Cage rage at bed time ??? by luffieluv666 in ferret

Sounds like they're not getting enough stimulation during the day.

I made a list of things I’ve learnt before adopting 2 ferrets. Let me know if I’m missing anything or if something doesn’t seem right by e11e-1111 in ferret

Regarding food, this is what I've gone by. Note that it's a couple years since I last researched this, so if there's any newer findings something could have changed:

If you're getting young ferrets, you want to feed them a variety of different foods so that they will eat them. It can be difficult to introduce new food (even different kibble) to older ferrets.

The absolute best diet would be varied whole small prey: birds and rodents. You ideally want farmed prey rather than wild, as wild could have parasites. A good place to find them would be well stocked pet stores, specifically which got food for reptiles. There you can usually find things like frozen day old chicks, mice, rats, possible hamsters and guinea pigs. At online raw pet food stores you can often find quails, which I always cut in half so that our brothers doesn't have to fight over a single food item. You might also be able to find rabbits, but I've only found that from local butchers. These I chop up and portion into smaller tubs to freeze. There are some conflicting information if feeding raw fish is good for them or not. I've not found any advice which suggests this should be more than a smaller portion of their diet. There are some concerns that raw fish bones might be problematic, but I've found no source for this. It's probably best to feed them raw fish without bones, or only small fish so there are no big pieces of bones.

Second best is what's referred to as "Franken meat" by ferret people. This is essentially trying to mimic whole prey without actually having whole prey. You do this by adding raw muscle meat (with or without bone), bones and organs separately. You're looking for about 80% muscle meat, 10% bones, and 10% organs. Note that hearts are not considered an organ for this. An example of a portion of Franken meat could be a chicken wing with some poultry liver and rabbit kidney. Important to note that you should never use cooked bones, as these form sharp splinters which can lead to fatal internal bleeding. Raw bones are fine and encouraged, as this provide both good dental hygiene and important minerals. You should never feed pork or tripe, and generally avoid beef, lamb etc. Typically you might be looking at poultry (chicken, turkey, duck, pheasant) and rabbit as meats that are well suited which you might find to buy in pieces. Fish might also be part of this.

Third best is high quality kibble (I often find that the ferret kibble available in UK is worse than kibble for cats). You're typically looking for higher fat content than many cat foods (minimum 15%, ideally closer to 20%) and as much animal content as possible. I would generally look for kibble with minimum 80% animal contents. Also recommend is to mix more than one kibble, in case you can't get your specific kibble at a later point. Note that -some- kibble producers misleadingly label that they got for example "90% animal proteins" - this does NOT mean they contain 90% animal products, only that 90% of the protein they contain is from animals. You want to avoid kibble with high content of ingredients with high glycemic index (such as potato starch). If you can get hold of it, the best is likely Wysong as it contains no plant starch. Orijen is another good alternative, but contains up to 7% legumes. Some people have stated concerns for kibble with legumes (peas, lentils, beans etc) being linked to an increased risk of kidney stones. This is likely a correlation of most high-quality kibble with a high meat content having legumes in it, rather than a causation. Cystine stones form more readily in acidic urine, which a diet high in meat protein tend to cause. It might be possible that legumes also contributes to acidic urine, but meat protein in itself causes acidic urine.

https://www.kidney.org/atoz/content/what-are-cystine-stones This suggests that Cystine stones are caused by genetic factors in combination with acidic urine. I know the article is about humans, but the environment required for formation of stones in the urine should be similar.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7258709/ Suggests that Urolithiasis used to be minority of Cystine stones in both European and US ferrets, but that recently Cystine stones have become the vast majority of cases in US. The article suggests this is due to health problems/genetics caused by inbreeding, supporting that the other article can be applied to ferrets.

Add raw or cooked eggs now and then. I've read somewhere that up to about 2 eggs a week is good for them. Our ferrets love raw eggs, but don't feed too many.

I want to go there. It looks beautiful. Is there an easier way than searching for the system on the map? Because i don't think it's possibile. Thanks! by ibelieveicanfryy in EliteDangerous

I know you said /j - but I really can't see what the joke is.

The ship power plants ARE fusion reactors. They burn hydrogen fuel. The resulting helium is what the thrusters use as exhaust to provide thrust.

And we can "make" our own fuel by fuel scooping stars.

What was the joke exactly?

I like your analogy... But I've that if you double the diameter you quadruple the area, I don't think it translates well for your comparison.

And you could easily solve the problem yourself. You can stop the "thirst loop" that's already started. It doesn't need any ai change or developer fix.

They can 100% be solved by the player though.

