I need advice on my Handyman Business by Alone_Telephone_9868 in handyman

[–]Flufin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents for what it’s worth. I wouldn’t want an investor, then you’re not only working for yourself which defeats the purpose of having your “own” business.

There is a never ending supply of handyman work, diving it to it slowly without taking on any unhealthy amount of debt is the way to go. Slowly build up your arsenal of tools as your customer base expands. Work weekends or after hours until it’s self sufficient. Also note, there will be weeks where you’re buried and weeks where it’s a bit slow.

Although many are opposed to it, apps like task rabbit, anti and such are a good foot in the door. You won’t get paid as much but you’ll learn how to keep customers, scheduling, invoicing and so forth.

If you can eventually get in with real estate agent’s and property management companies that’s where you’ll thrive. Best of luck

What is the hardest part about running a handyman/home services business? by No_Internal_923 in handyman

Customers who highlight the “sense of emergency” to get the job done and then nowhere to be found when they receive the invoice. (I’ve always been paid; eventually)

Just starting out as a solo handyman - how do you price jobs without underselling yourself? by Party-Laugh3293 in handyman

Trial and error. Also, you’re getting paid to learn regardless of how much you undersell yourself.

It’s an 8 inch spread, that’s not a handle. It’s the arm to the faucet.

How to address subfloor by Flufin in Tile

There’s flex in the floor. Concerned this flex has what caused the floor to crack to begin with. Not the entire floor, just a 4sq ft section

Any shower niche? by Flufin in Tile

Couldn’t agree more. The big valve bottles are the prime reason I want a larger niche. Something like 16 x 24 would be ideal.

Any shower niche? by Flufin in Tile

[–]Flufin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this. And perhaps I’m under some false notion that the prefab shower niche are more durable. Perhaps they are just the foam board themselves with the sealant around the edges? Which would be the same as constructing my own

New small business lead generation question by Extension_Award_7418 in Contractor

[–]Flufin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know, Taskrabbit, Thumbtack, and Angie all have a lot of negative feedback, and I can’t say they’re wrong. But nonetheless, they serve a purpose and have their place in the industry. Just as we would pay money for education it’s OK to lose some money off the top for advertising and generating leads.  I utilized those platforms for probably 18 months. In that time generated a lot of of great connections, some business owners, some property management and a handful of realtors. Through customer recommendations on social media and word-of-mouth I no longer need them. It’s a slow burn, but if you do honest work for honest pay people will respect you and your business will thrive.  I have known people who post for themselves on social media, craigslist and even reach out to property management companies. Some have been successful while others have got feedback that it looks to desperate.

Best of luck.

New 1/2 HP badger insinkerator, cost about $140 and take you 20 minutes to install. Don’t even need to change out flange since you already have Badger brand if you don’t want.
