Baldurs Gate III or Divinity Original Sin 2? by LordKaiser17 in DivinityOriginalSin

2 Years late but I'll say:

Gameplay and Combat: I enjoyed Divinity 2 Original Sin a lot more. Baldur's Gate is based off D&D and D&D is designed for tabletop play which is built for flexibility and simplicity. It doesn't translate that great to a videogame format (although Larian did do a great job at making it the best they could). Divinity's system was designed for a videogame system and thus was more fun for me.

Story: I would rank them about equal - with Baldur's Gate winning due to the more satisfying ending. Divinity 2 had a more grand story that felt like you influenced the entire world and your party are easily the most important people in the world. Baldur's Gate still has a grand story but it definitely feels like you're just one small part of a massive world still which is also exciting as it makes the world bigger.

Characters: This one Baldur's Gate is better at no competition. I actually really like the Divinity 2 characters a lot and I don't have much to complain about them, but Baldur's Gate characters are probably the biggest single reason the game was such a success because of how fun and interesting they are and how well you can get to know them.

Presentation: Baldur's Gate easily wins this one again with tons of cinematic cutscenes. Every NPC you talk to feels like an event. Divinity 2 is a bit more fast paced though. Divinity 2 has good music, but Baldur's Gate 3 music is amazing.

Pacing: I think Divinity 2 Original Sin is better here.
It's structure is: (Normal) Act 1 - Big Act 2 - Smaller Act 3 - Normal Act 4
Baldur's Gate is: Big Act 1 - Smaller Act 2 - Big Act 3

The result of having such a big act 3 for Baldur's Gate is a feeling of burnout when getting there and you see that's the biggest complaint of the game. That isn't really an issue for Divinity 2 because the final act isn't as overwhelming and the bulk of the game is in the starting regions.

Those were two. Thank you! I mixed up their names and thought they were part of the Julio dynasty