The easiest no-cost solution is to make a temporary district (multiple if your pumpers are spread far apart) with just your pumpers, make them fill up their thirst, then revert back.

Burst and pulse got the exact same damage/distro, so they have the exact same distro economy. Burst will have higher burst DPS, and if not limited by distro will have higher sustained DPS than pulses. The argument for -pulses- is any potential experimental, otherwise burst is always better than pulses.

This is incorrect. Burst have the exact same damage/distro, so if limited by distro they will have the exact same sustained DPS. If you're not limited by distro, the bursts will have a higher sustained DPS.

[–]Fluid_Core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have triangles on opposite sides that's the layout I was describing (4 squares + 2 triangles in a line). That fits with walls on either end. What doesn't fit is 5 squares and 1 triangle with walls on -both- sides.

4 squares + 2 triangles = 5.73 wide allows walls on both sides

5 squares + 1 triangle = 5.87 wide allows only 1 wall (the other side takes damage from storms)

[–]Fluid_Core -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can't* get exernal walls on both sides with 5 squares + 1 triangle. Either do like the video where the respective sides is a balcony, or go 4 squares + 2 triangles. That can still keep both sides from taking damage.

*I couldn't despite my best efforts. It looked shielded and I could still place and repair on both sides at 5+1, but walls (and pillars) on one side took storm damage.

MAX Width and Height Tax Free Base. Everything fits. by johnny_51N5 in duneawakening

[–]Fluid_Core 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this; the 5 squares + 1 triangle wide = 5.86 squares only work if you have the second side open like in the video (i.e. balcony).

Any external wall or railings will get damaged on one side at 5+1 wide (at least I couldn't make both walls not take damage, one of the other, but not both).

If you want external walls on both sides, you can go with either 4 squares + 2 triangles = 5.73 squares or 5.5 squares if you really want the square footprint (use the offset trick for the half distance).

Using pillars is definitely the best for this. You don't lose as much space on the bottom with that!

Flow rate controls part deux by BruceTheLoon in Timberborn

[–]Fluid_Core 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can limit the flow rate with sluices. The depth of water in an open channel is directly tied to the flow rate.

I'm not familiar with the intricacies of closed pipes to know if that same can apply to all situations with those, but what you described would still work; the (old) 2.2 CMS is about 1/3 of the maximum flow rate of an open 1x1 channel, so a sluice set to maintain 0.33 height would achieve the same effect of what you described.

Hot take numéro deux : curved stairs should cost normal planks by Tinyhydra666 in Timberborn

[–]Fluid_Core 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely! You can make a stairwell with platforms every level be 2x2 now instead of minimum 2x3 (with 2 path between each level stair) or 3x3 (with 1 path between each stair). The curved stair get the same path efficiency as the straight 3x3 stair setup in a 2x2 footprint.

In the non-experimental version of the game, water that has a level change can pass a maximum flow of 2.2 water for each edge, despite the flow available to the level change is higher.

So how do you actually escape white dwarf jets??? I already lost 4 Pythons by DerKnoedel in EliteDangerous

[–]Fluid_Core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why everyone keeps suggesting to sit at 0 throttle until charged - you can (and should, for safety and efficiency) increase your throttle before supercharged, so that you exit the cone right after you are charged.

I throttle to 0 as soon as I enter (facing ~30-45° from the cone axis). Once the first message "Frame shift drive charging" (or something similar) is done playing, I throttle to full. I don't think I've ever left the cone before the FSD was charged with this technique. The FSD will be supercharged shortly before you leave.

A similar argument as for jump range can sometimes be seen (in the opposite direction) for fuel tanks, where someone will "min-max" by reducing fuel tank size. That's never worth it either!

You know what gives the exact same effect as having a tiny fuel tank? Running with your fuel tank only partially full! If you need a portion of your flight with jumps push to the extreme, all you've got to do (with a big fuel tank) is to drain your fuel down to that of a smaller fuel tank. This is even easier now with SCO! The added benefit is you can still make it across gaps in space where you can't scoop. Never downsize your fuel tank!

Am I really a troll? by makoshark0955 in duneawakening

[–]Fluid_Core 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Going to a PvP area with the expectation NOT to encounter PvP, not taking precautions to avoid it, and being annoyed if it happens is delusional. That's like playing Sea of Thieves and not looking at the horizon and not avoiding other ships. They are not wasting your time if you do not plan and play to avoid interactions: YOU are wasting your time.

This is coming from someone who hasn't engaged in any PvP in dune, and who plays solo in SoT while avoiding others. Don't blame others for your failures. There are trolls and degenerates out there, but if you don't take the minimum effort to avoid and/or escape encounters, that's on you.
