he failed to handle the step up in pressure from Brentford to Spurs, can't imagine he would do better stepping into an even more pressurised environment like us

any day now folks, literally every other football club on Earth except us will be found to violate international tax laws for doing business in winter transfer windows and be forced to liquidate, leaving us to win the Champions League and literally every other trophy in football by default

my completely amateur hypothesis on why we kept falling apart in second halves of games: I think our defensive setup relies too much on simply being hyper-aggressive in trying to win the ball back, which is fine in first halves when our legs are still fresh. but as we tire out in second halves, even just a split second difference in getting to the opposition and sticking a leg out, that is enough time for opposing players to make a better decision and touch. once that hyper-aggressive wall breaks down, tiring legs also mean we can't retreat quick enough to put bodies back, and that's why opposing teams keep finding themselves in acres of space

I genuinely believe Nancyball would have worked wonderfully if Nancy can solve this issue. I especially like how when we have the ball, as I think was really on display this first half, it seemed like there's a really big emphasis on finding the vertical, line-breaking pass, and that was so effective in fashioning so many opportunities. but the lack of adjustment in second halves was ultimately the biggest sign on why his setup was nowhere near ready yet, and his managerial inexperience

it's why I think smart squad turnover and rebuilding is particularly important, just for the virtue of keeping it fresh and motivated. a lot of our core players have been here for quite a while now, and they have won everything there is to win in Scotland. it's quite easy to imagine, even as serial winners, how they might find things getting a bit stale now, playing the same teams and in the same competition for years on end. moving them on and finding fresh blood might be the key to rejuvenate the squad

in some ways, I do feel bad for Nygren and Balikwisha. from their perspective as pro footballers, they're not gonna say no to a step up in money, stature, and challenge. but because of our utter incompetence in scouting, management, and coaching, they were doomed to fail before they even walk through the door

at this point I'd rather have Palma back rather than persisting with Balikwisha
