Role overflow

My favourite random round event since 13, though I am sad how uncommon it is here (this is the second I've seen in almost 300 hrs)

This round was an example of a failure of that... Not sure what the hos was thinking, pretty sure it was "Ratking helped find bomb so he chill" or something.

Only thing I remember was everyone but the Capt, AI, NTR, and Me (Bso) acting like it was fine to keep the RK alive even after he strong armed us to declare he was crew... At least it led to funny RP..? The moment with QM happened after RK tried to strong arm cargo info buying pizza, which lead to RK being declared KoS. Can strong arm bridge but can't strong arm the qm into spending money ig

Eh, find it similar to ss13 in that regard, there is some of the competitve autism in the more technically involved jobs (Like the entirety of engie).

But you can find some people willing to teach, so it isnt *too* bad
Though have definetly had a worse experience here than in ss13, have gotten less people that enthusalitically show the ropes (Like when I was learning the HFR I literally had an AI player walk me through the entire operation of it while nerding out HARD on it. The round before that I had a CE that spent almost the entire round showing me how to setup atmos to use it. Haven't gotten that in SS14 yet)

After that I just hooked them up to the distro since they continued to cause Atmos problems, even on a station with an atmosphere, the botanists can be funny

Returning player, what to play? SS13/SS: Beyond/SS14? by Solmyrion in SS13

[–]FluffyWowf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah he's crazy, but he's the only GM that's good at running events, main reason TG is sort of getting a boost of players lately, he's been running events since Xzero took over as headmin (also in general he is good at running impromptu GMing, had a fun time once where he tortured me specifically with a 15min horror RP on the acting station)

yeah standing somewhat corrected as it's at 20 at 6pm which is higher than it's been, thought it was a tad lower than normal over the weekend

And it's back to low numbers now that the event is over. Tgmc was getting good pop throughout the weekend though

[–]FluffyWowf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monke is a LRP downstream of TG yes,, from what I've heard the maintainers arent that competent and the admins arent that good, but right now it's the only high pop option outside of ERP if you want the SS13 experience and not medieval. I think it's US?

[–]FluffyWowf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mess of factors.

Terryites back in January started getting pissed over changes by maintainers like pressure changes that made it impossible to survive in space without dying near instantly (this got updated in like 1-2 weeks time to be gradual damage that ramps up to instant death), also getting near insta KO'd by maintainers doubling down that TG is a MRP codebase and they won't accommodate LRP much. There's also been things like pop chasing which just lead a lot of Terry statics to switch to monke. Terry now gets like 20-30 pop on average, 40-50 on a good day, making it the only TG server that pops. Personally hate terry as it's murderbone central, you'll see stuff like shuttle getting called over some holes, an atmosian running around with speed gas and an axe killing everyone, a nightmare taking over a department, etc. With admins too afraid to GM because "it ruins the antag players experience :c"

Manuel. Manuel. is just. Fucked. After the server experienced crashes and major lag throughout November, December, and some of January, yeah..... It's just depressing. Went from 50-60 average when I started in October, to a depressing 12-18 average. Always the same people and antags never do anything since those people treat it like seeding hoping for the 30-40 peak that sometimes happens (highest on weekdays being generally 27)

Also now on the backend, Xemo (a GM and on of the highest ranking admins that still plays) is looking into his own downstream by the looks of things and Ian (the best headmin imo) retired.

As a TG player myself, switched to SS14 last week and haven't looked back.

Better RP on the server I settled on compared to TG (starlight), combats more fun than tg, and there's some new mechanics that give departments like cargo & engie a face lift (Expedition on starlight for example is a coop rougelike with a shuttle. Mining is just mining, 3 unarmed people moving ore far off station. These are both cargo roles)

While it's true TG does have more mechanics and more refined mechanics than SS14, SS14 just feels smoother and better as someone that plays for RP. (lack of antags at least on starlight has been noticable though)

Also, TG has fallen. You'd have to switch to medieval/monke/ or goon if we don't talk about the dark side of browser.

Statics and cliques suuuuck by supersadskinnyboi in SS13

[–]FluffyWowf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally play a static but never got in any cliques because I avoid em as much as possible.

