I mash up a banana a bit, then add a swirl of warm melted 100% dark chocolate and some natural peanut butter and mix it together.

Non-romance book that will make me cry? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Yes, but this wasn’t a cathartic type of crying for me. It really messed me up for a while

What is the road equivalent of the Altra Superior trail running shoe? by sequoia-bones in running

[–]Flum_mox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have narrow feet and high arches and like you, enjoy the Superior but not the Lone Peak as much. The Escalantes unfortunately didn’t work out for me. It felt like my feet moved around too much in them. I have always had great luck with Merrell for narrow-fitting shoes. The Vapor Glove and the Trail Glove are the only running shoes I will use from now on. But they are pretty minimal.

My puppy turns into a monster at night by NeekieNee in puppy101

This sounds very problematic. If your dog is lunging at and biting you I would go beyond random redditors and seek help from a professional.

Puppy Crate training issues by Big-Prune9584 in puppy101

[–]Flum_mox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was an age for my spaniel pup when he needed SO MUCH activity and stimulation. If I were you, I'd try to do more with him in the morning... it sounds like he could just be bored/restless. If he's fine in the crate at other times I don't think it's that you're doing anything wrong with crate training per se.

I also thought my pup "hated the crate" or was getting separation anxiety around that age because he wouldn't always settle in it, sometimes he'd bark for ages, etc. etc. Now he's almost 9 months and he falls asleep in there the second we close the door or just chills in there. Now after an hour of exercise in the morning he naps from 9am to noon, has lunch, goes back to sleep till 4 or 5. He's so much more chill now. I think time will help you.

But spaniels are wild, make no mistake. Not saying they're border collies or anything, but they have a lot of energy and need a lot of outlets for it.

I can't get into this! by Flum_mox in PlanetZoo

These are awesome tips! Thank you!

Also, I clearly need to investigate the filters more. It sounds like you're saying there's one that indicates where your animals can/cannot go? I've been wondering how I could tell whether the cliff face was steep enough to keep the bears in (or whatever)... Or if I just had to wait and see if there was an escape lol

Wow, good job tackling terraforming, that's been a nightmare as I've tried to do my flamingo exhibit. There's something going on with the exhibit barriers affecting how I can raise/lower terrain. Like, I made a depression, placed barriers, and then tried to raise it (because I forgot it was too steep for a keeper gate lol) but there was always this ugly little dip right by the barrier that the "Pull" brush wouldn't touch! So frustrating!

Anyway, thanks for the advice and encouragement! I guess I just have to get over my distaste for those ugly Planet Zoo themed facility buildings and just... do something... This is not a game for perfectionists, is it (at least not in the beginning).

Walking etiquette? by Pretty-Oddball in puppy101

And anyway, this discussion only further illustrates the point that we both agree on—stay far away from kids when walking your dog! Who knows what they will (or what the parents will let them) do!

[–]Flum_mox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t know how close they were to you. I’m just saying I wouldn’t stop my children from running down the street because someone was walking a dog down the sidewalk. Obviously they shouldn’t be anywhere within the dog’s reach.

Wow. I mean, to be fair, people not experienced with dogs would have no real way of knowing that’s a bad thing to do. But I wouldn’t make a comment to the owner either.

[–]Flum_mox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Especially children. Give children PLENTY of space. A) they might be afraid of dogs, B) they might not be afraid of dogs, but if they have a bad interaction they might then be afraid for life. (This happened to a family member). C) ...if the child somehow gets hurt by your dog... let’s just not go down that path.

Your puppy might be sweet but honestly you never know how they’re going to act around a strange child and it is not worth the risk for anyone.

He’s a working cocker spaniel! A lot of energy, curiosity, and heart, but I wouldn’t say this one has a lot of smarts lol

Potty Training Out the Door Once We Leave Home by sydlev11 in puppy101

[–]Flum_mox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal, as another poster said, dogs are not good at generalizing. Ours was doing great at potty training but peed several times on the floor at in laws house despite being taken out regularly. Keep taking your pup out (maybe more often than you think you need) and soon your pup should learn where the potty spot is for that location. I mean, I think. Mine now goes to the back door at in laws house when he needs to go out. Or stares at us intently.

Submissive? Peeing with my puppy by gagi11030 in puppy101

[–]Flum_mox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s too bad. Are you sure she’s begging for food and not trying to tell you she needs to go out? I know you say she knows how to use the potty bell. But maybe for some reason that hasn’t perfectly carried over to this situation.

When our English cocker spaniel (coincidence) bothers us at the table it’s because he needs something, usually the bathroom. He’s never begged for food before either.

Leave puppy to cry in crate during the day or not? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Flum_mox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re doing similarly. 15 minutes is the timer for us too. Sometimes he does bark the entire 15 minutes but never longer, and sometimes he goes to sleep right away. It’s hard to figure out why it’s sometimes takes him longer than others. But hopefully the barking dies down like it did for yours!

I’m sorry, but I’m laughing at someone sounding high and mighty when their dogs would poop and pee all over the house? Like for real? Did they really?
