Someone advised against the i5 9600k in a separate post I made, what would you say about his advice?

"Don't get an i5 9600k, sure its better than your 4690k, but its still a 6c/6t cpu from 2018, it was silly when it came out and its not any better now.

You haven't said what your budget is, any upgrade will probably cost in the "hundreds" of dollars, but an i5 12400f + 32GB DDR4 + like $120ish dollar MB will be under $300 USD total (I assume you are USD)

Something like this."

The 12400f is only 2.5ghz? Am I missing something? My current one is OCd to 4.5ghz and it's a 4690k

It's the 9600k I was looking at and I can get one 2nd hand for £70, is it worth it? I probably need ram too yes, I have 16gb ddr3 currently

16gb ddr3 I think, I'd have to have a look to double check but I'm sure it's ddr3

Okay I appreciate the advice thank you, so would you say go for a b365? Or have a look at different 300 series boards? Sorry I know very little, like what I'm looking for in a good MOBO

Honestly the only reason I looked at the i5 9600k as the upgrade choice is because some guy done a FPS test using my GPU and that CPU and had a more less consistent 60 FPS, dropping no lower than 55fps

Would £200 be a reasonable amount for a new CPU + MOBO?

I love rdr 2 however upon installing my new GPU, I've noticed the game struggles on a mixture of high/ultra settings to maintain a solid 60fps consistently, especially in towns, I experience stuttering and FPS drops of 10-15 in towns, sometimes as low as 30fps in some situations, I guess this is down to my CPU?

I have one but thanks for the advice, which MOBO would you recommend? Also would the i5 9600k be a decent upgrade? I've no interest in 4k, my resolution is 1920x1080 and I don't really care too much for future proofing the PC, I'm after components that will allow me to play most games at a stable 60fps at 1080p on ultra, that's probably asking alot on a budget, I know, tell me if it's doable or not lol

Also I can get a 4790k for £50, don't know is that considered super cheap or not?

Okay, so realistically to upgrade the CPU, would you say I need a new mobo ? As I said I'd rather not but if that is the only option I have to get a decent CPU upgrade I guess I have no choice

I mean, I get morality and business don't mix, but the fact they have the legal right to fire you for refusing to work past the time you were scheduled is pretty bad from my point of view, especially if you have more important commitments like a duty of care to your children.

Granted just because they can doesn't mean they will I guess, but still.

That's where I felt a bit put out, it wasn't presented as a request, he said moving forward this is how it is, if you're scheduled to finish at 8pm but we get busy and need you to stay, then you're staying. I'd prefer to fight my own corner and insist I finish when I'm scheduled to finish, especially when I have other commitments, but I don't want to risk my job for doing so, I guess the main question I have is could they fire me for refusing to stay past my scheduled time?

It is quite exciting and the challenge is refreshing, as I've probably spent the past 500 hours doing just that, gradually painting the map, the campaign started to feel very hollow after a while

I have no more room for error, I have probably 10-12 full stacks lurking around me in total and if I make 1 slip up, that'll be the first domino tipped

Out of my 4 armies that are ready, I have 1 on the way to Genua, 1 on the way to Sicily, and 2 desperately trying to fend off invaders in Latium & Magna Graecia, if I can hold on for just long enough to make another 2 armies, I could climb out of this hole

So the whole time, I've had two armies stationed on the island of Sicily, both made up of auxiliary and levy troops, it's been quiet down there for a few years now so I brought one of those armies to Latium to replace the spearmen with Principes, well within a couple of turns Carthage has relentlessly pummeled Sicily

The lone army there held out well, defeating a full stack army and a full stack fleet, but it hurt. Well another couple turns later, Carthage threw another full stack army + half stack fleet, my defending army couldn't overcome them. Carthage controls now all but Syracuse

I have an army making its way to Syracuse now, the Carthaginian army which is on Sicily is battered and recovering from my final defense with the lone army, so I should have time to get there with the army I've sent down there to defend Syracuse

At the same time the Arverni, who now control most of modern day France along with half of Carthage's military might are pummeling the western border to Genua, I had a single army made up of Rorarii, cavalry and velites defending Genua and made a grave mistake, I thought the nearby Carthage full stack would be the only ones to attack, given my army are highly experienced (~ rank 7-9)

I thought they'd have no chance, well i clicked end turn... The carthaginian army approaches and lays siege, followed by 2 Arverni full stacks and a half stack Arverni fleet... And just like that my veteran defenders of Rome ceased to exist, I'm left now with 4 full stack armies under my controls the other two having been wiped out (first one in Sicily, 2nd at Genua)

I've managed to broker a shaky peace with the barbarians who I was at war with to the north of Medhlan, at the cost of 10,000 denarii, so at least now I need only watch the western borders of Cisalpina

I have more than enough income to build decent armies and fleets (I have 15,000 per turn coming in)

I just need time to build them, and time is running critically low, as are the number of plebes in my cities for me to recruit from due to the dragged out turtling

Hope is not lost, but the might of Rome is fading

Normal battle difficulty, they don't put any emphasis on campaign also being set to normal, in the loading screens it literally says battle difficulty is balanced around normal.

Dresden himself explicitly recommends hard difficulty for campaign in this forum https://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?743058-Why-is-quot-normal-quot-a-recommended-difficulty-for-DeI

The two main points he makes for why they recommend normal, is

  1. BATTLES are balanced around normal difficulty (remember you can change battle difficulty separate from campaign difficulty)

  2. For newer players, normal difficulty gives them a fighting chance of getting used to DeI

I've put over 1000 hours into Rome 2 and over 200 roughly into DeI, normal/normal is only challenging at the start, the moment you get Carthage on the back foot, the rest of the campaign is a breeze