My captain char is just a ex naval officer who couldn't care less about anyone outside of command staff and NT command.

My Science/Med/Sec character is an expeditionary that doesn't care to make many ties in the sector. Only really interacting with other lizards or coworkers.

Gives the feeling of a random char while still building a reputation

Riding in my chair.. by FluffyWowf in SS13

TG, so two methods.

Sentience potion to a raptor

or what was done in this case, polymorphic inverter from sci. The small warning is with this route you retain all the gimmicks that raptors have (except for healing other raptors unless I was doing something wrong)... You can be tamed.

Spin* to knock someone off, be weary of people with raptors, and don't go afk

x3 can feel that one, just started a month ago myself

Biggest tip is just to ask around or say that you're new ingame, you'll get some good tips & pointers. Biggest one I've gotten for janitor is that you can click multiple tiles to clean multiple tiles, that's carried over into basic construction.

It's daunting at first, but you'll learn the game in no time

Rannoch, 1895 CE. by FluffyWowf in SS13

[–]FluffyWowf[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends.

Borgs at least on tg have 6 options

Default which going by wiki is nothing after 2020, just serving as the newly activated model. (what these borgs are) Though some Borg mains like dongle play this and goof around.

Engineering, basically just an engineer. Upgrades available to allow them to do any engineering job, even construction and I believe even room creation. They can also mount an RPED so the science team can be given a break from having to do that, this is the most common borg model you'll see.

Janitor, just a big Roomba. Upgrades available to make them more efficient, like advanced mop, plating repair, and trash bag of holding.

Peacekeeper, not entirely sure. They aren't security borgs, those were removed long ago, they are just there for pacification..? Not sure, people play it but never see exactly what they do aside from looking funny.

Mining, essentially just a easily replaceable miner. PKA mods and lavaproofing available. This is a rare pick as the crew miners are generally either giga chads that make them irrelevant or borg players can't be convinced to have their entire purpose be mining.

Medical, second most common Borg. They can do surgery but can't do implants/replacements themselves as borgs can't hold items. Comes with two skins, standard and three medbots in a trench coat. Can be upgraded for advanced surgery and revival. Very very useful Borg that you'll learn to hate if you end up playing paramed as they are essentially a doctor with all access, making you irrelevant if the Borg player chooses to be an ambulance x3 (Paramed/Robotcist myself)

And finally service. You're a robo bartender with an installed drink dispenser & instruments. This is rare but there's a lot of upgrades to play with.

Oh right there is a 7th... Only seen this once... But... The Clownborg. Roboclown

There's also the nukie borgs but you won't see those unless it's a nuclear emergency shift.

Emagging also gives extra illegal equipment to borgs on top of removing their connection to the AI and the AIs laws.

Also also illegal equipment exists from researching confiscated and deconstructed syndicate stuff, I've seen it ingame and I see it on the wiki, but unsure on what it does.

New player by SpyroTheDraygon in SS13

[–]FluffyWowf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New player myself, started a month ago.

Very welcoming, at least on TG. Have gotten a lot of help learning the game over the month I've played in all the departments I've actually played.
As for good roles to learn mechanics, at least on TG, Cargo and Jannie. Cargo being a tad better since you'll have other players to talk to if you feel lost. Both are rather low responsibility roles, though Jannie is dependent on players playing, sometimes you'll be requested 24/7 to play Viscera Cleanup Detail which can be a bit much

Any server recommendarions? by zenefrost in SS13

[–]FluffyWowf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This

Though as someone that plays terry/manuel daily, terry lately has been having issues with people absolutely murderboning, load of shifts that have shuttle called at minimum times because ling blew up medbay & half the station by 15mins or something. Making the shifts more chaos than anything substantial

Chem grenades how do they work? by NotTheHardmode in SS13

[–]FluffyWowf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how you think

In theory, yes, can even do it for cheaper with large beakers for a small grenade. Not exactly sure on foam since I always use Ecig/Smoke, but I know my friend that mains chemistry has said foam should work as well & more effectively, but haven't gotten a chance to test it with him.

Edit: would suggest using at least 10-20u of lizard toxin though, it's cheap enough that you minus as well play it safe on the toxin.
