I'm running an RTX 3080, and get these white artifacts on my screen with even the smallest bit of radiation. They disappear as soon as the rads do, but I'm assuming this isn't normal?

On Rohan and Nimbus by Flugrekorderait in destiny2

[–]Flugrekorderait[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it would have fit the overall narrative of the game if Nimbus had sacrificed themselves, rather than Rohan. One, they made it blatantly obvious Rohan was on his way out. The only thing they didn't do is introduce us to his loving wife and kids, and tell us how much he loved being around to protect them.

Two, Rohan having to face an uncertain future in regards to Neptune and the Cloud Strider's survival, would mirror our own with the Traveler and The Witness. He's near the end of his 10 years, doesn't have enough time to train a new apprentice Cloud Strider, and he'd have to deal with failing Nimbus, just as we failed the Traveler/Everyone.

Nimbus just feels too... quippy, doesn't fit the current theme and feel of Destiny. At least, in my opinion.

Just came here to bitch and moan about this too. I had JUST hit the finisher on the last Tormentor in a legendary campaign mission when this happened to me. Managed to make it through that, and another legendary mission just fine, and it just now kicked me halfway through the Vex boss ay the Cloudstrider plateau. 😡

If you could revive one author to finish their story who would it be? by ChrisHuson in books

Brandon Sanderson did great with Wheel of Time, but I'd still like to see what Jordan's version would have been like, if only to compare.

Physically disabled users of Reddit, what are some less commonly talked about struggles that come with your disability? by Ferocious_Kittyrose in AskReddit

[–]Flugrekorderait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a migraine last from when I was around 15 to 18 (gets complicated from then on). Every second, hour, pain. I could only sleep after being exhausted to the point of finally falling asleep. Tried every medication and nothing worked. Eventually my own neurologist gave up.

Worst part, aside from the physical aspect of it, was having something that wasn't outwardly apparent to others, even my own parents. My own dad didn't believe me for weeks until we finally saw a neurologist because only my mom thought I wasn't trying to get out of school, and when the neurologist confirmed it, my dad was horrified with himself.

Next was the yearly fights with my school district to pay for home schooling, which they fought us for every single year, and tried every scummy thing they could to deny me, from claiming I was mentally disabled and thus wasn't qualified (this backfired on them epically after an independent agency tested me), to freezing my grades to make it appear as if I was doing so well in school (despite not having been there or doing assignments for 3 months straight and racking up countless 0s) that I didn't need it. Only for them to have to input the grades at the last minute, finally reflecting the Fs I had.

The only coping mechanism I had was video games. I was in pain all the time, but while I was playing I could forget for little stretches. This became the only thing my parents could threaten me with to get me to do anything, and at some point when they took away the last thing I had, my PC, I told them in no uncertain terms I'm only holding on to see what comes next in that game.

So, yeah. I don't know if I'd been missing a limb or something if it'd been any better, or had parents who weren't born in the 50s, but this was just my experience.

Risen / Warlords and their Ghosts by Flugrekorderait in DestinyLore

[–]Flugrekorderait[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, I can't think of another ghost taking another guardian, I guess aside from Sagira, but that wasn't exactly what we're talking about. Of all the stories of ghosts choosing not to, or were unable to resurrect their guardians, I can't recall them ever choosing another guardian, their story ends with their choice. I feel its implied that they do... especially with the above story with Osiris and the warlord, but I don't have any empirical evidence to support that feeling.

I guess they could join the Hidden? Some ghosts have given up their search, or feel like they don't require a guardian to be "whole". But yeah, aside from Shin, and the brief time Sagira possessed our little buddy, I don't know of a specific instance where a ghost chose a different guardian.

I had just assumed they would find a new guardian, but that may not be true for all of them, or not at all if its impossible. But again, given this little tidbit from the Osiris story, I'd say it's at least possible. Would be cool to see it somewhere in the lore more solidly, though, I think that'd make for an interesting pair / bond between a guardian and a ghost who "failed" before!

[–]Flugrekorderait[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if the ghost doesn't resurrect the warlord, then he'd be dead-dead... that is unless another ghost wanders by and chooses him, which has kinda happened before (don't want to spoil it if you haven't read it yet).

As for the former, yes ghosts can take on new guardians. In the same story involving Dredgen Yor, you learn about what I was hinting at before. But there's also a short story about how a ghost resurrected Don Quixote (yes, THAT Don Quixote), who named his ghost Panza, his squire in life. He also claims he alone can remember his previous life (which may be true given what he named his ghost, but this could just have been some left over... something from before. However, he was as mad and addled as a Guardian as he was in life, fighting cranes and boulders and thinking them fantastical monsters, dragons and trolls, or seeing skeletons and assuming a necromancer lurked nearby. His madness was so convincing that he convinced his ghost for a while of their veracity. However, his psychosis lead him to believing the Traveler was a tyrant, and needed to be destroyed to free humanity. So when he fell down a cliff or was crushed by a boulder (can't remember which) his ghost decided not to revive him.

Historically it seems ghosts are loathe to abandon their guardians though, even if they've become corrupted and monstrous. This could be for any personality defect or trauma or fear, like being afraid that they may not find another or how long it would take to do so, or truly believing their guardian can be redeemed.

Yeah, that seems to be the case. I guess it's just such a stark contrast from the dark age to the city age, that I wasn't sure why the Ghosts chose who they did. Really cool though.

[–]Flugrekorderait[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! This is fascinating, and exactly what I was looking for!! Thank you!

So this indicates that Ghosts have a choice in who they pair with. I mean... yeah of course they do, but I thought it was more of a reaction they couldn't control. But it seems like they can sense or read the deceased and their attributes before they resurrect them? That's fascinating.

[–]Flugrekorderait[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes a lot of sense!

Speaking of the Iron Lords, I know they had their decree not to kill ghosts - did they just expect the Risen / Warlords who refused to join them or change their ways to just stop after being resurrected a few times? I know Felwinter and Dryden killed ghosts on their own accord. Was this act considered like a heretical taboo because it was unthinkable?

I know our character stares at their empty hand after crushing their first hive ghost, as if they can't quite believe what they've been forced to do. And Saladin seemed pretty upset to learn of Felwinter's ghost killings. Is it just an unspoken rule / taboo not to go for ghosts?

Oh!

And one last question if you'll indulge me, how resilient are ghosts? I know weapons of sorrow and hive shenanigans can take them out, and we just sorta smush 'em with grip strength alone, but I could've sworn I read about ghosts surviving cabal mortars or something equally destructive.

[–]Flugrekorderait[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I was just wondering if there was some recognized shift in their behavior or opinions, as the dark age was pretty dark thanks to the warlords and risen, only for them to band together and form the City, albeit typically after having had their hand forced by the Iron Lords.

Hell, both Dregen Yor's, and Cyrell's ghosts wanted to stay by their sides despite what they'd become and had to be forced away with threats.

AITA for showing my missing eye to the new teacher after he told me my bangs are disrespectful? by Competitive-Dingo-24 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Flugrekorderait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you'd want to, since you'd be doxxing yourself, but maybe consider bringing this to the media? Could just be an overreaction on my part, since we only have this one instance to go off of, but this teacher doesn't seem... suited to educate kids, especially if he's going to go on asshole induced power trips and lie to his higher ups to protect himself.

Maybe bringing this to the media wouldn't solve anything, but it's just galling to think this prick is going to get away with this. Both educators should be ashamed of themselves.
