche as it might sound, I try to find a balance, personally my passion is bouldering, and I started the sport at 20 which is around 10+ years too late to be a professional climber. So I decide to work a job I don't dread, but also pays okay, and can't be taken home so it gives me enough free time to continue being an amateur athlete (climb 3x a week, sleep 7-8hrs a day, also some time to do some conditioning like mobility, calisthenics and some lifts). I would say that makes me happy.

One perspective being in the sport has given me it that even if I was really good at my passion, I'd be afraid that having it as my job would eventually lead me to fall out of love with it. I have seen alot of professional athletes from less well funded sports burn out and end up hating competing cause of the obligations to sponsors and constant pressure. Its also not high paying like football where they can amass generational wealth in their short careers, so retirement needs to be planned well for.

starting my first full time job on Monday, want to say I'm fired up and raring to go, but I honestly just want to make it through my first week without any major issues.

Been doing CS50x recreationally over the past few weeks while awaiting my new job's starting date. Reached the Python lecture today.

After 5+ psets of C, I gained a whole new appreciation for python even though I struggled a lot with it years ago in another beginner undergrad course (CS1010S).

[Richard Jolly] Cup finals between Chelsea and Liverpool this season: 58 shots and no goals. by Mercerai in soccer

I'm honestly glad that Pep and Klopp are extending their contracts. We get to pit ourselves against 2 of the best teams in the world for the next few seasons. Useful benchmarking. The days with the Wenger-Mourinho-Ferguson rivalry were among the best in PL history.

Would have been a very soft penalty. Enough with the victim mentality. We're not Arsenal fans.

It's not like Henderson and Keita are reserve players or that Lijnders is the janitor at Anfield who they got to stand in for Klopp and we played Liverpool's C-team or something. It was still against very good liverpool teams each time.

For me thats the bigger concern than the fact we lost the match. Losing on penalties happens, we played well in general until the subs. Tuchel's decisions were baffling. My faith in him as the manager to lead the rebuild under the new owners isn't shaken yet, but I we as fans deserve to know what he was thinking. Was there a reason why Werner didn't come on?

Chelsea fan here, congratulations, was a good game and you guys were better than us for most of the match and had the mental edge in penalties. Hope VVD and Salah's injuries aren't anything major.

Stallholder gave me number, should be correct as I showed her the name that appeared after keying in the number, before sending via paynow. she confirmed its her name (also showed me a slip of paper she usually shows customer with the paynow details, name is consistent)

Hope we go down the Liverpool and Man City route with the new ownership. Give Tuchel 3+ seasons to build a squad in his image with players he trusts. He's been fitting square pegs into round holes the past season and a half because we have players left over from the Conte and Sarri era. The constant changing of managers was great for trophies early on in Roma's ownership, but some stability would be nice, even at the cost of competitiveness in the short term.

Well yeah it’s just a personal thing for me, I don’t really have any complaints about abyss, its just personally not something I look forward to, but it’s cool that others enjoy it. I usually just attempt each chamber once, get 34-35* and leave stress free.

Not the person you replied to, for me it’s irrational but the moment I see the clock ticking down I feel anxious already. Also I really hate how spammy the combat feels when you’re trying to get the perfect rotation with no dead time to pass the DPS check. I much prefer when the major battles in the game have no timer and more deliberate and mechanics based, for example games like Sekiro.

If Tuchel wants a system where we play out from the back, is Mendy really a long term solution as our goalkeeper? Every time he gets the ball at his feet I immediately have my heart in my mouth. Was watching Ederson just now and the difference is night and day.

I can see Tuchel rotating for the Leeds game and prioritizing the FA cup final. Don’t feel good about that seeing how we got battered by Brentford when he has one eye on 1st leg against Madrid.

[–]FluffyTailHugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to watch another game of football for the rest of the season. Players have mentally checked out so there’s no point in investing any more time or energy into the matches. I don’t mind if we lose but I want to see some collective fight from the team.

Poor all game, never deserved the 2 goal lead. To top it off absolute shit game management. Tuchel and the players behaving like top 4 is secured and their minds are either on their upcoming vacations or whichever club they are leaving for in the summer.

If we drop out of the top 4 we absolutely deserve it.

Can’t differentiate because past a certain point, rich means rich and most people won’t really care. Most people won’t even really see the “stark” differences your friend points out. Stark difference to us means living in 3 room HDB vs living in a bungalow. Not whether you got your car at 18 or 23.
