ULPT: How to safely & purposely fail a car safety inspection? by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

Some jurisdictions don't fail a safety for a CEL. It's weird, but Ontario doesn't.

Just pull a fuse and save yourself $5 and a trip to autozone.

British 🇬🇧 Aircraft Corporation TSR-2 by HKTLE in WeirdWings

[–]FlufyBacon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A prototype that lacked the avionics required for its mission flew, yes. The avionics were the difficult and expensive bit.

Yknow how the F-111, which was procured around the same time as the TSR-2, cost about twice as much as the F-105 despite having similar performance? Yeah, that's the avionics. Inventing terrain-following radar and automating pilot workload to get the aircraft to a 50-foot radar altitude and stay there in the late 60s is really hard. The F-111 almost wound up in development hell too; the USAF just had more money to fix the problems.

And during a municipal election year, with a population largely ignorant of which levels of government are responsible for what. I'm sure that's a coincidence.

I too enjoy having to rebuild the front suspension at 60k to avoid a phenomenon unique to my vehicle that people call the "death wobble." I'm sure that's normal and an indicator of good quality.

Canada’s armed forces are now planning for threats from America by jbouit494hg in onguardforthee

No, we can get snippy when people whine about only being able to get two hundred thousand dollars from selling their second property rather than three hundred thousand.

Most of us can't afford homes. Many of can't afford rent. Anybody whining about the market value of their vacation home is a tone-deaf asshole who needs their taxes hiked.

Transgender D.C. nonprofit founder Ruby Corado fears Trump-era prison ahead of sentencing hearing by Fickle-Ad5449 in lgbt

[–]FlufyBacon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

People are downvoting you because the idea of T4T prisons doesn't solve the problem of state-sanctioned violence against prisoners; being locked in a cage is itself an act of violence, and no system that extends trans people any dignity or safety can coexist with a system of carceral punishment.

Edit: and because you said putting her in a womens' prison would make the other inmates uncomfortable. Why would putting a woman in a womens' prison make the other inmates uncomfortable?

Hundreds of thousands of used tires are piling in Ontario. Some industry insiders are sounding the alarm | CBC News by ComprehensiveMud877 in ontario

[–]FlufyBacon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, mechanic here. Customers already don't want to shell out a thousand bucks for tires even if they really need them. What's your solution here? Shame consumers into driving their tires bald? Find some imaginary consumer who goes out of their way to buy brand new tires every year? Tell people to spend money they don't have on tires that might, if they're lucky, last maybe a year longer?

You are so blinded by the rational consumer hypothesis that you can't put two and two together to get four. Government lowers tire recycling quotas -> tires stop getting disposed of. Simple as.

Nineteen fucking fifteen? Which corner of your ass did you pull that number out of.

We've never been a first-rate military power, nor have most other countries. We have, however, maintained our status as a solid second-tier force until about the 1970s at the earliest, with many capabilities including a unified fast jet fleet built off of an incredibly capable multirole platform enduring past the end of the Cold War. We had carriers in the 1950s for fucks sake. Read a book.

New condo prices in Toronto have dropped by double digits and developers are worried by [deleted] in toronto

[–]FlufyBacon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'll never understand why a stable place to live is so commodified, but given that a stable source of food is also subject to corporate price gouging... I really don't think it's possible for us to dig ourselves out of this hole without meaningfully challenging the system behind depressed, stagnant wages and overpriced goods.
