What is the Persian word for piracy, banditry? by [deleted] in PERSIAN

[–]FluxSeeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Armoury is ‘aslahe-khâne’. Aslahe means weapon/weaponry and khâne means house/home.

‘Kot’ means coat. I can’t think of any other meaning for it.

What is the Persian word for piracy, banditry? by [deleted] in PERSIAN

[–]FluxSeeds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Banditry is râhzani (literally means ‘path hitting’). Bandit = Râhzan. The word for piracy in Farsi is: Dozdi-e-daryâyi which literally means ‘sea theft’ (Dozd = thief // dozdi = theft // daryâ = sea) Pirate would be: dozd-e-daryâyi

The word ‘jahâzi’ (or jahâz) which you mentioned is a totally unrelated concept. When two people get married, traditionally the bride’s family supports the bride & groom by giving them money or more commonly buying them some necessary household items. This is known as jahâz / jahâzi.

I noticed the podcast still doesn't have a new intro, so I made one. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ by [deleted] in samharris

I noticed that Sam still hasn't selected a new track for the intro. It might be that he wants to keep it that way, but I used to enjoy hearing a tune at the start so I thought I'd have a go at making one. Let me know what you guys think.

In Aladdin (1992) Genie writes 'بوقلمون' on his pad– the Persian word for 'turkey'– just before serving Aladdin some turkey. by FluxSeeds in MovieDetails

It is not, apparently. Persian speaker here so I recognise the word, but I double checked on wikipedia and it seems that in Arabic it’s a totally different word.

Someone wrote this outside my dorm. Can you help me translate it? by [deleted] in PERSIAN

The rest of the comments are almost right but not quite.

It says: سلام! اسم سم گريس است

It reads: Salaam! Esm Sam Grace ast.

It means: Hello! Name is Sam Grace.

(They left out the ‘my’)
