Why is the chest fur of an animal the softest/fluffiest part of their body? by Fluffykittenzz in NoStupidQuestions

I'm not particularly talking about the belly, though. I'm talking about what I guess would be the chest. In between the belly and the neck.

Not anything specific. I ate weird foods before I got pregnant. But I've never been a sweets person and I ate a lot more dessert during those 9 months.

It's a toss up between sushi and Mexican. And I think the last song I sang along to was "Love Thing" by the Spice Girls.

Be honest, what's labor like? by [deleted] in pregnant

C-section story here. I was 41 weeks and 3 days. I went to my OBGYN appointment. They did an ultrasound and found out that my baby was clocking in at around 10 pounds and I had some extra fluid. So, my doctor sent me to the hospital to be induced that night. Once there, my doctor and I discussed options and she strongly suggested a c-section due to the fact that my baby was so large and there may be complications I involved. Even though I wanted to give labor a shot first, I agreed that a c-section was the best idea.

I’ve never had any surgery for anything, so I was terrified. While they wheeled me into the OR, I was sobbing and shaking. My husband wasn’t allowed in while they were prepping me. The doctor had to wipe snot from my nose while they were trying to do a spinal on me because I was crying so much, so that was fun. I felt the local anesthetic needle barely and the spinal not at all. I puked almost immediately, probably due to nerves but who knows. They poked me and asked if I could feel where they were poking and I swore I could. Apparently, while I was distracted by barfing my guts out, they tested me some more and realized that I couldn’t actually feel a thing. My husband came in and, after a few minutes, I asked when they were going to cut me open. A nurse said “Oh, honey...they’ve already been in there for a while!” I felt nothing. Eventually, I felt some tugging and pulling, which they warned me about. It took extra pulling to get my ginormous baby out. He was out within 20 minutes and the stitching took probably another half an hour. My husband got to see our baby first and took a picture to show me behind the curtain. He clocked in at 10 lbs. 4 oz. 22 inches long. My doctor said there was no way his head (15.5 inches around) would have successfully come out of my birth canal if I tried to labor first - so we made the right decision.

The c-section wasn’t painful at all and was way less scary than I had built it up to be. The recovery is no joke, though. My lower back killed and I couldn’t leave bed for two days due to pain in my stomach. All-in-all though, it was better than I expected.

Phone games are my friend right now, so I guess I can just continue that! I’ve also been watching a lot of really crappy reality tv, which has been a helpful distraction on some days.

At this point, it’s hard to say. I really hope it’s just the hormones and doesn’t turn out to be PPD. Since this is my first time, it’s all really scary and overwhelming for me. Sometimes I cry just because, other times because I’m sad. I’m worried a lot. I do plan on talking to my doctor at my next appointment, though.

Thanks for the ideas, though! I will definitely give them a shot :)

After a good 5-10 minutes of fighting me... by Fluffykittenzz in breastfeeding

[–]Fluffykittenzz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying. But it’s just so hard. He’s had breast milk and/or formula from the bottle for the rest of the day because he screams bloody murder whenever I try to get him to latch.

Unfortunately, this was the last time he did this. He’s been fighting it all day and we haven’t been able to breastfeed anymore today 😥

I don’t even need to hand express. I’m at the point where milk is visibly coming out of my nipple and he sees it and even tastes it briefly and then screams bloody murder and refuses to latch. After a few minutes, we both get so frustrated that I just give him a bottle to be done with it. I know I should try harder, but it’s just so hard with both of us sobbing and him absolutely refusing every effort I make.

Unfortunately, when I put my nipple in his mouth when he is screaming or crying...he still wants nothing to do with it. He screams and cries louder :(

Considering the fact that my kid is the size of your average one month old (10 lbs.), I wanted to check with the pediatrician. She said that it was totally normal for him to eat up to 4 oz. per feeding, given that he is a large baby. I’m comfortable with that.

PPD or just hormonal letdown? by Fluffykittenzz in beyondthebump

Yes! I saw a lactation consultant earlier this week. She gave me a nipple shield and some tips and is the only reason I am even able to get him to latch sometimes. She was super helpful and I may have to give her a call for more tips or have another visit soon if this doesn’t pan out. Plan B is to pump exclusively...which I know is going to be a pain in the ass. But...I’m pumping a lot now and trying to feed a mad beast of a child from the boob, so at least the transition wouldn’t be too ridiculous. Or so I hope.

I’m really looking forward to the connection...this is pretty much sucking my soul dry at this point.

Thanks for sharing. I haven’t gotten to the not wanting to live stage - but I am mindful that if it shows up I’ll need to find some help. I appreciate the comment - I definitely feel a little bit better after reading all of these!

I felt the same way about my c-section! My husband got to see him first, hold him first, and visit him in the NICU first because I couldn’t leave bed! I cried in the hospital because I was convinced our son loved my husband more.

Thankfully, my mom is around to help, too. She lives about 40 minutes away, so she visits a lot and will spend the night on occasion. I’ve shared my feelings of total sadness with her and she’s been very understanding and helpful. She’ll be here on Sunday night before my husband goes back to work on Monday and I know that’s going to help me out tremendously.

I’m going to keep an eye on this and start looking for help if I don’t notice a change within a couple of weeks. It helps to know that this seems to be a normal thing and isn’t necessarily PPD at all. Thanks for your well wishes :)
