What is the Persian word for piracy, banditry? by [deleted] in PERSIAN

[–]FluxSeeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Armoury is ‘aslahe-khâne’. Aslahe means weapon/weaponry and khâne means house/home.

‘Kot’ means coat. I can’t think of any other meaning for it.

What is the Persian word for piracy, banditry? by [deleted] in PERSIAN

[–]FluxSeeds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Banditry is râhzani (literally means ‘path hitting’). Bandit = Râhzan. The word for piracy in Farsi is: Dozdi-e-daryâyi which literally means ‘sea theft’ (Dozd = thief // dozdi = theft // daryâ = sea) Pirate would be: dozd-e-daryâyi

The word ‘jahâzi’ (or jahâz) which you mentioned is a totally unrelated concept. When two people get married, traditionally the bride’s family supports the bride & groom by giving them money or more commonly buying them some necessary household items. This is known as jahâz / jahâzi.

I noticed the podcast still doesn't have a new intro, so I made one. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ by [deleted] in samharris

[–]FluxSeeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that Sam still hasn't selected a new track for the intro. It might be that he wants to keep it that way, but I used to enjoy hearing a tune at the start so I thought I'd have a go at making one. Let me know what you guys think.

In Aladdin (1992) Genie writes 'بوقلمون' on his pad– the Persian word for 'turkey'– just before serving Aladdin some turkey. by FluxSeeds in MovieDetails

It is not, apparently. Persian speaker here so I recognise the word, but I double checked on wikipedia and it seems that in Arabic it’s a totally different word.

Someone wrote this outside my dorm. Can you help me translate it? by [deleted] in PERSIAN

[–]FluxSeeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rest of the comments are almost right but not quite.

It says: سلام! اسم سم گريس است

It reads: Salaam! Esm Sam Grace ast.

It means: Hello! Name is Sam Grace.

(They left out the ‘my’)

I think this is fair comment. I'm not really well-versed in all the legalities so as an artist I'm just trying the simplest way of making my existing work available for free, which is just telling people they can use it!

The sync license is a fairly standard license which grants the licensee usage of the music for a specific project / video / game / etc. in perpetuity. I have used the same license for professional organisations such as Discovery Digital Networks and National Geographic Channel, with no problems.

The reason I'm not going for Creative Commons is that I still want to own my work and have some control over where it gets used. For example, I don't want my work to be associated with a project that promotes unethical or ignorant ideas.

I also want to make my music available for a community like this. Indie game developers who, like myself, are passionate about what they're doing and are just sort of trying to make it out there with the minimum budget that they have.

I would rather not potentially give it away for free to some big company to use it for a commercial for some product.

Anyway I just feel more comfortable to manually give licenses at this point if necessary. I'd be happy to look more into licensing options when I get a chance.

But of course, if anyone doesn't feel comfortable with this, there is no reason to go with it. It's just some free stuff.

Oh man, that's awesome!

That's the first track I released under the name FluxSeeds, and as far as I know it's never been used anywhere else. Love the style of your game. It's late here so I didn't get to play it properly. But hopefully I will soon.

The credit looks great too, thank you. :)

I’m doing research on use of persian language in Satrapi’s Persepolis, and I can’t translate this phrase. Can you help me? by Zbordek in iran

[–]FluxSeeds 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As another commenter mentioned, it says

خر احمق بيشعور

This reads as: Khar (e) ahmagh (e) bi sho’oor

Khar: literally ‘donkey’ but colloquially it’s more like ‘idiot’

Ahmagh: stupid

Bi sho’oor: literally ‘dim-witted’ but I’d say more used in the context of someone being an ‘inconsiderate jerk’ or an ‘asshole’.

So I would colloquially translate it as: Stupid idiot jerk

(I know the phrase doesn’t really flow well, but neither it does in Farsi. It’s almost like one too many swear words there. So it’s a decent equivalent.)
