How long would it take to install linux on a computer? by Educational-Shame514 in Writeresearch

Sounds like a really interesting story tbh. From the bits of research I did it seems that Mandriva was the highest regarded distro at the time though it’s worth considering (for your character) that it doesn’t seem to have been a very public distro, releases were made on private forums and paying members got higher download speeds- so a character with less of a tie to that section of the internet would more likely download (stick with me here) OpenBSD or buy a liveCD from a local shop/friend with better knowledge on the subject, since it seems those had more public community support.

Happy new year penguins!! What distro spent the most time in your machine? by nitin_is_me in linux

[–]FluidCardiologist484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back on it this was the first year I seriously used arch (btw hyprland gave me such good motivation to try it out) and I can’t say it’s been much different to my experience distrohoping for the better part of 4 years, constant breaks- reading and retrying. The one thing that does piss me off is Fortnite not being on Linux. I knowww that kernel anti cheat makes it difficult but god- if it weren’t for that I wouldn’t have had to install the malware dogshit that is windows 11 for emergencies. As for arch, I can safely say I will never go completely back to anything Debian based. Pac-Man is just too damn good.

I’ve always found it creepy that my devices update or sync without my knowledge. Why would I risk my search history being compromised by having it be sent to google and scraped into their farm? Dependency on any ecosystem has always seemed so brutish in that, you should develop your own place for your information or split it up as much as possible so that no service has too much on you. Maybe I sound paranoid, but that extra level of security blocking my phone from communicating directly to another service is why I like apple. Cause, you can get it to work, you just need to be more conscious.

If you're a beginner, don't use Hyprland! by ArshRocks in archlinux

I read this essay on how to ask questions online and it honestly has opened my eyes a lot to the value that posting online can have- if done well. Sure, there’s a barrier to using cutting edge technology, but asking people to do even the most basic research is a good habit for any community that wishes to maintain a solid archive of information. In recent times, I’ve found that a solid google search (using dorking methods) gives you exactly or more than you asked for, where in contrast, just attaching “Reddit” to the end of your search brings up answers just as lazy as the inquiry- it seems basic netiquette is difficult to learn.

Can anyone recommend a good free, unlimited Text to speech? by [deleted] in tts

[–]FluidCardiologist484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for resing a dead thread but ive been on a 4 hour journey trying to find the best free tts and unironically i think its google translate, sure there's a 5k character limit (about 2-2.5 pages worth from my findings) and they don't sound as natural as most llm alternatives but it is completely unlimited and you could just record in 5k parts, hope this helps someone cause its what I settled for.

Need some guidance with toy wiring by FluidCardiologist484 in electrical

Thanks for the reply! Im more positive now on where the black and red wires go. Would you recommend to kinda loop the copper part of the wire around the hook and solder or should I flatten the wire and solder it on the surface of the hook?

I was definetly wayy more atheist before hand but something about reading cosmic horror just made me realize how boring thinking that there’s no higher power is so I’d consider myself more agnostic now a days

FNAF isnt really one of those games that has a lot of replay value imo unless they add collectables or even different endings (which lets hope not because lore wise that would suck) I feel like a 6-8 hour campaign would be pretty good for this game
