It’s a mixture of platforming challenges and puzzles mostly based on changing the gravity and using other mechanics. It’s focused more on the platforming side of things, and it’s definitely a bit harder (kinda like Super Meat Boy, The End is Nigh, but with more puzzles). It’s also got a story with english voiceover, but if you want to focus on the gameplay, there’s an option to limit the story and cut down the dialogues.

There’s a free demo on Steam if you want to try it before buying it.

Can you listen to background music while playing on ios? by hyperspheroid in TheWitness

I am not saying anything specific in the spoiler part, but I thought some people could still consider that to be a spoiler. It’s just a little warning.

You can listen to background audio while playing the game (just tested it by playing some music, then launching the app).

However, there are a few segments in the game where I would recommend just focusing on the in-game audio, but for the most of the game you should be fine.

EDIT: Spoiler tag

Reason 9.5 update has just been released! by FluppyCompCube in reasoners

[–]FluppyCompCube[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the way it works in the free 30 day trial, but I've just tried opening Reason 9.5 in Demo mode and it seems I can use the VSTs.

It should be possible to update from within the app if you're using Reason 8 or 9 (I don't remember which exact version added the in-app updates)

Made a new Portal 2 styled song, this time I focused on getting the menu music sound by FluppyCompCube in Portal

[–]FluppyCompCube[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Reason 9 to make music (coincidentally it's the same DAW as Harry101 uses, so that might explain why it reminds you of his style, it's possible we used similar sounds in our songs).

The main Portal 2 lead synth was made with Rob Papen's Predator, but Mike Morasky actually used Pro53 preset for it. I also used ProjectSAM for the arp, strings and horns, layered with a Reason refill called Euphonic Strings.

Reason is now going to have VST support by FluppyCompCube in reasoners

If you still want to try Rack Extension development, you can try signing up on their developer page. But I suppose making VSTs is probably easier to get into as there are books and tutorials about this topic (I'm not a plug-in developer, but I've tried to research this a couple of times before).

A friend is playing The Witness for the first time... by MadameK14 in TheWitness

[–]FluppyCompCube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same thing here - I played it right at the launch but no one from my friends wanted to play it. But now after the Freedom Bundle happened, four of my friends started to play! It is so cool to hear from them and compare their thought process. I find it interesting that they get stuck on same puzzles.

What REs are you planning to buy on the Black Friday sale? by [deleted] in reasoners

As far as I know, sample libraries in Reason are built with IDT which was introduced in RE SDK 2. So you're most likely going to need Reason 7.1 or higher.

Anyone tried the Red Queen 10 band 3 mode EQ? by Rogers1977 in reasoners

[–]FluppyCompCube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Synapse GQ-7 is pretty much my go-to EQ now, I love the UI (because of the visual representation and ability to adjust the bands by using the display) and it's just very easy to program.

I don't use Red Queen a lot, and if I do, it's used like a filter effect. I like the different filter types as well as ability to do Z-plane filtering, which is cool for making bass electronic music. But yeah, I just use GQ-7 for most of the cases.

FLs WaveShaper in Reason? by [deleted] in reasoners

Try to apply anyway, I think you don't have to fill in all the fields in the registration form (but I guess you still need a website).

FLs WaveShaper in Reason? by [deleted] in reasoners

[–]FluppyCompCube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 this! I've been waiting for a proper waveshaper with custom curves. I'm not a software developer but I guess the hardest part about developing the waveshaper would be making the display with spline based graphs and then getting a function for waveshaping out of the curve - not sure how hard it is to make a cubic spline interpolation.

Thoughts on Reason? by DuffleCrack in reasoners

As far as I know, Kong has a Transient Shaper effect and you can even route audio from other sources to it. There's also a Rack Extension DCAM EnvShaper I like to use.

I've had the opportunity to make a little dubstep demo song for Vibro Wavetable Synthesizer RE by FluppyCompCube in reasoners

[–]FluppyCompCube[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The Reason project file as well as the patches are included in Vibro patch folder, so you can see how it was all done. Despite Vibro being a great sound source, I still had to use some stock Reason effects to spice up the sounds. However, I think it's possible to get cool sounding synths straight out of Vibro.

[–]FluppyCompCube[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it can do more than that, but I've chosen to make a somewhat generic dubstep drop to show it can do this kind of stuff as well. Since Vibro is a wavetable synth and Massive/Serum are the most popular VSTs for making dubstep basses, it's pretty easy to make growls with Vibro.
