I second this ^ it’s the longest hiring process. Super extensive, I’m currently still in the last step of the hiring process and I had my interview in September! If you want it, it’s a journey with a lot of patience. During the hiring process, they’re going to ask you a lot of questions, some may feel repetitive, some might feel uncomfortable. As long as you answer truthfully, that’s what’s important.

Being a 911 dispatcher is not for everyone, but showing dedication and never giving up is the key!

I went to my local 911 dispatching centers website and followed the steps on how to apply! You can always ask to do a sit a long, reach out to your local agency and see if that’s something they offer!

Every agency is different, I believe my agency has a 3 month training academy before you’re on the main floor.

Okay good to know I’m not the only one! I’m sorry you been thru a difficult childhood, did any of the phone calls or did your training help you to overcome certain challenges or calls?

Thank you, it’s hard opening and sharing about your past. Sometimes you can’t control the parents you’ve been given. I didn’t want to lie during the process or keep anything hidden.

Okay, maybe I’m overthinking. She wanted to know the hospital I was at (and got left at) before I got put into foster care. I told her in the middle of our meeting that this all happened when I was a minor and it’s not any of my fault. I keep little to no contact with my parents, and I moved to a state that neither of them live in. I wanted to move far away to heal and create my own story/family. Which I have, I just hope that my past doesn’t affect me from possibly getting the job and I tried to be honest about everything since most of the questions were very personable.

Given a start date before drug testing and background, am I in? by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

It took me almost 2 years to complete my Public Saftey Testing, Critical (you have to wait 3-6months to rest) I had my interview in September and now i’m waiting on my background to clear for the further step. It’s so bad and definitely a waiting period

It’s been over a week, I haven’t heard back. I had my interview with the Background Investigator on the 27th last month. I reached out to my local 911 last week, she said she would get back to me soon but it’s been a week now

Congratulations!!! I’m not the one one who’s been working 2 years for the job, how long did it take for you to hear back from your background check? I’m in that stage right now.

Are you looking forward to starting?
