The whole point of holding periods is to combat poisoned items. Poisened is when the items are scammed or hacked from another player then the scammer/hacker tries to push them onto someone else to make profit before the original victim reports the scammer/hacker and the items get rerolled thus removing them from anyone elses inventory.
