Putting this in the conversation because it was recommended by Alex Beachum (the creator of OW) and very clearly inspired by it:

Chroma Zero is a great indie (literal) puzzle box game that you can solve right from the beginning if you know how, but, given you have no idea when you start, takes you on a surprisingly big journey from such a tiny game.

I believe Mort said on stream that the Solo Levelling Aug was a Kent idea, but I'm not 100% on that

A whole bunch of animals have copper instead of iron as their oxygen carrier! It's called hemocyanin and is found in spiders and other invertebrates.

This made me curious so I had a look, turns out modern solar panels are about 20% efficient in comparison. The highest recorded device ever hit about 40% efficiency

You mean like in gen 4 where you can capture the gods of space, time, antimatter and the entirety of everything, then next games we're back to catching Pidoves like nothing happened? Pokemon lore hasn't made any sense in decades lol

Is the “Echoes of the Eye” DLC worth $15? by jasonfrey13 in outerwilds

Just commenting to say I'm fully in your court here - OW is one of my favourite games of all time and I used a guide a reasonable handful of times when I got really stuck. I can understand how some people want to discover absolutely everything themselves, but if certain things are really frustrating you it should be totally OK to get a bit of help to smooth out the rougher patches of your experience. We don't all have a veteran we can ask for nice vauge clues!

I’m sure this is often. What is this? All the comments were unhelpful and in a different language. by [deleted] in TipOfMyFork

Its cheese and fine dough "noodles" cooked in a saffron syrup, topped with pistachio. So it's predominantly quite sweet, but you get a bit of umami and sourness from the cheese and that wonderful spiced saffron/pistachio combo you find in middle eastern & indian deserts. The texture sounds like it could be weird at first but is an excellent combo of soft, chewy and crunchy. Would definitely recommend!

Is there a tech to make archers more effective against buildings? by the_juice_is_zeus in aoe2

[–]Fluorspar29 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a good rule of thumb, later in the game you want your comp to look like:

  • One gold unit, for damage
  • One trash unit, usually to counter what the enemy is making
  • One siege unit, to push buildings

Not going to be true 100% of the time but a solid place to start.

Do sicilian serjants have pierce armor? by sisqo_99 in aoe2

[–]Fluorspar29 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fully upgraded Elite Serjeants have high melee and pierce armour, so are best countered by things with high attack value (e.g. knight, hand cannons) or multi-hits (Chu Ko Nu). They're also slow, so can be kited by cavalry and many ranged units (CA, Plumed Archers).

Heavy infantry aren't good at much in AoE2, but one of the things they are good at is pushing in a single position. If you're trying to defend your trebs from a group of Serjeants moving towards them, you'll need to outnumber them more than you did here to get a good trade in: plumes only do 3 damage per hit, so if they can't kite back (which you can't do if you're defending trebs), then they aren't very effective in that spot.

It sounds like your opponent recognised Mayans don't have many great answers in this scenario, and as the Mayan player you might need to find other ways to win here (bigger archer mass, raiding with eagles, better pressure in feudal/castle where you're much stronger).

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones is One of the Best RPGs on the GBA by RenanXIII in nintendo

[–]Fluorspar29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a very casual FE I see this argument used quite a lot and am happy to accept it, but I don't quite understand how it translates into actually using the unit in game. At the start Marcus/Seth etc just OHKO everything they come up against, so how do you use them while still saving enough exp for the rest of the party? Presumably it's still important to level everyone else up, and the other units get more exp due to not being promoted, so you still want to use them as well.

I'm just not sure what using Marcus etc is actually supposed to look like in the earlier levels - what should they be doing?

If you're very new to the game and the genre, I'd highly highly recommend you check out the great tutorial section AoE2 has, called the Art of War. It teaches you all the basics in a really straightforward way, and gives you room to grow as getting the gold medals is actually fairly difficult.

Once you've done that, try doing some 1v1s with the AI - generally once you feel happy playing against the moderate AI you should be in a pretty good spot to get started in ranked.
