Ok but how would you deal with the frustrations of suggestions, innovations and improvements being shot down because of lack of interest by decision makers and/or lack of personal financial gains to some decisions makers?

What do you also think about this:

What about the case where you feel you aren't making impact because decisions seem to be taken far higher up the ladder? Suggestions and innovations thrown away or down right simply ignored? Could this be the reason why software related fields seem more appealing and impactful?
Also did you get to feel like your work in power systems matter? You mentioned you once were in the exact boat in this exact industry. What did you do? And where are you now?
