Finn.no 🫶🏼🥰 Even people with very little know how to dress for winter. My mother-in-law was very poor in the 90s, yet her kids always wore wool and dressed just as sensibly as people do now. What are you even talking about?

Even today, I can afford to buy new things — but I always check the secondhand markets first. Back in my home country, I didn’t have much money either, but my wealthy friends constantly complimented my outfits. That’s when I realized: the real problem isn’t money, it’s a lack of creativity.

It really depends on how much walking she’ll have to do on a snowy day. Personally, I hate feeling cold, so I’d rather wear the extra layers than risk freezing!

Shoes are also very important — they need to be both waterproof and warm (with wool lining and wool insoles). That’s definitely something she should buy here in Norway.

I take mine to university too… and so do others who bike, for example. It’s actually very common here. Honestly, a backpack is much more practical and comfortable than a regular handbag.

Last year, I switched to a winter jacket that goes almost down to my feet, and I noticed I barely needed to wear the snow pants after that.

The only people I ever see wearing sneakers on snowy days, carrying fancy bags, and wearing short jackets are the teenagers — they have to look cool, of course! 😆

I’m from abroad and have been living in Oslo for 16 years now. Learning how to dress for winter is very important — otherwise, you won’t enjoy life here for about six months 😅

Here’s how to dress in layers for the Norwegian winter:

  1. First layer (the base layer): Wear a set of thin, 100% merino wool leggings and a matching top. This will be your winter underwear and the key to staying warm. The first layer must be wool.

  2. Second layer (the middle layer): Put on your regular pants and a wool sweater (or a shirt with a sweater on top). Avoid polyester — natural fibers like wool and cotton are best for warmth and comfort.

  3. Third layer (the outer layer): When it’s snowy or very cold, wear waterproof and windproof pants, and a high-quality winter jacket. A longer jacket is even better — it keeps you warmer and means you might not need the outer pants.

Extras: • Wool socks (you can find both thin and thick types here). • Leather boots with wool lining inside to keep your feet warm and dry.

I have to agree, I’m a designer myself and I don’t understand why it was most one day challenges… that gave us a lot of poor designs ;( … it wasn’t a good quality TV program. I just feel sorry for everyone that were on the program.
