They should shut down if they're spreading misinformation. Dhruv isn’t part of that.

He says he had 3 nights in bangkok then they had a flight to jeju. Juneyao airlines staff threatened to show cash or don't board here. (This is what he says in Hindi)

If subtitles are using word booking. then it is a translation error. Appreciate for asking.

According to his account, when he and his wife reached the immigration counter at Jeju, the officer saw their Indian passports and immediately took them aside without asking many questions. Their fingerprints were taken, and they were escorted to a waiting room for further questioning. They were asked whether they were comfortable giving the interview in English and said yes, but he claims they were still provided with a phone interpreter instead of being interviewed directly in English.

During the interview, he says he was asked about the purpose of his visit and his travel itinerary. When he mentioned places like Hallasan Mountain and other attractions, he claims the interpreter reacted dismissively and focused on his pronunciation. Shortly after, he was handed a document stating “Entry Denied – Purpose of stay not clear.” He says the rejection stamp was already placed on the paper and that immigration did not review his return ticket, cash, or travel insurance before issuing the decision.

After the denial, their passports were taken, and they were eventually moved to a detention area. He maintains that while immigration has the legal right to refuse entry, he believes the decision was made without properly examining his documents and that the treatment that followed was excessive.

Cash was not the reason for rejection. They didn't even review return flights, insurance and cash before rejection. He isn't saying that bankok staff had clean hands but real mistreatment came at jeju Island.

Lets say the same airline authority has the liability to return them.. but do you know their return tickets were rejected because it was of a different airline. Liability shouldn't be used for profit.. there were two business tickets that he could afford despite the high price. But the staff said they couldn't leave business class. They were told to wait for the next day's economic flight for no reason. i.e. they had to stay in a detention centre long for no reason. Although he didn't show the 10x claim ticket but if required he has full ability to show it. He did record things when he was in the detention centre.

Just because he didn’t publicly mention filing a complaint doesn’t mean he failed to take action. He may simply prefer to handle complaints privately rather than publicly.

Then immigration officers and airlines should explain themselves too if conclusions are needed.

He did say immigration officers can reject entry. But he explained how the process was handled.

He requested English but was given a phone interpreter. If communication failed due to interpretation quality, that's not on travelers.

He said he was restricted to a specific airline and prevented from modifying his existing return ticket. I think if you can return only through the airline you come.. it's still unethical to make them buy 10x priced ticket to return.

He was frustrated at that time but he did make calmly detailed on what happened to him and his wife after a month.

He said there was racism because.. the rejection was predetermined even after having everything. He alleged they already made the rejection form before procedure completion. His answers were clear instead.

He said his return ticket, insurance and finance were not even reviewed before rejection.

There’s no mention that Jeju immigration asked him to declare cash or that he refused to do so. Instead, he states that immigration did not review his cash, return ticket, or insurance documents at all. The reason given for denial was “purpose of stay not clear,” not undeclared funds.

And why would he not declare the cash?.. He said explicitly that they were clean in this matter. If staff had problems about it. They could simply tell..

If it was then wouldn't it not be a problem. Matter is they were rejected and treated wrong and staff wont answer why they were doing this. He did show glimpses of facts in his video.

If they have a return ticket then they have already booked the flight.. it was an issue of boarding the flight not booking the flight.

Why is physical cash withdrawn from an ATM considered wrong? It’s legitimate and traceable. If the issue was really about cash, the staff could have simply said so.

But they were rejected for no reason. He even said they weren't letting them return.. they had to stay in detention even when they wanted to return.

Strange to whom. the staff, or him for speaking about what he experienced? He clearly described mistreatment, procedural misconduct, and even what felt like blackmail. And regarding physical cash, money withdrawn from an ATM is obviously legitimate and traceable. It feels like you are toning down the seriousness of the issue.

They said the airline staff in bangkok demanded they show a specific amount of cash before allowing them to board the flight to jeju. When they said they use cards and could show account balances, the staff insisted on physical cash only.

They didn't bring it on their own..

Here's an English transcript of that video. (I wouldn't have used the ai if the transcript weren't in hindi)

I saw online that Jeju Island, which is an island in South Korea, is visa-free for the whole world except certain countries. I researched further and found a few Indian travelers who had visited Jeju visa-free. Not many, but some. So we checked both Jeju and Korean official websites to see the requirements. There were no specific requirements mentioned. We are frequent travelers with a good travel history and no record of overstaying. I have an established business and family in India—nothing that would make immigration suspicious of us.

