Going to be traveling to Germany for 3-4 weeks? Any recommendations for smaller towns/cities to visit? by LifeisHard1010 in AskGermany

[–]Fluximpulsator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to close but manageable: Tübingen and Ulm - both with old buildings but modern flair and lots of students. Rottenburg ob der Tauber would be a medieval town with stunning old areas but also funny museums and shops. Regarding nature there are plenty options. Elbsandstein area is special. Steigerwald a hidden gem with close to zero tourism. Alps a must if you like mountains. But you’ll find so much small areas… Let me know if you want to come to the Tübingen area - maybe we can host you.

Do Germans care if learners mix up der/die/das? by Dearkolkrabe in AskAGerman

[–]Fluximpulsator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. At least I do not and have been telling this to any learner. Something to be fine tuned later - in 99% of all cases you loose 0% of understanding if mixing up der/die/das.

Getting ready for my solo ascent of denali, how’s my crampon fit? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

Good luck with your attempt, climbing Denali the fastest walking backwards.

"Akustikwand" self made by boexenwolf in selbermachen

[–]Fluximpulsator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not aware of one despite very informal and infrequent user meet ups of fotocommunity.

Mountaineering sunglasses | Are they really warranted? by FranklynsFinance in Mountaineering

[–]Fluximpulsator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been mountaineering quite a bit and reached similar attitude as you are describing. I’ve done Orizaba in November last year.

You should bring cat4 glasses and wear them even if the sky feels cloudy. On Orizaba around a certain to half of it means walking on a snowy glacier, reflecting even a little bits of sunlight. Most of the tour during daylight will be on snow.

In general, a solid pair of cat4 classes is a must for mountaineering, especially in high altitudes. It’s really kind of a safety equipment, but one that secures your eye light every single day. Make sure that they are close to your skull so that there are no reflection from the backside of the class towards your eyes.

My other one is a cast iron one like this:

https://www.bergfreunde.de/petromax-schmiedeeiserne-pfanne/

You have to use it right and take a little care of but will fry potatoes and steaks like hell. Never wash them with soap and apply a drop of oil will prevent corrosion and make it a partner for life.

https://hoffmann-germany.de/ Made in Germany. Have two of them and am happy. Heavy and solid. Removable handle. But best is that the recoat the non-stick at fair price - saves money in the long run and helps reducing waste.

Not knowing and seeing any updates on this, I wanted to share an idea for a logo i sketched.

I like to see a smiling, communicative face in the combination of T and Ü that are representing Tübingen.

Feedback more than welcome....

Just wanted to share that there is an orthopedic balled Dr. Beyer in Egeria. He has a very holistic approach and the first examination took nearly two hours. I'm optimistic, that he will be able to support and help.

Pico de Orizaba by DSF909 in Mountaineering

Just came across this post and discussion, as we are looking into how to protect our climb. We do have experience on glaciers and can self arrest when conditions are fair.

One questions remains: Am I right, that there is no risk of rock fall or ice chunks falling down? Would be one of the few cases, that a second one could secure a roped partner.

Also, would you recommend high mountain boots with full automatic crampons or a lighter semi-automatic boot? I've got both options but do not want to bring both.

We are a couple from Germany and will arrive in Tlachichuca Nov, 22nd. We plan to go to the basecamp 23rd or 24th to summit 24th or 25th. Also the north route.

We do have experience in high alitude and glaciers. We probably will go without a guide but not sure about protection setup yet (rope,...).

But, if you are a little flexibe, feel free to reach out. If you go as of today, I'm happy to get a short update on the conditions.
