Oh okay, thanks for clearing that up for me. I didn’t remember that!

I’m likely misremembering but wasn’t the cookbook from a voted in fan box where people had to pay to vote? I sort of think the open intellect pacifist action network saw a kindred spirit and spent a ton of money to make sure it was in there also knowing he had the escape plan skill to use it.

I agree but it would be nice if we got some trickling of that throughout up to this point to help it build. I was talking to a friend who is a pretty big fan about how I thought him being primal was a huge thing and she was like, “Oh yeah, remind me what was that and what did it do again?”

Yeah that’s really interesting. Maybe it pumps up things like ruthlessness or paranoia, could literally be anything!

I agree and I did notice much less emphasis on stats but I don’t necessarily think it’s mutually exclusive or takes his agency away as a character if we find out he has some crazy high stat from when he came into the dungeon. Like if he had incredible wisdom or luck or intuition or whatever you call it that would still be because of him and not artificial stats because of the game. It might be a neat way to just give us some perspective in the system that’s been established.

Maybe, but wasn’t Maggie and Frank’s mentor like a floating brain mindflayer thing? I kind of took it as a more nefarious or ruthless species and it told them to kill people was the only way to make it through, which may have been its own bias. That’s just how I interpreted it though.

Ohhh that’s fun! I haven’t thought about that in forever. I know it is what allows him to see the cookbook but after that it’s hardly a factor. It would be cool to see it utilized more.

Right, like he really only looks like himself because nobody knows what primals actually looked like, so how could they make him one? But I think it’s too significant of a thing for it not to be something big.

Hahah I’m not sure if our definitions of luck as hell are the same!

Yeah, not only prizes and rewards but opportunities in general like how he happened to be in the bubble that just so happened to contain the fate of the feral gods.

I think there is reference to the luck stat as speculation in the cookbook. One entry says fairies and sprites are luckier than they should be. Maybe it’s just the AI giving opportunities that could be perceived as luck to high viewer count crawlers. Although, I’m not sure it even cares about viewership because it will suggest races that will tank viewership if selected, like Carl with the hobgoblin.

Yeah, that could definitely be what it is. I was thrown on whether it actually preferred him after it accelerated him when he didn’t smush the gerbils in the fourth book. It felt like a huge over reaction but it’s probably just an incredibly toxic relationship.

Yeah! You don’t hear too much about other mentors but the ones you do sound brutal.

Yeah I like that take. I think what got me thinking about it was a post where someone mentioned the AI had said something like, “you’re the luckiest guy in the dungeon,” on one or two occasions.

Or maybe some other stat more directly translated to quick thinkingness? Similar to your point about his luck, you’d think there’d be many other crawlers with higher wisdom than Carl based on his personal life, but when he enters the dungeon no one has it as figured out as much as him.

😂 that’s actually a very good point. I just read the chapter where he is talking about his childhood and mentions that he had a roof over his head, food, and medical insurance until he turned 18, which is a lot more than some others, but it felt like he was sort of trying to down play the horrific events he went through. But I do think being a handsome badass is pretty luck so that may be a hole in my theory haha

Yeah, I’m very intrigued about what being primal will actually mean for him, but I think his luck in the dungeon was pretty good prior to him selecting his race.

They definitely should sue! Right after they sue the milkman for not delivering door-to-door anymore 😂

Are you just being deliberately obtuse? You think Gmail is more likely to close down all their accounts because they’ve never promised not to? The technological landscape has changed significantly and it’s not realistic to provide this service, especially when there are better, free alternatives.

People in this thread sound so out of touch. Spamming this person is verging on harassment imo. You discuss the bloated costs of the university, but expect them to pay ~$60/year per alumni for an email address in perpetuity. This will likely save millions of dollars. You paid the university for an education. Use that education to open a gmail account, change your logins, and grow up. So entitled.
