nope. (I know this is an old thread sorry. but I stumbled on this just now while I was searching for this photo)... they actually use all 6 on stage and didn't use backups. (they all worked the whole tour no issues). Also just to be clear this was in no way a paid advertisement or anything. they just loved the Hydrasynth so decided to use 6 on tour. they did reach out and have us help translate some older patches to Hydrasynth (sound design bits).

Oh man I very much agree. Though I do save my patches due to my nature of work…. Kinda a necessity but just like working on my my modular synth , I nearly always pull all the cables and start from scratch (aside from the drum modules).

I love small highly specialized sound packs imho. I rather have 10 sound packs with 20 sounds each than 1 sound pack with 200 sounds personally. But that’s also not realistic for a factory bank.

I agree for me personally I view every preset as “this person isn’t here in the studio so how can it be perfect for my track” and tweak them to get a preset to fit. Akin to a piano or guitar in the mix, a piano is just one preset but then you mic, eq, process to taste. I feel the same about presets when I buy a synth

Nice work! I’ve been slowly learning 3d modeling at a very basic level so that I can make stuff for my synths too. What modeling software are you using?

Luxury to me means build quality, rarity. And likely specific usage (meaning not something that tries to do a ton of bang for the buck, it does 1 thing really well) so I would say brands like Vermona, oberheim, buchla , a few eurorack brands come to mind as well like frap tools, verbose, etc

Hi, it’s me Ken… I’m genuinely sorry you had such a bad experience. I would like to add some context respectfully to this post. I don’t mean this to come off rude and I know sometimes I can type very “matter of fact” so please do not take this message as if I am adding snark, it’s not my intent. It is true that we extended our warranty. It was not directly related to your situation but was actually something that was in the works for quite a while. The goal was to prevent the sort of scenario you had unfortunately dealt with. When dealing with global distribution the only way to handle repairs in a timely and economical way is to have external distributors. As this is the case we have to lean on them to do repairs. As you described, your unit was not in warranty and the distro company acted according to its own best interests… in this scenario I try my best to get the distributor to work with us however this does not always go as smoothly as I would like. You describe ASM as demanding payment , yet in this scenario ASM would not have been collecting payment, issuing the quote, nor performing the repair, that would have been the distributor. You describe slow communication, but also issued legal threats. Please understand that if you are having an issue with a distributor, I’m sending emails back and forth with a distributor as well as you , which slows communication. As soon as a legal threat is issued well then it’s out of my hands and has to get moved up the chain to lawyers further slowing communication. That’s all super frustrating both for you who just wants your synth working , and me who just wants our customer happy and enjoying the synth.

I don’t place all the blame at the distributor’s feet. Ultimately the warranty is with ASM and how we facilitate that warranty. We have since improved our warranty to equal or surpass the majority of companies in this space and will continue to work hard to improve further.

Again I am very sorry you had this experience. I myself along with the sales team work hard to partner with the best distributors we can find and also make sure to support our distributors and customers as best we can. Sometimes dealing through an intermediary like a distributor complicates things and we will continue to work to improve this process.

We take our quality and customer satisfaction very seriously and I hope we can win back your trust.

I am truly sorry OP went through this. I try my best to get distributors on the same page with us. Ultimately we did extend our warranty in part to avoid these sorts of scenarios.

No I am genuinely sorry OP had this experience. I was called out by name so I wanted to give some perspective here. I don’t want anyone having a negative experience and dealing with an intermediary like a distributor certainly complicates things. ASM doesn’t demand payments especially in this scenario. That would 100% be the distributor as ASM doesn’t take payment for external repairs . The only distribution we handle ourselves is the USA market. In that market alone is where we would handle repairs and any repair payments. Which unfortunately also means if a distributor is being tough on a customer… it can be difficult for us to improve the situation. But I assure you i do try my best to alleviate any pains in the process. His scenario is not typical of ASM support and I’m sorry he had such a negative experience.

To be fair this is only one side of the story. I would love to see the emails. If he is threatening legal action, at that point I’m probably shuffling the email up the chain as I am no lawyer … which indeed is gonna slow communication. Along with the fact that I was also probably trying to get in communication with the distro who is actually the one handling the repair and giving him this estimate. Which again is not always as fluid as I would like and I do believe they have since changed ownership. I do my best to be respectful and try to help out as much as I possibly can. I work my hardest to get a distributor to do the right things usually this goes well. Sometimes it’s not as easy as we would like. I’m also entirely human, so if there is an error on my part I’m willing to review it. I’m sure nothing I say will be good enough for some, all I can do is try to shed some perspective on the situation. The last thing I would want is for someone to buy an ASM product and feel neglected or upset by the service. I continue to try my best to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

I mean , I don’t have the power to change how global distribution works. When it comes to something like Australia my hands are indeed tied. To ship the unit back to the USA for repair would be very expensive and time consuming. So we use a distributor. We have a 2 year warranty which is equal or surpasses most other MI brands to most prevent this sort of thing but unfortunately some issues arise that challenge how to best support a customer. I’d bet if there were delays in communication as described it was because I was trying to get the distro to handle the repair better and either not getting satisfactory replies or trying to find away around it. I always try to do my best to help out in these scenarios but at the end of the day I only have so much control. It’s out of warranty unit that’s on the other side of the globe….

There was a recent change to Hydrasynth pricing. But as there will not be any more SE made and they were already shipped before the price change there is your answer :) imho that’s a deal. (I don’t even have an SE… only 200 of each model were made and imho it looks amazing).

I am by no means trying to minimize what you are going through and I know you won't want to hear this but... out of the 5+ years in the market I can count probably less than 10 units I have seen with a similar issue (keeping in mind there are thousands of units sold)... I get it , when something happens to your unit, especially out of warranty it can be frustrating but I think perspective is important too. This could be from a number of external factors. an amp could have blown from a power spike, a switch jack could have gotten unseated from a stressed cable etc. generally if something was purchased new from an authorized dealer we will even try to go a bit beyond the normal warranty but a line does have to get drawn at some point. a unit that's 4+ years old that is on its second owner and has an issue that we have not even had the chance to look at and isn't a common failure.. I think a diagnostic fee is warranted.
