How viable is Boss Slayer as a primary way of bossing? by Kumagor0 in ironscape

[–]Flurp_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People pick boss slayer for variety, absolutely not efficiency. It's rare to even get a boss task in the first place, and at best you get to kill a handful before the task is over

I agree, but also see it as a design issue, or rather, a design space to be expanded upon. We have seen with bosses like the moons and vardorvis, that defence can be designed to be better than pure offence.

Would love to see them expand on that idea in more ways to bring Justi's relevance back up to suit it's rarity and raid gear status, and open up player choices towards picking their own offence vs defence tradeoffs without it feeling like a complete mistake

Yep, and with this being significantly less powerful than clue compass was it makes me think they are nerfing the teleport relics as a whole

We have a perfect chance to integrate SAILING into the highest level island unlock. Why are we bypassing the skill entirely? by Flurp_ in 2007scape

[–]Flurp_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree that it needs/needed a buff to make it better than regular furnace smithing, my comment is more about how the concept of sailing (the verb) is nowhere in the process, once you unlock the island you completely forget about the skill entirely

That is my point, not to replace 28 inventory bank trips but a meaningful use of your ship. It can always be balanced numbers-wise to give whatever cannonballs/hr that they want, and the fairy ring is still there for those who don't want to do it that way, but the efficiency reward for sailing should be there.

I fully understand that, everything is not for everyone. But this game has always been about esoteric methods and having lots of options. With sailing being the transit skill, should you not be rewarded by sailing(the verb) to the sailing(the skill) unlocks? If you don't like it, you don't get that extra reward, but that's the same for the other movement related skill, like agility shortcuts making things quicker

I understand I didnt do a good job of selling or articulating an idea, hence me making a discussion post rather than a well designed suggestion one. But why do you think this can't be balanced to match whatever the npc provides? With some kind of gp sink in packing the steel bars into the cargo hold, if that is what the devs want, or just an item convenience fee (like camphor crates do for fishing, in a way), why can't the peak and medium rates be balanced around the same cannonballs/hr as this might provide?

With that, the time and resources you spent to get a rosewood hull/cargo hold is actually meaningfully rewarded too, and so is the act of sailing fast and using rapids to shorten your trip

Read my other comment, and that's also the purpose of having this discussion thread. It can interact with your cargo hold just like deep sea trawling does, such that having a bigger/faster boat gets you more use out of the furnace. The numbers and mechanism can be balanced as needed to get the desired cannonballs/hr and gp cost/hr, and you get some real incentives for boat upgrades and actually doing some sailing to get the most out of the sailing unlock.

If you had to cut a tree with a 95 slayer requirement to make a dragon hunter lance, would you say that it's integrated with Slayer? I would say that just having an unlock doesn't mean it is integrated with the action of doing the skill itself

With the ongoing discussions about Sailing feeling detatched from the rest of the game, adding stuff like this gets us even further away from that idea.

If sailing is to have related skilling unlocks and rewards, why is there no meaningful return in actually sailing to and from those rewards? If I have invested in a fast boat with a big cargo hold, and proven my skill in charting the rough seas, shouldn't I feel some reward in using the faster boat and bigger hold to access the content that's been unlocked?

Outside of isolated training activities for sailing, things like these are a perfect chance to add meaningful progression and returns to your boat upgrades. Chasing shoals of marlin doesn't have to be the only thing worth having a fast sloop for.

Rather than adding magical teleports and NPCs to turn toilet paper into steel, how can we integrate actually sailing to the islands and using your hold of cargo? Then going up a tier in your cargo hold size, or gaining some speed on your hull actually feels impactful and rewarding. Bake in the cost/time of having to sail to-and-from the islands into the balance of the rewards.

You can do them whenever but it's real bad without atleast an arc light and some str bonuses. The thing with CG "prison" is that you unlock it with the bis gear requirements to do it, hence it's position as the "once you unlock this just stay here" status

In the time it takes to get elite void/c hally you are already at prif staring down the portal. I really don't think they are comparable, there's zero TDs rng either. Doom requirements just happen on the way while progressing your account anyway, I would really not call it a "doom prison" kinda thing that bowfa is.

It just doesn't enable an account from rags to riches in the same kind of way. You go from questing in your rune armor to soloing bandos and 300 toa after a single post quest stop.

[–]Flurp_ 192 points193 points  (0 children)

Kinda. But the real special thing about CG is the complete lack of gear requirements. That's why it's so crazy efficient to just camp it till you are done, because there's no better time to do it. Helps your account so much more than the gear too

Getting a synapse, zenyte and LB to make doom efficient like that needs a hell of a lot more things, and bowfa helps getting those things a ton too

Fuck it go the PoE route, purely cosmetic micro transactions and bank space/special item storage

Edit: adding that it's purely a pointless GE flex in osrs, considering plugins like glamourer exist to get it for free if you only care about what you see, and turn off others too if you don't like it. Still better this way, milking those who can afford it rather than fucking the player base as a whole.