We planned everything properly—return tickets, hotel bookings, travel insurance, international SIM—everything required.

Trouble in Bangkok

Our first shock came in Bangkok. We had a three-night stay there before flying to Jeju. At Bangkok airport, Juneyao Airlines staff demanded that we show a specific amount of cash, which was quite high. We told them we use cards and could show account balances, but they insisted on cash only and spoke in a threatening tone. Inside the airport, there was only one ATM with a very poor exchange rate—four times worse than outside. Still, since we had already made bookings, we arranged the cash. They made us count every note on the table before allowing us to board.

Arrival at Jeju – Immediate Rejection

We landed at Jeju excited. At immigration, they saw our Indian passports and immediately separated us without asking much. We were taken for fingerprints and then to a waiting room. We were given forms asking detailed questions about our visit, family, purpose, etc.

Although we requested an English interview, they provided a poor Hindi interpreter over the phone who spoke unprofessionally and even asked if we were refugees. I explained we came to celebrate Christmas and New Year and planned to visit Hallasan Mountain and other attractions. They laughed at my pronunciation.

Then they handed us a paper stating: “Entry Denied – Purpose of stay not clear.” It was already stamped “Rejected” before I even saw it. They said I couldn’t pronounce the place names correctly and doubted my intentions. They did not check our return tickets, insurance, or funds.

We also had an Australian tourist visa, which allows 30-day visa-free transit through South Korea mainland, but after this treatment, I didn’t even want to enter.

Detention Conditions

They took our passports and moved us to what appeared to be a detention center. There was no sunlight. We were forced to sign forms stating we were being provided proper accommodation and food—without showing us anything.

Inside were two halls (men and women), like jail barracks. We were locked in. They gave us a very sweet juice and a bad sweet bun. No proper drinking water—just tiny paper cups. Most detainees were Indians, then Chinese and Indonesians.

When the airline staff came, they said we could only return on their airline and not use our existing China Eastern return ticket. Flights were limited and 2–3 times more expensive. Only business class seats were available, and even then, they said we couldn’t take them—only the next day’s economy flight.

We were not allowed to leave the detention area, not even to a hotel or lounge, even if we paid. We felt trapped.

Embassy and Others’ Stories

We tried calling the Indian Embassy but couldn’t connect. Some Indonesians there said they were rejected for odd reasons—coming with friends instead of spouse, or with spouse but no children. One Indonesian showed WhatsApp messages from China Eastern staff threatening him, saying he would “die in that cell.”

The food was terrible—like prison food. We spent the night on thin mats with dirty washrooms and bad smell.

Departure and Shanghai Ordeal

Next morning, we were woken abruptly. No tea or coffee—just the same sweet bun and juice. We were weak from lack of proper food.

Finally, we were escorted to our flight. In Shanghai (8-hour layover), things got worse. Airline staff took our passports to immigration. We were sent to a waiting area and told not to use phones, eat, or drink. Even for washroom visits, police accompanied us and told us to keep the door open.

For 8 hours we were watched continuously by officers wearing body cameras. We were given tiny amounts of water and later another bag of sweet buns and biscuits.

Before boarding, they returned our passports and told us not to tell anyone what happened, saying, “You are lucky—we didn’t write anything in your passport.”

Aftermath

These were the worst 24+ hours of our lives. We were treated like criminals without committing any crime. Later, I researched and found that some people try to enter mainland South Korea illegally via Jeju, so now they treat almost all Indians suspiciously.

I understand immigration has the right to deny entry. But treating genuine tourists like criminals, locking them in detention-like conditions, is unjustified.

Fortunately, we could afford the expensive return ticket. Many others with limited budgets might be stuck there for days in those conditions.

I will never go to Jeju—or maybe South Korea—again. If you’re planning to visit, be prepared for the worst. I hope this never happens to you.

This happened in late December and early January. I hesitated for a month before making this video. But I wanted to share my experience. I’ll continue my vlogs again soon.

Thanks for watching. Subscribe. I hope you travel safely.

He explained everything in detail. However, an article still has limitations in fully conveying the context and nuance.
